Respected Lybrate user. Most of the orthopedic problems. Not only needs doctor's prescription (medication) but also do home ex's (physical therapy) and take proper diet (this is suggested by your doctor or nutritionist) taking care, precautions, preventive measures, ergonomic precautions, lifestyle modifications (which are advised by your doctor or physio therapist. All are doing in your treatment time. If all are follow. Your back muscles pain also decreased and fully recovered.

Respected Lybrate user. Your grandfather's problem (surgery) and his complication are are treated and take decisions only your doctor's (orthopedic surgeon). I think your grand father's age is very important to plan for surgery. Family members support, decision are also important. No need to feel bad. Doctor's will try. As well as possible. Be confident and be positive.
