Back Pain - Causes And Treatment!

 Back Pain Causes And Treatment.

There are several back pain causes – but, distinguishing causes is significant to the future resolution of the matter, and your doctor or hired therapist can assist you to figure that out. a lot of usually than not the underlying downside has been a gift for a few time before the pain evolves, or the matter is aggravated by a trying movement or state of affairs leading to pain.

In my expertise, there are 5 primary causes of mechanical back pain.

  • Poor posture
  • Injuries and accidents
  • Stress
  • Ageing.
  • Medical conditions

1. Posture:

Each a part of the body was designed to be in a very specific position. However, even though we tend to start with good posture, modern-day living and also the necessities of our work environments usually mitigate against U.S. and favor poor posture. Over time this weakens the mechanical came upon of the body that, once tested, could break down and also the result is a pain. the issues I see most are results of poor sitting, standing and dealing postures. usually, a little modification in a very person’s posture eliminates this sort of back and neck pain. it’s vital to find out and maintain an honest posture.

2. Injuries And Accidents:

Overuse of muscles Associate in Nursing joints in an inefficient movement pattern will cause back and neck pain. this can be because of excessive strain being placed on one muscle cluster because of Associate in Nursing imbalance within the performance between muscle teams and might lead to muscle and joint injury. I see fractures to spinal bones caused by falls and car/bike accidents.

3. Stress:

Just as your temperament responds to fret in some ways thus will your body. The initial reaction of your body to fret is to tighten. once the muscles of your body tighten this features an alteration result on the nerves and ligaments and also the joint to that those muscles attach. this could in itself cause pain and pressure on the organs that the tight muscle surrounds. This usually ends up in poor performance of the organ. If this continues for any length of your time bodily health will be compromised in some ways. Despite what we tend to might imagine, muscles remember or yield to stress simply, thus usually the injury addressing is that the results of terribly previous stress.

4. Aging:

The most common reason behind back and neck pain I see is aging. usually, folks, ar suggested that there’s no treatment accessible to contend with aging-associated pain – this can be not true. The relief from pain that treatment will bring usually leaves patients astounded and curious why they need place up with their discomfort for therefore long. actually, ligaments get thicker and joints and discs dry out with age and this method may end up in nerves and muscles around the spine being affected. this could lead to pain, numbness, pins and needles and weakness. the foremost common age connected conditions I treat ar chronic disc illness (spinal stenosis) or at bay nerves. An at bay nerve may end up in pain distant from the spine, unremarkably mentioned as neuralgy. This terribly painful condition responds excellently to acceptable treatment.

5. Medical Conditions:

On every day, I treat autoimmune disease and Osteoarthritis, Spondylolisthesis, Scoliosis, and pathology. though these are physiological conditions they can also be helped and managed well with physiatrics treatment.

Amputation - Know Its Risk Factors!

Amputation - Know Its Risk Factors!

Roadside accidents are common and they lead to many health problems in which some may require amputation for removal of one of the limbs to save the life of a person.

Amputation is a life-saving procedure by which a part of the body that has suffered irreversible damage is surgically removed. Amputation is only carried out as a last resort when the infection/ decay spread to the other parts of the body.

Why is this procedure needed?

The most common cause of amputation is blockage of blood circulation. Without blood, the tissues do not get oxygen and begin to decay, and an amputation is carried out to stop the damage from spreading to other tissues. As stated above, an amputation is carried out only as a last resort. The surgeon checks the infected part for the following to make sure that an amputation is required:

  • Sensation
  • Circulation
  • Checking for a pulse close to the region where the cut is to be performed
  • Comparing skin temperatures with the affected limb

The surgeon tries to bypass arterial blood from the nearest artery to the affected region to rejuvenate the cells. Some reasons of amputation are:

  • Severe injury (extreme burns/ vehicular accidents)
  • Cancerous tumor in the bone or muscle
  • Serious infection, which has stopped responding to antibiotics
  • Thickening of nerve tissue called neuroma
  • Frostbite

Risks and complications of amputation

Risk of complication is lower in planned amputations than in emergency amputations. In the case of a planned amputation, the surgeon will shape individual muscles for future prosthetic limbs, smooth out rough bones and bone fragments and take care of all the loose ends of the procedure. In emergency amputations, however, the limb is amputated very fast and bleeding is stopped as soon as possible. The following complications may arise as a result of amputation procedures:

  • Heart complications
  • Venous blood clots
  • Slow wound healing or infection of the wound
  • Pneumonia
  • Stump or "phantom limb" pain
  • Psychological problems

Spinal Cord Injury: Know Its Causes & Symptoms!

