Our knee is supported by several ligaments which help in movement. But what happens if you tear a crucial knee ligament? Tears or 'ruptures' in ligaments of the knee are common in sportsmen and/or accident victims, especially of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
Though the ACL is not the only ligament of the knee, it is one of the most crucial to maintain the stability of the knee joint. Any tear of this ligament frequently leads to chronic knee instability. When a tear in this liga...more

Fracture refers to a partial or a complete break in the bone. Whenever, any kind of fracture happens, it gets classified as either open or closed. Open fractures refer to such situations when the bone tends to poke through the skin and could be seen with the naked eye. The same situation arises when a deep cut tends to expose the bone from the skin. Closed fracture is a condition when even after the bone break, the skin remains intact.

A fracture is a complete or incomplete crack, which appears on a bone due to the application of intense pressure or force. A fracture results in extreme pain, and the bone becomes immobile. Any kind of movement boosts the pain. Fracture pain occurs in three distinct stages. Acute pain is felt immediately after a fracture while subacute pain occurs over the weeks that follow after a fracture. The third stage or chronic pain occurs when the fracture and soft tissues around it have healed.

AVN is the acronym for avascular necrosis, which mostly affects the hip bone. This complication develops when there is a loss of blood flow to the bones. Being a living tissue, bones require a continuous supply of blood, and if there is an interruption to this supply for a long time, bones suffer from avascular necrosis. The longer duration of this condition may cause bone death. Apart from the hips, AVN may also affect other sites like knees, shoulder, ankles, etc.

What is bursitis?
It is a painful condition that affects many joints of the body.
Bursae are fluid filled sacs (cavities) found near the joints. They act as a cushion and contains a fluid which acts as a lubricant that reduces friction between. Together they help in easy movement of joints.
Sometimes because of some causes this bursa gets irritated and gets swollen (filled with extra fluid) putting pressure on nearby joint, the resultant condition is called bursitis.
