High On Fibre Diet - 10 Foods That Promote It!

Fibre is crucial for proper digestion and 85 % immunity of the human body is due to digestion alone. Scientists have recently concluded after years of study that the human brain and gut are indeed connected. Tips On Keeping Your Joints Healthy And Strong!

Joints are a vital supporting point for your body because it helps to move or bend your other body parts like elbows, knees, back, and hip which is very crucial to perform our daily task. It helps improve our mobility and keeps us active for the whole day.

It is advised by orthopaedics to take extra care of your joints. If you don't take proper care of your bones, you may face several health problems as you grow old. As a result, you will find it very difficult to do your daily routine work.

There is a lubricant in your joints, which helps to hold your joints together, and it also avoids the bones from rubbing each other. Medically, it is termed as synovial fluid. Due to various reasons like lack of proper nutrition and wrong body movements, the level of this fluid is affected, thereby causing multiple health problems. You should take utmost care of your joints to have a healthy lifestyle. Few guidelines are given by orthopaedics to take care of your bones.

  1. Ensure proper nutrition: Proper nutrition is the key to overall health. Healthy fats help to retain the lubrication in your joints. Apart from this, they also help in increasing the count of cell membranes, which plays a vital role in building molecules. Source of these omega 3 fats are walnuts, chia seeds, flax seeds and pecans. Also, ensure that your diet includes rich sources of vitamin D and calcium. Calcium is an essential nutrient, which helps in strengthening the bones and muscles. To receive enough calcium every day, you should take sufficient amount of vitamin D which aids in calcium absorption. Ensure that your daily diet includes figs, yogurt, broccoli, kale and almonds, which are rich in calcium.
  2. Avoid idleness for long hours: To have a healthy joint, you need be active. Make sure that you change your body positions often like if you are watching a TV or reading a book, keep improving your position while you are idle. Also if your work requires you to sit in the same place for long hours, you can take some short breaks frequently. By this way, you can avoid the stiffness and pain in your legs.
  3. Maintain body posture: You should also take care of your position while lifting weights, at the time of walking and sitting. For instance, while you are carrying some weight, ensure that you do not bend your back; instead, you can move them by bending your knees. You should also sit straight while being idle. This not only protects your knees but also takes care of your hip joints.
  4. Practice exercise and rigorous workouts: Exercise helps you to stay fit by losing unwanted weight. It also benefits you by avoiding joint pains because being obese puts more pressure on your knee joint, which gets damaged as we grow old. Apart from that, it also lets your bones gain flexibility. Keeping your weight under a healthy range will be the grand thing which you can do for your joints.

Which Foods Can Help Maintain Gallbladder Health?

Which Foods Can Help Maintain Gallbladder Health?

The gall bladder is a very small organ located behind the liver. This organ stores the bile created by the liver and releases it whenever needed. We rarely pay attention to this organ until there is a problem and most gallbladder related problems are very painful. Unknowingly you may be harming your gall bladder by eating certain types of food like red meats and saturated fats. On the other hand, eating some types of food can improve your gall bladder health. Some such foods are:

  1. Fiber-rich foods: Fruits and vegetables are rich sources of fiber and a must in a balanced diet. Fiber helps keep the gall bladder healthy and also helps prevent gallstones from developing. An easy way to add more fibre to your diet is to incorporate a salad with your lunch and dinner.
  2. Water: Water not only helps hydrate the body but also helps maintain the water levels required in bile. Ideally, a person should drink 8 glasses of water a day. This should not all be drunk at one time but should be spaced out through the day. Drinking too much water at one time will result in the body expelling it in the form of urine instead of absorbing it.
  3. Foods rich in Pectin: Pectin is a dietary fiber that binds cholesterol in the stomach and helps in its removal from the body. Since cholesterol is one of the major causes for gall stones, eating pectin-rich foods helps reduce the risk of gallstones. Some foods that are rich in pectin include citrus fruits, strawberries and apples.
  4. Flaxseeds: Eating just one tablespoon of flax seeds a day can boost your health in a number of ways. One of the many benefits of including flaxseeds in your diet is a healthy gall bladder. Flax seeds contain mucilaginous fiber or fiber that forms a gel. This type of fiber aids in the liver’s synthesis of bile acids and thus keeps the gall bladder healthy.
  5. Omega 3 Fatty Acids: Not all fats are bad for the body. Omega three fatty acids play an important role in producing anti-inflammatory compounds. Some rich sources of omega 3 fatty acids include olive oil, avocados and flax seeds.
  6. Citrus fruits: Citrus fruits are very rich in vitamins like vitamin C. a deficiency of this particular vitamin can cause gall stones. For this reason, eat plenty of citrus fruits and other fruits and vegetables such as bell peppers and broccoli that are rich in vitamin C.

