Hello-
yes, a bartholin's cyst or abscess may recur and again require treatment. Don't have sex while a bartholin cyst is healing. If the cyst is infected, it may break open and start to heal on its own after 3 to 4 days. But if the cyst is painful, your doctor may drain it. You can start ayurveda treatment if want to stop its recurrence permanently.

Do as the treating surgeon advised. In case of abscess in majority of cases, surgical drainage is required as antibiotics have little effect on accumulated pus. If you drain it using any sort of warm water application, there will be more chances for fistula formation. Size of abscess is technical matter and highly subject. Consult a surgeon and follow his advice.

Hii Lybrate user,
kindly consult a physician or surgeon for proper evaluation and treatment. Your abscess may require surgical procedure like incision and drainage with medical management like antibiotics combined with symptomatic measures like sitz bath. Don't wait for it to get cured completely, it can lead to complications.

It’s possible to treat a Bartholin’s abscess at home using sitz baths. In a sitz bath, you fill the tub with warm water up to hip level. It may take many days of sitz baths to treat the abscess because the opening of the Bartholin’s gland is very small, and it may close before drainage is complete. Soaking may not be the most effective cure, but a sitz bath can soothe your pain and discomfort. With a Bartholin’s abscess, you should soak in three or four sitz baths a day, for at least 10 to 15 mi...more
