Acute Diarrhea Questions

Asked for male, 26 years old from Meerut

Chronic Diarrhea I am 26, have always been into workout, supplements and always ate healthy. In Nov, 16 I first noticed a change in my bowel movement and In July, 17 I had sudden watery diarrhea after a boozy night and some street food. My colonoscopy, endoscopy and other tests for celiac and parasites were done in Aug, 17 and were all normal. I was given a course of Azithromycin (with some improvement) and was diagnosed with post infective ibs as my symptoms of diarrhea continued. With every passing month I keep losing some weight and use to have 3-4 bowel movements mostly in the morning (sometimes at night) From Aug, 17 to Dec, 17 I tried homeopathy and Ayurveda but could’t continue for Long as it aggravated my symptoms. In Dec 17, I had some symptoms of arthritis in my right ankle (reports were normal) and got subsided in 40-50 days. Weight came down to 66 (from 73 in July, 17) I again tried homeopathy in Jan, 18 but could’t continue as it aggravated my symptoms. Tried ayurveda in Feb, 18 but could’t continue for the same reason. Weight came down to 62. I then decided to go to AIIMS in April, all the required tests including capsule endoscopy was done with no diagnosis. Professor over the concluded that either it’s some chronic bacterial infection or it’s just ibs d, he gave me emset to control my diarrhea. My current weight is 59-60 Kg, I usually have 2-4 bowel movement, loose and mostly in the morning (sometimes at night too) I get very severe dizziness, specially when I get up after lying down for sometime And a weight loss of 14 KG I am stuck now, have left my job and don’t know what to do. -Should I again try ayurveda or homeopathy (really afraid to) -Should I just stop trying and give some time to my body to recover. -Should I start taking anti diarrheas or other medicines to stop my diarrhea, will that help to gain back my lost weight? Forgot to mention that I am also quite depressed, can it be depressed as I don’t see any hope, every treatment option has failed till now. I am currently seeing a gastroenterologist in Meerut (my hometown) and he is suspecting it as tropical sprue, he put me on a course of doxycycline, one week gone without any improvement (how long does it take for doxycycline to respond?) Please help with your suggestions, my main concern is weight loss, can still manage my day to day symptoms. Can ibs really cause weight loss? Thank you all in advance.

IBS may cause weight loss because of low absorption of digested food, in IBS digestion may not be completed. Ayurvedic medicines are more effective in IBS, you should consult ayurvedic doctor. Take tab panchamruta parpati 2 tablets 2 times per day after food with hot water for 15 days, tab shankh vati 2 times per day before food with hot water for 15 days. Consult me online through Lybrate for more effective ideas for cure of IBS.

Your mother is probably suffering from complications of diabetes. She needs to have her sugar levels in strict control. Taking Ciprofloxacin-Tinidazole for a prolonged period is NOT advisable as it has its own side-effects. Do get in touch with an endocrinologist and get her examined.

If reports are normal and if antibiotics acting on gram negative bacteria has already been given than we have to label it as IBS and I will suggest you to avoid spicy and junk food items and eat freshly prepared homemade food items and as of now eat either curd rice or khicdi.

Stop milk, tea and coffee, you may take curd and butter milk with a light diet, you may take probiotics. If there's blood or if it continues, worsens over next day show a doctor near by, if it's improving then you may just continue the dietary changes suggested.

add saunf to his bottle feeds ........and if he is on your feed add some thing like food and nutrition and fruits which constipate like banana , moong daal rice water ,coconut water honey and many home remedies A staple in many Indian homes, this pani is a good source of protein, vitamins, calcium and starch.
Boil 1 tablespoon of rice in 1.5 cup filtered water until it is well cooked and soft. Mash it a bit and strain through a sieve to get a thin watery rice soup............
