KEGEL EXERCISES
Kegel exercises are designed to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles. These
muscles support the bladder and bowel openings in both men and women.
Strengthening the muscles of the pelvic floor can aid in preventing leakage of
urine or feces with coughing, sneezing, lifting, and other stressful movements.
Other benefits of kegels include enhanced sexual function, conditioned muscles
to make childbirth easier, decrease and/or prevent prolapse of pelvic organs,
and improve the ability to pass stool.

Who should do Kegel Exercises?
? Women and men with urinary and /or bowel incontinence
? Women and men who have demonstrated weakening of the pelvic floor
? Pregnant women or women who have previously had children
? Middle aged and older women
What you need to know about Kegel Exercises
The success of Kegel exercises depends on the use of proper technique as well
as compliance to a regular exercise program. When doing the exercises, it is
important to identify the correct muscles of the pelvic floor. At first, most
people contract the abdominal or thigh muscles while neglecting the pelvic
floor muscles. This may actually worsen pelvic floor tone and incontinence.
Kegels may be done as a part of biofeedback, when some patients require
assistance. Biofeedback consists of placing a sensor on the abdomen and
around the anal area, which measure the contraction of the pelvic floor
muscles. Occasionally, an electrode may be placed in the vagina in women, or
in the rectum in men.

Three Steps to an Effective Kegel
? Learn to tighten the muscles around the vaginal/anal area
? Contract the vaginal and rectal muscles. Note that when you perform
steps 1 and 2 correctly, you should also feel the muscles around the anus
tighten slightly. This is normal, but do not consciously try to tighten
those muscles.
? In a quiet, relaxed setting with no distractions, practice your Kegels and
determine how long you can hold your contraction and how many you
can do before becoming fatigued. Do not do more than 5-10 reps at time
with a 3-5 second hold.

Detailed Instructions on how to do Kegels:
Step #1: The urethra?The Functional Stop Test
After partially emptying your bladder, stop your urine flow in a slow controlled
manner, paying attention to how it feels.
Note: Stopping and starting the urine repeatedly as an exercise can be harmful
and should not be done. Holding your urine can contribute to bladder
infection, causing damage to normal urinary reflexes. The Functional Stop Test
is useful for assessing what it feels like to gradually stop urine flow, and should
not be done more than once per urination.
Step #2: The vagina and rectum as your window to the pelvic floor
For this step, you will internally assess the ability to squeeze and elevate the
muscles around the opening of the vagina or rectum, while lying on your back.
This is accomplished by inserting one finger into the vaginal or rectal opening
while you try to lift and squeeze with the muscles. Pay attention to how this feels.
Step #3: Putting it all together
Begin practicing while lying on your back with your knees bent, or lying back
with pillows under your head and shoulders. When your knees are bent you
should have pillows under them so that the muscles around the hips and
buttocks can relax. In this position, you can practice the actual Kegel, which
involves lifting and tightening the pelvic floor all at one time. This will be a
combination of what you felt when you gradually stopped urine flow, with the
feeling squeezing and elevating the muscles around the vaginal or rectal area.

How long and how many?
When you are first starting out, it is common to find that you can only hold a
Kegel for 3-6 seconds, and that performing 3-6 repetitions causes muscle
fatigue. When this happens, you are usually performing the exercise correctly.
If you find you can hold it for much longer right away, recheck your technique.
For patients with incontinence or pelvic floor weakness, it is important to
concentrate on correctly performing the technique and gradually improving the
muscle quality and tone, even though you may be weak first starting out.
Making Kegels a part of your life
After you have become experienced in performing these exercises, you will
want to do them as follows:
? A series of strong, steady squeezes for 8-10 seconds each ? Try to do 8-10 at a time
? For most people, 30 repetitions per day are adequate.
As they get easier, you will find you can do them while sitting or standing, for
example, you can do them while driving, working on the computer, or waiting in
long lines.
Please note that you may not see any noticeable change in bowel / bladder
control for a while. In some cases it may be many months.

You stop to think that obessing start to think that I am reducing will help you are ordering to your brain this effacts on our health. Stand up in fornt of mirror end think I am reducing day by day speack 10 times in a day. Avoid carbohydrates, rich proteins, eggs, nonveg, too oily end ghee prepretions. Take 6 to 8 hours sleep. Take simpal veg food with salad both times, avoid over eating, take less as you fill hungery.

It is probably due to duodenitis or duodenal ulcer. Take pan d last thing at night and first thing in morning for 1 month and then pan d one at bed time for 1 minth. Good luck.

