Breast Implants - Know Misconceptions About It!

The Breast implants, be it the saline or the silicone implants comes as a blessing for people who have struggled for ages with a small breast. From lifting your self-confidence to enhancing the overall appearance, the benefits of breast implants are immense. However, there are some myths associated with the breast implants that should be busted for people to understand the procedure better.

Myth: The breast implants produce the same results in all individuals.
Fact: This myth is as dead as a dodo. A lot of factors are taken into consideration (such as the breast size, the type of the implants used, the skin condition, to name a few) before surgical breast implantation. The breast implants can never produce identical results in two individuals. You are unique and so will be the implantation.

Myth: Breast implants performed by an experienced surgeon will never cause any side-effects or complications.
Fact: There is no denying the fact that an experienced surgeon with a higher success rate will ensure better results. However, one cannot guarantee that there will be no complications at all. Minor side-effects such as swelling, bruising, inflammation, skin irritation or pain are inevitable. Depending on the physical health of the person, complications such as bleeding or infection may also be witnessed in some patients. Going under the skin and expecting no side-effects at all is only fooling yourself.

Myth: Silicone implants are highly dangerous and can trigger extreme health complications and discomfort.
Fact: There was a time when the silicone implants were indeed a little less safe when compared to the saline implants. However, with the advancement of science and technology, this fact no longer holds true. The silicone implants presently used are safe and durable (seldom there is a rupture or a severe tissue scar). There has also been extensive research that proves that the superior quality silicone implants used do not trigger diseases or health complications including cancer (though exceptions will be there).

Myth: Breast Implants does not interfere with breastfeeding.
Fact: Some lactating women having undergone breast implantation may experience discomfort and difficulty while breastfeeding the baby (especially when the breast implantation surgery is performed through the areola). In fact, lactating and nursing mothers are often advised to wait for a few years (or till the baby is into breastfeeding) before opting for the surgery.

Myth: The breast implants, be it silicone or saline, should be replaced in every ten years time.
Fact: Many people still give in to this myth. The condition of the implants alone can decide when it needs to be replaced. Thus, while some women may need a replacement in about eight years, others may continue with the same implant sans any complications for way more than ten years.

Myth: The breast implantation produces visible results immediately.
Fact: A breast augmentation cannot work miracles. On average, it takes at least eight-twelve weeks (may vary among individuals) for the results visible.

Breast Augmentation - What Should You Expect?

In today’s world, females have advance techniques available for shaping up their breasts. It is a part of their overall persona and beauty. Breast augmentation is one of the greatest plastic surgery operations that is done in hospitals across the globe.

Gone are the days, when you would sit back at home and blame nature for your saggy breasts. You have the gift of plastic surgery at your rescue. Breast augmentation can enhance the beauty of your breast and uplift its features. In this process, the implant is put under the pectoral muscle so that you can still breastfeed your infant if needed.

The process is executed with the help of a small 4 cm incision. The recovery process takes a week’s time. Breast augmentation can be carried out in a surgical centre or in any hospital’s outpatient facility. It doesn’t require a hospital stay in most cases. In some selected cases only, the procedure is done using local anaesthesia. In those cases, the patient stays awake. The breast region is made numb.

What to expect during the procedure?

The woman opting this must know what all are expected to happen during the procedure. The surgeon will insert the breast implant by making a single cut in one of the following three areas:

1. In the crease under the breast
2. Underarm (axillary)
3. Around the nipple (periareolar)

After the incision is done, the surgeon will try and separate the breast tissue from the patient’s muscles and connective tissue. This will lead to the creation of a pocket either behind or in front of the pectoral muscle. After this, the surgeon will put the implant into the newly-created pocket. It will be centred behind the nipple.

Saline implants are put in an empty form and then filled with sterile salt water. Silicone implants are, however, pre-filled with silicone gel. After the implant is over, the cut is stitched with sutures and the skin is bandaged with adhesive and tape. Breast augmentation is also carried out using body fat as it gives more natural feeling.

What to expect after the procedure?

