If its completely tear then you must go fur surgery, because ACL is a main ligament of knee joint. ACL runs diagonally in the middle of the knee. It prevents the tibia from sliding out in front of the femur, as well as provides rotational stability to the knee. If you have injured your ACL, you may require surgery to regain full function of your knee.

I am a 30 year man currently residing in Bangalore who recently met an accident 2 months back where I injured my knee badly when fell from the scooter. I went for MRI scan and foundhad torn my ACL ligament and meniscus tear. I was not able to walk for 2 weeks after the accident. After two weeks I was able to walk with less pain, wore knee braces to support my knee, as had instability in my knee. I consulted 4 doctors in different hospitals for the opinion. They all were more interested in making the money from operations rather than giving me suitable treatment and suggestions by asking and implying how much insurance cover you have and you should go for surgery immediately otherwise I wouldn't be able to walk and run again in my life. When I digged my head through articles and videos on the internet, came to see that ACL can't be heal on itself but doing pre-hab before operation is recommended so that post operation leg should gain strength to perform all the activities after 8-10 months. As I am overweight, that is also a hindrance in recuperating from the surgery. Need invaluable suggestions as how long shall I wait before surgery and any good doctor to see where I get proper advice and treatment for surgery if it is a must.