'raktashodhak' medicinal herbs and local applications are the basic things. Apply pure garden fresh aloe vera gel by peeling leaf. Let dry overnight. Wash in the morning. Do for a week. Try to have idli or simple upma in morning or oats. Take proper lunch with chapati rice vegetables. At night try to have only soups. In between have some fruits or sprouts. Do brisk walking morning and evening and start doing yoga.

Hello lybrate user- you are clearly over weight. Weight gain at this age can be a pre symptom of diabetes, heart disease or high bp. You need some ayurvedic treatment along with the diet plan to achieve expected results. Try these modifications- a) wake up early in the morning and practice kapalbhati pranayam. B) avoid junk food and excess use of potato. C) avoid excess water intake and over eating. D) add oat sattu in your diet daily two times. E) use arogya wardhini vati 1 tab twice daily after meals.

Mr. Lybrate-user, diabetes mellitus is occurring either due to lack of insulin or resistance to its action or both. (t2 dm). Since insulin is needed for daily for glucose, protein and fat metabolism, if it is lacking or there resistance to its action, then it has to be made available with help of various drugs. If not then there is persistent high blood sugar. High blood sugar affects small & large blood vessels, nerve fibers and almost every vital organ in the body. Untreated or uncontrolled diabetes causes blindness, chronic kidney failure leading to total failure, peripheral neuropathy, affection to feet, non- healing ulcers on foot, lower limb, can lead to loss of limb. In india 1 lac limbs are cut due to diabetic gangrene. Severe burning sensation and tingling and numbness may occur in the lower limbs. Silent heart attacks are common. So we need to treat diabetes for life long.

Hello Raj, I am copying this answer from a recent reply that I have given. According to me, there are no targets to achieve here ! Hence, whatever you and your wife are comfortable with should be fine. Remember, Sex is not just intercourse or penetrative sex, there is a lot more to it. There is likely to be a mismatch in your desires (both husband & wife's). Hence, good communication and negotiation is an important skill too. Focus on the quality & forget about numbers/ quantity etc ! Good luck.

Weight gain is muscle gain and not fat gain. In your condition your energy requirement is very high so whatever you eat is used as a source of energy and you do not make muscle. To gain muscles you will have to eat at least 6 meals (high calorie) in a day at a regular interval with a proper ratio of proteins and carbohydrates. Proteins will help you gain body mass while carbohydrates will help you give energy. Protein foods are eggs, fish, chicken, milk and milk products, meat and dals. Carbohydrate foods are roti and rice, potatoes, sweet potatoes. You have to eat vegetables and fuits and use healthy and good fats for cooking like ghee, cold pressed mustrad or til oil. You will also have to do some weight training exercise to help you build mass into the body. Also drink enough water to keep you hydrated. If you want to go to the gym in the morning then before that have a small meal like a fruit n nuts and get back home n do your breakfast. It is not advisable to workout after dinner as you need to give at least 1 to 1 and half hour of gap between food n exercise. Best thing to do is eat 1 fruit and nuts before exercise and after that do your dinner.

For diabetes follow a diet low in carbohydrate, low in fat and high in fibre. Avoid bakery products. Avoid too much rice and potato. Avoid fried stuff. Avoid chocolate, cakes, ice cream, soft drinks and fruit juices. Eat lots of vegetables. Walk for at least 30 minutes a day for 5 days in a week.

Is your hair loss accompanied with greying of hair and have they become very thin? your hair needs a very high protein well-rounded diet. Hair and nails are the last organs to get nutrition in the body, hence only if all the organs get sufficient nutrition and proteins, only then the remaining nutrition would be used for hairs. A strand of hair is composed of mostly protein, which means your hair needs protein to grow. Hence a therapeutic diet prescribed by a registered dietitian can help a lot in hair growth. Besides diet excessive stress, current/past dandruff and some medication are conclusively known to retard hair growth and promote hair loss. - cut down on the use of hair spray, hair gels, and styling creams that contain harsh chemical ingredients, which can dry out the scalp and cause the formation of flakes. Also harsh treatments such as perms, colours, relaxers etc take a toll on the health of your hair. - avoid changing your shampoo and conditioner constantly. Stick to one good mild cleansing shampoo for six months before changing. - excessive exposure to the sun, pollution, rain water and dust without proper protection makes the hair dry, brittle and limp. Use a live in conditioner during the rains to protect it from the humidity and wash and oil it regularly to maintain a healthy scalp. I may also prescribe medications like biotin or minox. That are proven to help in hair growth and repair.

You seem to be over wt for your Ht. So, to reduce your body wt. If you have taken any treatment or exercise the skin becomes lax. But becomes alright after certain time. The expanded skin reduces so the skin may look old persons skin.
