What exactly you mean patch of alopecia. Do you mean you hv lost hair in a patch or you hv flakes of danruff coming out in patch. If it's flakes of danruff ideally shud use a maintainance shampoo for few days so that it dsnt relapse.

Finasteride can cause impotence in 1-2% people taking it. And it's reversible on stopping the medicine. It doesn't reduce your chances of becoming a father. Though you should ideally stop it when you r planning for a child and re-start it ones wife is pregnant.
Now if you r so tensed about side effects there are topical forms available now which doesn't have risk of impotency. Please consult for better discussion on available treatments and guidance.
