Due to BPH and acute urinary retention, I have bladder stones. Been checking into having PAE done to reduce the size of my prostate, but the radiologist says that I must have the stones removed before the PAE. My new urologist told me that because my prostate is so large (no urologist has told me.

Mr. Lybrate-user, both can be tackled at the same sitting, check on your urologist. If the stones are very small, once you undergo turp for your enlarged prostate, stones will pass out, if not, at the same sitting, they can remove the stones doing a cystoscopy.

Male, 70 years active professional - practising as a Cost Accountant- travelling between Kolkata Delhi and Kanpur Current Problem. Have been having common cold for last 5 days that is not subsiding despite taking bandryl and applying VIX vaporub in the night. Started with a running nose - that stopped but now there is congestion in the respiratory region and there are two to three sleep disruptions in the night. mucus is difficult to come out. I am on medication for BPH -Duprost and also for Neuro problem that arose two years ago and was finally diagnosed as having its connection with a chronic refract observed in right thalamus of brain - for that I have been on macabolmian (Vitamin b12) for almost 18 months.

You are probably having allergic rhinitis. You need to be explored for cause of allergy. Usually it is cold air, pollen grain or dust. Drugs also cause allergy. Nothing further can be said as of now on this platform. But see a good physician. You should get rid of it.

Blood came with urine once on Sat 26th Sep. Did CT scan THAT SHOWS enlargement of prostate and thickening of Urinary Bladder. Urine test was also done. Puscells 1.5- 2 and RBCs were found. Physician has prescribed-- antibiotic first and then Anti bacterial-(Martifur and Musran 600. Now as on today Oct 5. Feeling good. No dripping after urinating. No light burning sensation after peeing. Please tell me what should be the next step. Should I get the urine examination done again to check RBCs and puscells to see if Bladder infection is under control. Physician says that BPH is not that high that I would require Alpha Blockers. I do understand that if blood in urine is found again. I would need to get Kidney Profile done. Scan shows both kidney are good in size, shape and no stone or any flaw.

Madam, I have seen the details. However, you have mentioned only tsh value, nothing about t3 & t4. It is necessary to know those values also. Tsh 4.6 mu/l is not really high. It must be with in the normal range mentioned in your lab report. In uncontrolled hypothyroidism tsh invariably goes uch higher and t4 values also may be low. Please come back with all the values also mention your weight & height. Thanks.

Hi, I have hypothyroidism and have been taking 88 mcg, but now tsh value is 0.25 and the doctor has asked to take 25 mcg under the assumption that I am taking 50 mcg and we are planning to have baby soon. So can I not take medicine for a week and then check after one week again and resume the dose accordingly?

Your tsh is certainly not under control. I hope your doctor has done tests on thyroid antibodies. You must consult an endocrinologist or physician - internal medicine md and remain under his guidance for monitoring and review till tsh is brought around 2.5 to 4.5.

You have not mentioned the medications you are taking. Hypothyroid and bp are not very difficult issues for doctors to manage. For hypothyroid regular tablets and thyroid profile test at least every 3 months to fix the dosage is necessary. For high bp you should keep a diary to record your bp regularly at least every week at the same time, preferably in the evening under proper conditions of no exercise, intake of tea, coffee etc for half an hour before recording.
