Foods That May Cause Cancer

The food you eat is critical for your overall wellbeing as a number of cancers that affect the human body are of gastrointestinal origin. Stick to organic and chemical free foods to live a healthier life since they reduce the risk of cancer substantially. Regular consumption of the food items mentioned below increase your risk of developing cancer, as well as many other conditions and should be avoided at all costs.

1. Microwave Popcorn

Most microwave-popcorn bags are lined with c8, also known as perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) which increases the risk of certain cancers such as kidney, testicular, bladder, pancreas and liver cancer notably. Microwave popcorn also contains an artificial or synthetic butter flavoring called diacetyl which is extremely toxic and obstructs breathing.

2. Canned Tomatoes

While tomatoes are considered to be cancer fighting foods, their canned counterparts are extremely unhealthy and may cause cancer. This is mainly due to the lining of the cans they are put in which contains a chemical known as bisphenol-A or BPA that has been proven to elevate the risk of infertility as well as prostate and breast cancer. Due to their (tomatoes) high acidity, BPA leaks from the lining of the cans and penetrates into the fruit. Tomatoes should be cooked fresh or stored in glass jars.

3. Processed/Grilled Red Meat

Processed meats such as sausages, prosciutto, bacon, pimento loaf, bologna, hot dogs etc., contain various chemicals and preservatives such as sodium nitrate. This is added to make the meat look fresh and appealing but are, in fact, carcinogenic in nature. Moreover, you should also avoid grilling meat since it releases a carcinogen known as heterocyclic aromatic amines. Another dangerous food item includes smoked meat since it picks up tar from the smoking process.

4. Farmed Salmon

It is imperative to avoid farmed salmon because they are fed unnatural diets that are contaminated with carcinogens, antibiotics, chemicals, pesticides and so on. They also harbor sea lice, 30 times greater in amount than wild salmon. High levels of PCBs, cancer causing dioxins, and mercury have been found in them. It is advisable to opt for wild sockeye salmon instead of farmed salmon

4 Foods You Must Eat During PMS (Premenstrual Syndrome)!

Symptoms of PMS include moodiness, bloating and headache. All it takes is one symptom to crop up for the whole body to go down. While environmental changes and preventive measures play a crucial role in dealing with this condition, careful choice of food goes a long way in keeping PMS under control. Here is a list of some best and worst food for PMS:

Foods that are Good During PMS:

  1. Brussels sprouts, Artichokes and BroccoliThese veggies with high fibre content are known to ease bloating. Furthermore, the high water content of these veggies effectively deals with gas, discomfort, and puffiness. The idea is to refrain from foods with high sodium content that only contributes to the suffering. Sulfur-containing vegetables have tremendous health benefits, from maintaining healthy joints to boosting the immune system. Actually they help as anti inflamatory foods to help relieve abdominal and back aches. If a person is gassy and bloting eating high fibre will still worsen the situation. Instead eating soluble fibre foods which is obtained by sauteing the above vegetables is more helpful than raw versions.
  2. Quinoa, what berry and popcorn: These foods help to deal with a short temper which is a very common occurring of PMS. Some other good effects of a high carb diet such as these include fighting anxiousness, depression and maintain composure. Consuming whole grain on a daily basis also helps to keep the mood cheerful. This happens because of the added secretion of the feel good factor hormone called serotonin.
  3. BananaMany women tend to face sleep disturbances before the period sets in. A recent study at the John Hopkins University found that less sleep before the period makes a woman susceptible to cramps and discomfort. Banana contains melatonin. The latter helps the body maintain its natural rhythm.
  4. Eggs: The cravings during PMs can be very difficult to handle. It is therefore very important to start the day a very healthy breakfast. The right amount of protein and healthy fat present in an egg helps to keep the body energised throughout the day. Scrambled egg and an ounce of chicken is a perfect answer to PMs craving.

Some foods to avoid during PMS:

  1. Processed fats: Processed fat contains a lot of processed fats, sodium and salt. Processed fats make a woman puffy and increment bloating. Processed foods contain very high protein content that becomes very difficult for the body to process during PMS.
  2. Sugary foods: Craving for sugary food is pretty normal during PMS. However, too much sugar consumption during PMS fluctuate the blood sugar level. They also aggravate tension and mood swings. The latest study has found that refined sugar can disturb the immune system and creates a lot of fatigue in a woman.
  3. Caffeine: Restricting caffeine during the period can help prevent the cramps and bloating. Certain caffeine such as coffee, cigarettes and chocolate can aggravate breast tenderness, anxiety, and depression. What's more, they systematically create a craving for sweet and other caffeine-related stuff. A better alternative to caffeine during PMs is herbal and green tea, water and fruit juice.

Anal Fissures - What Treatment Options Should You Follow?

