Thyromegaly tends to occur due to either iodine deficiency or due to other causes like thyrotoxicosis and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. If pressure symptoms are there then surgery is the only option to relieve those. It would have been better if you had mentioned actual T3, T4 & TSH values. pain could be due to soar throat, pharyngitis etc.
if you feel its thyroid enlargement you can do ultrasonography of neck to rule out thyroid swelling. small thyroid nodules are difficult to palpate with fingers and for that USG is best option.
