I was doing yoga for spine. The yoga follows by lying flat on stomach and lifting the legs one by one. I did this yoga in morning. After that I am having pain in the back lower waist. Its like the pain is only in the muscles. I can sometimes feel the pain even by breathing. My question is that is this pain normal?

If you are doing yoga for the first time or after a long time then the pain is OK provided you don't have a history of back pain. Or else wait for some days for the pain to subside by applying hot packs and rest.

Hello, * certain symptoms r to be taken into account. # pain is better in movement or in rest. # does she suffer from gastric disorder? # what is the uric acid-level? # does she suffer from ra-level? however, * take, plenty of water, * go, for aerobic exercise of joints under the physiotherapist. *she should take, easily digestible diet avoidng junk food. *homoeo-medicine** @ rhus tox 200-6 pills, thrice a day. @ arnica mont 200- 6 pills, thrice a day. @five phos 6x-4 pills, thrice a day. Leg pain- for leg pain, please follow the below advise: keep your leg raised while sitting or lying quadriceps strengthening exercises- quad clenches: lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day.

Hello lybrate user, back pain that is associated with day time sedentary jobs like computer professional s are associated with paraspinal muscle spasms. The best way to tackle this sort of pain is to do well spaced stretching exercises of the back, back extension exercises, using hot water bags to provide relief and avoiding stooping posture while sitting. Posture also plays a very important part in back pain, always maintain a straight posture while sitting. While getting up from the bed try to first go on your left or right side of the body and get up side ways. Avoid cruntches or sit-ups: they may increase the pressure on your back and may predispose to slip disc. Always maintain a healthy lifestyle in terms of regular brisk walking, meditation, eating healthy. P. S: try to avoid pain killers (analgesics) as much as possible as many are associated with side effects that you may not be aware of. Stay healthy. Stay happy god bless you.

My mother is 50 years old and us suffering from diabetes from the last 5 years. Now she is complaining of pain in the whole body. Pain is more in her wrist. There is also swelling in her legs. Pain could be due to diabetic arthropathy, neuropathy, calcium, vit d deficiency. Wrist pain might also be due to carpal tunnel syndrome. Get calcium and vit d3 levels, tsh, uric acid. Take tab. Remyelin d twice daily. Swelling in legs could be due to low proteins. Get an lft, urine r/e and if she's hypertensive bcoz of amlodipine if she's on it. Venous insufficiency might also cause leg swelling.

Yes it is definately possible to control it by exercises. Osteoarthirits is a degenrative disorder. It can be controlled by professionaly designed physiotherapeutic exercises by restoring the balance between all the muscles around the knee thus preventing erosion of the joints. Exercises will prevent its speedy deterioration and improve quality of life. And yes painkillers are not the solution.

Umaji, Thanks for the query. When one is adequate dosage of levothyroxine, TSH is maintained < 3 mU/L, at that level all the troublesome symptoms of hypothyroidism are in complete check. As you are complaining of some of the symptoms of hypothyroidism, it is better to check the TSH level. If the level is higher than above mentioned, dosage may have to be increased. If you want I can help in achieving better control of the condition, for that you need to come back with following details: weight, height, T4 & TSH levls, then I will be able to guide specifically. Hello lybrate user, - 1st look at what is any giving you this pain. By avoiding that cause you will be better - change your posture of sitting while studying or working or traveling. - do some exercises which relax your bones and muscles. - do pranayama to reduce the stress which in turn reduce your headache - apply ksheerabala taila to the back to strengthen - take avipattikara churna 1spoon with warm water twice a day do it for 15days. Go for fasting once a week. You can go for absolute fasting or rely on a liquid diet to digest ama (toxin). Fasting should be followed by hot fomentation or by taking a bath with lukewarm water or steam bath. After fasting and fomentation, mix powdered long pepper, black pepper and dried ginger in equal quantities and take 1 teaspoon of this powdered mix with lukewarm water twice a day. This will help you restore your digestive fire. Take one tablespoon of castor oil before going to bed, once or twice a week. It helps in cleansing ama (toxin) build up and balancing vata. Mix equal quantities of powdered fenugreek seeds, turmeric and ginger powder. Take one teaspoon daily in the morning and evening. For dry fomentation of the affected joints, take a cloth and fold it into four, fill it with hot and sand make a potli (bag) out of it. Use this bundle for the fomentation of different joints. This is very helpful in reducing pain and swelling.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You should not be having persistent back pain, please elaborate your problem in detail as to whether there is any pain radiating down in legs and any other symptoms like numbness, paraesthesia, weakness in legs etc do you feel fever, weight loss, loss of apetite etc if you have localized back pain, you can start with - to maintain proper posture while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. Get back to me in case your symptoms do not get better in 2-3 weeks time. Actually I will advise for dynamic x rays of your back if you are not improving with conservative management after 2-3 weeks time. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.
