Postural Correction- Sit Tall, Walk Tall. .Extension Exercises x 15 times x twice daily – lying on tummy, take left arm up for 3 seconds, then bring it down, right arm up for 3 seconds, bring down. Bring right leg up, hold for 3 seconds, bring it down. Then right leg up and hold for 3 seconds and bring it down. Repeat twice a day- 10 times. Bhujang Asana ? Lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily. Core Strengthening Exercises- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day.

I am having arthritis for the past 4 years. There is a slight joint space diminish on the medial side. I do exercise very regularly. But I am noticing that I get swelling on the back of the right knee which is causing problem. This happens on prolong sitting and diminish on walking. Please advice how to cure this symptom.

Advice... Avoid sitting Cross legged. Avoid Squatting- Quadriceps Exercises- Lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core Strengthening Exercise- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams Stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports Taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area Contrast Fomentation (Hot and Cold).

Hello, there are many causes behind backache *any strain or sprain in the muscles or ligaments of the back during lifting of heavy objects is the main cause of the lower back pain. *sitting in the wrong posture for a very long time is another cause. *people suffering from constipation may also suffer from lower back pain. *sometimes sleeping on wrong type of beds can also cause pain in the back. Follow the tips *take rest or move about once in 1-2 hours in case of working in a constant position. *maintain a good posture while reading or working with computers. *take a high fibre content diet like vegetables, fruits, etc.

Hi, if your pain started suddenly after lifting weight or sometimes even with rigorous exercise it may be due intervertebral disc prolapse. So pain starts immediately and is severe in nature. If pain develops gradually it may be due to muscle spasm/ mechanical backache. Well you require absolute bed rest (for your spine to rest) along with analgesics, physiotherapy may help. Disc is not seen on xrays, may require mri scan to rule out. Consult and get examined.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome - An Overview

The human hand has multiple bones, tendons, ligaments and muscles which in unison help us to grip things and manipulate other objects to do our work. Within the wrist lies a narrow passageway on the palm side which houses the main nerve for movement of the nine tendons. These tendons help us to move our fingers individually and grip things or accomplish any task we want with our hands.

What is carpal tunnel syndrome?
Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition where this nerve gets pinched due to a variety of factors and may have adverse effects. Some of the symptoms include tingling, numbness and pain with movements of the arm.

Causes of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome:
The nerve within the wrist which is known as the median nerve can be pinched due to a variety of factors:

  1. Movements where the wrists are always higher and in an angle: Repetitive movements of the wrists where the hands are always at a lower angle, can increase the chances of carpal tunnel syndrome. This is usually a workplace related problem and thus be caused by bad hand posture.
  2. Medical Conditions: There are certain medical conditions that may also trigger the onset of carpal tunnel syndrome such as diabetes, thyroid, menopause and other problems.
  3. Pregnancy: Pregnancy has also known to cause carpal tunnel disorder as it can alter the balance of fluids within your body. However, other factors could also put your fluids in imbalance and cause problems with the median nerve.
  4. Conditions that may cause inflammation: Certain conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis can cause the inflammation within the joints which might lead to the median nerve being pinched which in turn might lead to carpal tunnel syndrome.

Some Preventive Measures from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome:

  1. Breaks from repetitive work: It is important for your wrists to have a break when you are doing repetitive tasks that might cause carpal tunnel syndrome. Relax and stretch your muscles within the break time
  2. Wear wrist splints: These are support devices which can help correct problems for repetitive actions throughout the day while you are sleeping.
  3. Take pain reliever if you start having chronic pains: If your wrist pain is not letting you functions normally, take a pain reliever such as ibuprofen or aspirin and go to a doctor as soon as possible for a more thorough treatment.

Douring pregnancy lower limbs do develop some swelling because uterus grows big and put pressure on blood vessels of lower limbs. This is called dependent edema. It disappears invariably post delivery. If one develops hypothyroidism even then swelling of face and lower limbs does occur. Since you are having hypothyroidism, there is a possibility of this complaint. Particularly if tsh levels are not well controlled.