Spinal Cord Injury: Know Its Causes & Symptoms!

A spinal cord injury is a damage to the spinal cord. It’s an extremely serious type of physical trauma that’s likely to have a lasting and significant impact on most aspects of daily life.

The spinal cord is responsible for sending messages from the brain to all parts of the body. It also sends messages from the body to the brain. We are able to perceive pain and move our limbs because of messages sent through the spinal cord.

If the spinal cord sustains an injury, some or all of these impulses may not be able to ‘get through’. The result is a complete or total loss of sensation and mobility below the injury. A spinal cord injury closer to the neck will typically cause paralysis throughout a larger part of the body than one in the lower back area.

Causes-

A spinal cord injury is often the result of an unpredictable accident or violent event. The following can all result in damage to the spinal cord:

  • a violent attack such as a stabbing or a gunshot
  • diving into water that’s too shallow and hitting the bottom
  • trauma during a car accident (specifically, trauma to the face, head and neck region, back, or chest area)
  • falling from a significant height
  • electrical accidents
  • severe twisting of the middle portion of the torso

Symptoms-

Some symptoms of a spinal cord injury include:

  1. Problem in walking
  2. Loss of control of the bladder or bowels
  3. Inability to move the arms or legs
  4. Feelings of spreading numbness or tingling in the extremities
  5. Unconsciousness
  6. Pain, pressure, stiffness in the back or neck area
  7. Signs of shock
  8. Unnatural positioning of the head

If you suspect that someone has a back or neck injury:

  • Don’t move the injured person – permanent paralysis and other serious complications may result
  • Keep the person still
  • Place heavy towels on both sides of the neck or hold the head and neck to prevent them from moving until emergency care arrives
  • Provide basic first aid, such as stopping any bleeding and making the person comfortable, without moving the head or neck

Prevention-

Because spinal cord injuries are often due to unpredictable events, the best you can do is reduce your risk.

 Some risk-reducing measures include:

  1. always wearing a seatbelt while in a car
  2. wearing proper protective gear while playing sports
  3. never diving into water unless you’ve examined it first to make sure it’s deep enough and free of rocks. Consult an Expert & get answers to your questions!

Common Tooth Injuries: First Aid For it!

Common Tooth Injuries: First Aid For it!

A chipped or knocked out tooth can be a very painful condition. Tooth injuries are most often caused during a sports activity or when you take a nasty fall. And such accidents can hamper your general well-being, your ability to enjoy food, your appearance and your precious smile.

Different types of tooth injuries:

  1. A minor chip: A minor tooth fracture usually involves chipping of the enamel only
  2. A major chip: A deeper fracture can involve chipping of both the enamel and the dentin of a tooth
  3. A serious fracture that exposes the nerve and blood vessels in the centre of the teeth
  4. A fully displaced teeth: Here the tooth is forced upward, downward or to the side
  5. A knocked off teeth: One that lands in your hand or shatters in the ground after impact
  6. Trauma injuries: A more serious accident that involves head, neck and facial trauma
  7. Wear and tear: Cavities or chewing and biting on hard objects like pencils, ice cubes, or hard chocolates can also lead to tooth injury
  8. Fighting the fight: When 'I'll break your teeth' ceases to be an empty threat

How are tooth fractures treated?

Treatment depends on the extent of your fractures. A knocked out teeth can be re-implanted in many cases. A permanent tooth that is re-implanted within 30 minutes has the highest chance of success. Here's what you can do to save your tooth:

  1. Collect your broken tooth: Carefully collect the tooth fragments to not cause any additional damage which may prevent re-implantation. Avoid touching the root part of the tooth. Wash it gently in lukewarm water and keep it in a small bowl of milk. Avoid scrubbing or scraping to remove dirt.
  2. Reinsert your teeth if possible: Once you rinse your teeth, try to reinsert your teeth in the cavity. This may be a painful exercise, so proceed only if you think you can bear through it. You can store it between your cheek and gum to prevent drying or in a bowl of whole milk.
  3. Take care of yourself: If there is bleeding, give your mouth a good rinse to clear off the blood that is blocking the view. Identify the source of bleeding and press in with a sterile gauze or cloth.
  4. Give yourself a treat: This is a great way to get your mind off the pain and works wonders for children. Treat yourself with an ice lolly/ frozen pop to ease out the pain. If there is any cut on your gums or lips, another equally tasty home remedy is to cover it with sugar which will temporarily stop the bleeding and the sweetness will help you to forget the pain for the time being.
  5. Go to a dentist: Even if it is a minor chip, it is always advisable to see a dentist, as the cut may be sharp and can eventually end up hurting your tongue.