Anal fissures arereferred to as a small cut or a tear in the lining of the anus. The cut or crack on the skin is the main cause of the severe pain. The person might observe bright red bleeding during and after passing bowel movements. Sometimes, when the fissure goes deep it exposes the muscle tissue underneath of the anus. An anal fissure might occur due to labor, i.e. during childbirth, straining or pushing during bowel movements, constipation, diarrhea, or certain medical conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, cancer, and infection.

Individuals of all ages can be affected by anal fissure, including infants and young children. The common cause being constipation. This condition is not a serious issue. The tear can be treated or it might get heal on its own within a month or so. However, if it persists above two months, then it is considered a chronic or long-term fissure.

The symptoms of an anal fissure include:

  • Visible tear or cut in the skin around the anus
  • A small lump of skin or skin tag present next to the cut
  • Severe pain in the area during a bowel movement
  • Streaks of blood on stools or spotting on the dry tissue paper after wiping
  • Burning sensation or itching in the anal area

Causes

Mostly an anal fissure occurs while passing very hard or large stools. This could be due to chronic constipation or frequent diarrhoeal episodes that can lead to tearing of the skin around the anus. Other causes of occurrence of an anal fissure are Crohn’s disease or inflammatory bowel disease, straining during labor, over tight or spastic anal sphincter muscles, or decreased blood flow to the anorectal area.
A fissure might also occur due to anal cancer, HIV AIDS, tuberculosis, syphilis, and herpes.

Treatment
Mostly anal fissure does not require extensive treatment. Some of the home remedies can help treat anal fissure and relieve the discomfort caused. The home remedies used for treatment are:

  • You can use over-the-counter stool softeners
  • Drink more water or fluids
  • Take fiber supplements
  • Have high fiber diets by including fibrous foods, such as raw fruits and vegetables, dry fruits, cereals, etc.
  • You can even take warm sitz bath to relax and relieve the pain in the anal muscles and it will also help to increase the blood flow to the anorectal area.
  • You can apply an ointment containing nitroglycerin to the anus in order to promote blood flow, or
  • Hydrocortisone cream to help with healing the inflammation.
  • You can apply topical pain reliever, lidocaine to the anus to relieve yourself from discomfort.
  • An ointment with calcium channel blocker can be used to relax the sphincter muscles and will help to heal anal fissure.
  • Botox injections into anal sphincter can also heal anal fissure. Spasms in the anal area can be prevented through Botox injections. This injection temporarily paralyzes the muscle. Due to this, the anal fissure gets time to heal and prevent the formation of new fissures.
  • If the fissure is not treated with home remedies, the doctor might recommend anal sphincterotomy. This surgery involves making a small incision in the anal sphincter to relax the muscle, thus healing the anal fissure.

Prevention
An anal fissure can be prevented by taking following preventive measures:

  • Keep anal area dry
  • Proper cleaning of the anal area with mild soap and warm water
  • Drink plenty of water and fluids to prevent constipation
  • Avoid consumption of sharp foods that are difficult to digest such as nuts, popcorn, etc.

How To Control Hip Joint Pain?

Get a diagnosis before anything else. It is really important to know what is causing your pain. See a doctor before you start doing any exercises or taking any medication. There are many reasons your hip could be in pain, including arthritis, bursitis, or an injury you've got while playing a sport. Always ask your doctor what you should and should not be doing, given the cause of your hip pain.

1. Ice your joints: Holding ice to your hips will reduce inflammation of your joints. You should hold an ice pack to the affected area for 15 minutes several times a day. If you find that the ice pack is uncomfortably cold, wrap it in a towel and then place it on the pained area.

2. Heat your joints if you have arthritis in your hips: Heating your joints can soothe the pain you feel. Consider taking a hot bath or shower, or soak in a hot tub if there is one available to you. You could also consider purchasing a hot pad that you can place directly on your hip. Do not use heat to soothe your joints if you have bursitis. Heat can cause hips affected by bursitis to actually become more inflamed.

3. Get some rest: If you have injured your hip, the best thing you can do is to simply give your hip time to heal. Avoid anything that causes you to feel pain in your hip. Instead, grab an ice pack, a bowl of popcorn and watch some movies. You should give your hip a rest for at least 24 to 48 hours.

4. Avoid high-impact activities: If you are in severe pain, chances are you won’t feel like running or jumping anyway, but it is good to keep in mind that these activities should be avoided. High-impact activities will cause your joints to become more inflamed, thus causing your more pain. Instead of running, try taking a brisk walk, as walking has much less of an impact on your joints.

5. Consider losing weight: The more your body weighs, the more weight your painful hip is burdened with supporting. Losing weight can help ease hip pain simply by removing some of that weight that stresses the cartilage and joints.

6. Choose the right shoes: You should buy shoes that give you as much support as possible. Look for shoes that have great cushions, or have removable insoles so that you can add orthopaedics. The sole should have good shock absorption, should limit pronation (turning or rotating the foot) and will evenly distribute pressure along the length of your foot.