For a few weeks, the patient might experience Soreness and swelling. It is also possible to develop bruises. Your scars will fade away with time. It is quite possible that the scars will not vanish permanently ever in your lifetime. You must wear a compression or sports bra at the time of healing. You might be required to take painkillers, as advised by the surgeon.

All You Must Know About Breast Implants!

One of the leading types of cosmetic surgery in the world is breast augmentation through implants. These implants are prosthetic inserts which are put into your breasts surgically to enhance the look, shape, feel, size, and balance in your body. Although these are primarily used for cosmetic purposes, they may also be used for reconstructive surgery after an accident or after mastectomy (breast removal surgery).

Types of breast implants -
There are primarily two types of breast implants: Silicone and saline. The sacs that contain both forms of implants remain the same. The sac holding the material in both the cases is made out of silicone. The two primary types are explained below

  1. Saline implants: As the name states, saline implants are sacs filled with saline water. In the case of saline implants, the sacs are inserted into the breast through an incision. After the sacs are put inside the breast, they are filled with saline water and once the desired shape, contour, and size are achieved, the implants are sealed off and the incision is closed.
  2. Silicone implants: In this type of implant, the sac is pre-filled with silicone gel. This option is considered to have a more natural look and feel as it resembles human fat. The size of the implants however has to be decided beforehand. The doctor will make an incision on the underside of the breast, where the crease lies and then insert the implant into the breast. The incision is then closed and after healing, the scar will be hidden under the crease of the breast.

Considerations before surgery -
1. Complications  -
This form of cosmetic surgery is one of the most commonly performed around the world. However, there could be a few complications that can arise after the surgery –

  1. Infection after surgery
  2. After surgery, scar tissue formation may cause the shape of the tissue to change
  3. The implants may leak or rupture
  4. Pain in the breasts
  5. Change in the breast sensations and the nipples (although in most cases this temporary)

2. Other considerations post-surgery -
Some of the other considerations that you might have to consider before surgery would be –

  1. Breastfeeding: While some women have stated that they were able to breast feed successfully after an implant, others have reported problems. Thus you may need to talk to your doctor about this especially if you want to have children post surgery.
  2. Complications in getting a mammogramMammograms to check for breast cancer and growths in the tissue may become complicated as the implant will block a straight view. However, pictures from other angles can be taken.
  3. Getting breast implants won’t stop your breasts from sagging: If you have sagging breasts, then you will need to opt for a breast lift surgery instead of breast implants as implants won’t correct sagging.
  4. Breast implants may not last a lifetime: Breast implants may require to be changed after a few years as your body shape may change and you may gain or lose weight. Implants may even rupture or leak, resulting in the change of the breast shape and thus, may require corrective surgery again.

Breast Augmentation Surgery - Know Vital Points Of Consideration!

Over the past decade, many women have opted for Breast Augmentation Surgery. It is a surgical process to improve the aesthetics of one's breast. Apart from giving a much-needed lift to the bust size, the augmented breasts can do your confidence a world of good. Breast Augmentation Surgery, if gone wrong, can create havoc. The outcome of the surgery can be influenced by a number of factors. Thus, before going under the knife, some important and vital points need to be taken care of.

- It is advisable to avail the services of an experienced surgeon, who has a higher success rate. A lot of confusions and apprehensions may arise during course of the surgery. An experienced surgeon will ease out the tension to a great extent and guide you better.

- Breast Augmentation is no child's play: Do not embark on breast augmentation surgery if you are below 18 years of age. It can result in serious health complications. Surgery can wait, but health once lost, will be gone forever.

- The type of implants to be used: Saline and Silicone implants are commonly used in breast augmentation. Both the implants come with their own sets of merits and demerits.