I have osteoporosis in my both knees. They are painful & stiff if I stand for long hours. Doctors are suggesting I can delay operation for a while. Is there any remedy to avoid operation. Please suggest.

If it is a stage 3 artritis then no remedy to avoid operation. U just start doing strengthening exercises around the knee joints.

The knee is one of the principal weight bearing joints in the body and is subject to much wear and tear in an averagely active person. If your work involves a great deal of bending or squatting, the risk of damage to the knee through overuse and/or injury is increased. Is the knee painful most of the time? A damaged cartillage, as a result of a sudden twisting or turing of the knee, may cause such symptoms, This type of injury is particularly likely in athletes or those  whose work involves repeated twisting and staining of the knee. Is your knee hot, swollen and very painful to touch? Gout, in which excess uric acid accumulates in the bloodstream and crystals to form in the joints, is a possible cause of such symptoms. Another possibility is an acute infection of the knee. Has your knee been troubling you for several months or years? Oeteoarthritis, as a result of wear and tear on the knee is a possible cause of such pain, especialy if you are over 50, or if you have regularly overused the joint at work or playing sports. Homeopathic Medicines Arnica, Bryonia,Causticum, Colchicum,Dulcamara, Kali iod, Ledum,Merc Sol, Pulsatilla,Rhustox, Ruta are according to symptoms are very effective medicines.

Hello Doctor, I have cervical spondylitis. From past 4 days I have pain in my back neck and front left side shoulder which is passing down to my chest. I feel it's some pinched nerve problem. The pain is coming to my throat also. I took medicine tolpidol. Brufen.flexura d and now neurobion forte but nothing is working on me. I feel better only when I take hot water shower. I also have fatty liver issue and Bp problem. should I ask Dr. to give injection as oral medicine are not helping me. I am really having discomfort while sleeping as I feel pain and spasm in chest area and sometimes burning sensation in back head. Please help what should I do Its been 5 days now pain is not going.

Spondylitis is one of the most common causes of back and neck pain, and results from inflammation of the vertebral joints. It is curable this is cervical pain (neck pain) and that's the reason the pain radiates until the shoulder blades. If you keep ice that would help to reduce the pain and feel relaxed and comfortable. You shall also do hot water fermentation that would improve the blood circulation to the painful area and thereby the pain would be reduced. You shall use cervical collar which would help you to reduce the radiating pain and also that would improve the cervical angle and improve the anatomical posture. The pain actually triggers due to nerve compression and that would definitely improve by wearing a cervical collar. You have to go for intermittent cervical traction and also you can do interferential therapy. Please consult the near by therapist for quick relief. Since you have pain for more than 10 years it is suggestible to go for cervical muscle strengthening exercises and also to use cervical collar to improve the contour of your muscle texture and to improve the cervical angle so that the posture is improved and it also gives you comfort and relieves the pain. It looks like you are anaemic. That's the reason your body becomes tired though you had good sleep during the night. The pain in the shoulder and back shows that your muscles become too tired especially in the area of the body where you get maximum body weight (ie. Back) and shoulder which moves excessively during the day for any activity which we do with our hand. If the pain subsides after the day starts ie. Once your metabolic activity starts in the body then you become alright, so you can take bath in warm water which would help you to break the tiredness. And also you can check with your calcium & vitamin levels in your body by consulting a general physician. You can also improve the protein diet in your body. Whenever you do breathing in and out you will feel pain in the upper back, middle back and also the pain will radiate upwards until the shoulder and also up to the chest. You might feel chest congestion and tightness and that be due to gastric trouble. Kindly do breathing exercises which might help you to get reduced with pain in the back and shoulder. Drink hot water to reduce the gastric trouble.

Dear , this condition is known as planter fascitis. Just do 1 thing at home, take lukewarm water in a small tub and put a small teaspoon of salt to it. Dip your heel inside for 30mins. After that dry it properly n put a thin filament of any ointment like moov, volini etc. N wear socks so that the heat remains for a longer period n keep your foot under the blanket. Do it before sleeping for 7 days and then tell me how it feels.