White Vs Brown Egg - What Is More Nutritious?

Lifestyle changes such as eating healthy and exercising are to be incorporated in everyone’s life. The awareness to go organic is being spread wide, mostly because of social media. Analysis of the food we eat and questioning the components of our diet is very much necessary and this has created a lot of facts and myths. In the world that we live in today, we weigh multiple options for choosing the right one. One such comparison is between white eggs and brown eggs. The egg shell color influences consumers to a great extent.

Nutritional value

Eggs are filled with nutritional value. About 70 calories, 6 grams of protein and vitamin B are the components of eggs. Eggs are a very good source of protein. The egg yolk contains a lot of cholesterol. Those who would want to avoid cholesterol can take only the egg white. Carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin are the other nutrients present in eggs. They lower the risk of macular degeneration. Choline, another element present in the eggs helps in memory development.

Types of eggs

The common labels one could see in the case of eggs are free-run, organic, free-roaming, vegetarian fed, Omega-3 enriched and graded eggs. These categories are based on the diet and lifestyle of the hens. Some hens are fed vegetarian food and are not given animal proteins. Some are not caged and are let in open spaces. These hens lay eggs in their nests and some are fed with flax seeds. Such eggs are labeled as Omega-3 enriched.

White vs brown eggs

Here are a few points to ponder about the difference between white eggs and brown eggs:

  1. Shell: The color of the shell is the major difference between brown and white eggs. The egg shells of brown color are believed to be hard, which is nothing but a myth. Young chickens lay harder shelled eggs.
  2. Nutritional value: The color does not really determine the egg quality. What really matters is the hen's diet. Two hens, given the same diet, lay eggs with the same nutritional value irrespective of the color of the shell.
  3. Yolk: It is believed that brown eggs have richly colored yolks when compared to white eggs. This is determined by the amount of corn the hen eats rather than the eggshell color.
  4. Cost: White chicken lays white eggs and brown chicken lays brown eggs. Brown eggs are costlier than white eggs. This is because the maintenance of brown chickens cost more. They are larger in size and they require more food. This costs the farmers more.
  5. Taste: White eggs and brown eggs taste the same. There are not many differences when it comes to taste of the eggs. This again depends on the food to the hen.
  6. Bleaching of white eggs: White eggs are not bleached to make them appear white. As mentioned earlier, the color of the hen influences the color of the eggs. Sometimes brown hens lay white eggs but the color of the resulting white egg is darker than a normal white egg. This has no connection with bleaching.

The nutritional value is the same for both the eggs. The major things that cause a difference between these two eggs are the shell color and cost.

Tips To Help You Lose Weight Post Festivities!

A bit of bloating is normal during the festivities due to the abundance of sweets consumed during this time. However, it is necessary to return to your healthy self, post this cheat period and this can be possible only if you follow a strict diet and exercise routine.

Here are a few tips which can help you lose weight post-Diwali:

  1. Make physical exercise a part of your daily routine: There is no alternative to physical exercise, which is why it is necessary to engage in moderate to high level workout to drop those extra kilos post Diwali. You can hit the gym for half an hour or brisk walk or choose more interesting forms of exercise such as dancing or Zumba. However, the key here is to remain consistent.

  2. Start your day with the right liquids: Add generous amounts of liquids and fluids to your daily diet which are healthy and low in fat content. Vegetable smoothies, sugar-free juices, coconut water, green tea and lemonade (without sugar) are great options to keep sipping on throughout the day. These liquids make you feel full faster and restrict you from consuming too many calories in the day. These liquids also hydrate your body and help in flushing out toxins, thus helping you detoxify and drop those kilos.

  3. Have smaller but more frequent meals: You do not have to go on a crash diet post Diwali to drop those kilos quicker, because crash diets only result in weakness and temporary water loss from the body. However, what you can do is have small meals more frequently during the day. The time gap between two meals shouldn’t exceed 3 hours. This keeps hunger at bay and reduces the total number of calories consumed daily which help in reducing weight quicker.

  4. Follow the thumb rule of detox: “If it comes in a sealed package or a tin, do not eat it.” Follow this thumb rule of detoxifying, post Diwali, as they are loaded with saturated fats and preservatives which make you fatter. Instead, opt for fresh fruits and vegetables in your meals along with fat-burning food items such as fish-oils, dates, berries, flax seeds, eggs, sprouts etc.