Being softer and smoother, Silicone implants give the augmented breasts a very natural feel. The chances of scalloping (the skin around the breasts appear wavy) are negligible in case of silicone implants. However, silicone implants come pre filled. Thus, a bigger incision is needed to get it inserted. Though approved by the FDA, leakage of the silicone implants into the body have been reported. The leakage can affect health seriously. Interference of the silicone implants with the mammogram can also pose a serious threat.
The Saline implants, on the other hand, are not pre filled. Thus, a small incision is all it takes to get the implants inserted. Once inserted, the implants are filled with saline solution. The saline implants can also leak into the body, without any serious implications. The biggest limitation of saline implants lies in the fact that it gives the breasts a very hard feel. Scalloping cannot be ruled out either.

- Do not go for breast augmentation surgery if you are planning to start a family in 1-2 years of time. A weaning or lactating lady should also avoid the surgery.

- The exact location of the implant is an important factor to ponder upon.  One can go for an under the muscle or over the muscle implants.

- One can opt for a round implant or a tear-shaped implant. The biggest USP of tear-shaped implant lies in the fact that it gives a very natural feel to the augmented breasts. The round implants, on the other hand, are much safer to use.

- Go for the surgery only when you are physically, mentally and emotionally fit and healthy.

Breast Augmentation Surgery is a very tedious process.

Breast Augmentation.

Breast Enlargement is one of the most frequently performed surgeries. No medicines or creams work to increase breast Size. Enlargement can be done with fat grafting or silicone breast implants.

Breast Enlargement & Breast tightening is done by enlarging it with silicone breast implant or Fat graft.

Silicone implants are the gold standard world over, a very short operative procedure with very gratifying results. The creams and capsules have never actually worked, but since everyone is not immediately ready for surgery so the companies use these gimmicks to market their products. If there is a lack of substance then augmentation with a silicone implant is the best choice and a gold standard procedure. It is a day care procedure and you are discharged in a very short time from the hospital and it brings about an instant change in breast size and self-esteem. Almost 10 crore implants are in use and so it is extremely safe.  There is no medication to give the results. No one wants surgery unless it is necessary. NO Creams or Pills actually work except psychologically. Surgery is the only answer. Like nose or face breast also comes in all shapes and sizes. Size does not matter from a functional point of view but has an emotional side to it.

The surgery is almost painless because there are enough medications to keep the pain under control. There is no natural way to increase Breast size, except that after childbirth the size may become and remain bigger.

Breast Enlargement - All You Should Be Knowing!

Breast enlargement is a cosmetic surgery where you get implants in the breasts to make them look larger than their actual size, to change the shape of the breasts, or perhaps to make you breasts look even. There are two types of breast enlargements:

  1. Silicone Implants: These implants are filled with silicone insides. The silicone gel might be soft or firm. Some of the silicone implants might also have a coating of polyurethane. Silicone implants aren't prone to getting wrinkled. If the gel is soft silicone, then it gives softness to the breasts which feel natural. The ones which are coated with polyurethane claim to reduce the risk of suffering from capsular contracture as well as implant rotating. There is always a risk of rupture in the capsule which might cause the silicone to flow out and spread in your breast, causing siliconomas. Usually the firm gel implant is used to avoid this condition.
  2. Saline Implants: The implants are filled with saline solution. So even if it ruptures, the saline is absorbed by the body. It might also pass out of your body. The only problem with saline implants is they deflate or rupture faster than silicone implants. They are also prone to getting wrinkled.

Where are they placed?

The implants are usually placed in a position between the breast and the chest muscles. They might also be placed behind these muscles. It looks more natural when placed in between the two muscles.

How Long do They Last?

These implants will not stay for life. They will require replacements after 10 years minimum. Most women get surgeries done in case their breasts have changed in shape around the implants.

How long will it take to recover from the surgery?

It usually takes a few weeks to recover fully from an implant surgery. Doctors might advise you to stay home for a week or two, and to avoid driving. They might also ask you to wear sports bras for a few months. If your stitches aren't dissolvable, then they have to be removed after a week. Probably you can return to your daily activities after a six week gap. In a few months time your breasts will start looking normal and they will feel natural.

Side effects:

You might feel a temporary pain accompanied with swelling as well as bruising. Your chest will also feel tight for a few weeks. Talk to a doctor before taking any further step so that he is able to explain the entire procedure to you.
