Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is also called as acid reflux. It is a long-term digestive disorder that affects the lower esophageal sphincter, the ring of muscle between the esophagus and stomach which causes the stomach contents to come back up into the esophagus resulting in either symptoms or complications. Maintain a healthy weight
Stop smoking
Elevate the head of your bed- Wood or cement block (6-9 inches) or wedge below mattress to raise the body from the waist up. Adding a pillow is not effective.
Don t lie down after meal (for 3 hours)
Eat food slowly and chew thoroughly (put down your spoon or fork after every bite and pick it up again once you have chewed)
Avoid foods- fatty and fried food, tomato sauce, alcohol, chocolate, garlic, onion, mint, caffeine, etc