Your teeth need to last your lifetime, so take good care of them, especially when faced with an injury. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dentist.

Back Pain - 5 Ayurvedic Remedies For it

Back pain refers to a severe pain in the back due to a strain in the muscle and the associated ligaments of the spine. Back pain is a fairly common condition and almost everyone has experienced it at least once in their lifetime. The pain can be either acute (pain in sudden bursts) or chronic (lasting for more than a month). Back pain generally tends to subside if one takes appropriate measures.

You might experience the following symptoms along with back pain:

  1. Severe pain around the muscles which might stretch down to your feet
  2. Back pain will significantly limit the flexibility of your back
  3. If there are recurrent instances of high fever and severe gall bladder disorders along with the pain, a consultation with your doctor is highly recommended.

Back pain might occur due to the following reasons:

  1. Back pain might occur as a result of osteoarthritis (a disorder that is characterized by the breaking and wearing down of the flexible tissues at the end of the bones) and osteoporosis (a disorder marked by bones that are weak and brittle).
  2. It might occur as a result of a fatal accident or an injury.
  3. If you are a chain smoker and have a history of excessive alcohol or drug abuse, you are more likely to experience back pain.
  4. Back pain might also occur as a result of ageing, excessive weight gain, lack of regular exercising, cancer and instances of severe depression.

Ayurveda can be very useful for eradicating back pain. According to Ayurveda, back pain is caused due to the heightening of the ‘vata’ owing to an unhealthy diet, anxiety, and suppression of muscles, collectively called ‘dosha’.

The Ayurvedic remedies for back pain are as follows:

  1. A regular intake of 30 ml of Aloe Vera juice in the morning might heal symptoms of back pain
  2. A regular intake of a mixture of 5g Triphala churnam mixed with water before retiring for the night might help to ease the general discomfort associated with back pain.
  3. Consume a medicinal preparation of 100ml of Black Gram (Urad Dal) daily for a week in order to get rid of the pain.
  4. You can also perform Paschimottanasana (an exercise where you have to touch the toes and repeat the same for a few times) and Vayu Mudra (an exercise where you have to move the index finger on the thumb base and the thumb finger in closed proximity to the index finger while the other fingers remain in a perpendicular position) to get rid of the back pain.
  5. Cut down on your consumption of pungent spices. This is because these pungent spices tend to have a drying effect on the body, that in turn, might lead to severe back pain, especially in the lower back along with constipation. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an ayurveda.

If we look at the data from the different pharmacies, pain killers are most commonly sold for back pain. We all keep on taking these painkillers to relieve from the pain, but we never understand and believe that these are some solution.

Ayurveda treats all types of back pains and also have researched that there are several causes behind the back pain. In some cases, we all fee that …ohh!! this cannot be the cause of the back pain! Here is the list of the reasons-

  • You comfortable Sofa or chair, on which you slouch daily: this deforms your back muscles and also makes you a patient of spondylosis.
  • Your habits of walking very fast- chances of injury are very high in such cases.
  • Heavy intake of dry foods in other language lack of proper unctuousness which can maintain the smoothness of your muscles and keep the rigidity away from you.
  • Bad digestion and excess of intestinal gases in your body.
  • A heavy sneeze, which you supressed because you were sitting somewhere in a meeting?
  • A wrong way to pick the weight.
  • Postural irregularities during pregnancy
  • History of injury or accident

These are most common causes we have found in different patients but in almost all the cases we have found that this is the stiffness of the back muscles, which caused the problem. To give an add on many of the patients, just get into bed on recommendation of some physicians and this Bed-Rest proved BAD for most of them, because it increased the stiffness of the back over all.

Regular use of painkillers might give us a pleasant feeling of- “absence of pain” for a while but the same pain killer keep on worsening the health regularly and after years we feel- cheated, because we used the painkillers to just get rid of a sensation.
