The occurance of tonsillitis is usually sudden and there are no pre-defined symptoms for it. Once you are infected with tonsils, you may feel sore or scratchy throat, pain and difficulty in swallowing. In case of acute tonsils, symptoms lasts for 2 to 4 days. In few patients, however, symptoms may last for 2 weeks. Another type is recurrent tonsillitis that comes several times a year in a patient.

If she has recurrent episodes of acute tonsillitis documented by a doctor more than 4 times a year, its recommended you get her tonsils removed. If its less than that, you don't need surgery.
The guidelines are very clear. Hope that helps you to make a decision.

Medication:
Take homoeopathic Bakson’s Tonsil-Aid tablet/ 1 tablet thrice a day daily for a month. Report back.
