Hello, Pregnancy can happen especially if done during fertile period. You need to follow that. Also the chances of conception naturally are always 30-35% during natural intercourse.

Hi we got married in 2014 and used precautions for 1 year after that on regular basis we are doing intercourse but my wife is not getting pregnant. Dr. Said eggs is not developing fully. So today she gave fertomid 50, normoz, divafol, feris 100. May I know what kind of medicine they are and for which purpose?

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Fertomid tablets 50mg are used to treat infertility in women who are having problems conceiving because their ovaries are not functioning correctly so that they are not ovulating (a condition known as anovulation), but who have no other obvious cause for infertility, and whose partner is fertile. Fertomid tablets 50mg restore the normal function of the ovaries, allowing an egg to mature and be released (ovulation), which can then be fertilised. Fertomid tablets 50mg are also used to restore normal menstrual cycle in women with irregular ovulation or amenorrhoea due to several causes, including taking oral contraceptives or polycystic ovary syndrome. Fertomid tablets are also used to treat male infertility by increasing sperm production in men with low sperm count (but only at a lower dose of 25mg).Normoz Tablet is a medicine that is used for the treatment of Improper nutrition, Vitamin D deficiency, Diabetes, High cholesterol and other conditions. Other two are vitamins and iron for blood formation

If you have had regular cycles, then according to your last menses you are today 1 month and 4 days pregnant. You need to take a lot of care in the first 3 months--- no intercourse, no exertion, no travelling, no self medications, no weight lifting, no severe heat exposure etc.

Salient down side of anal sex is infection urinal tract infection ,std's are the easier one's to catch .better is to avoid it. Though you have done it you may have tests for std and hiv for better preparatory action. Wish you good health.

Dear, loss of appetite, nausea vomiting are common during initial 3 to 4 months of pregnancy. You be understanding and supportive, ask her food choices and give accordingly. Some times choices can be wierd, but after three months things start improving.

PCOS: What You Need to Know About It

MBBS, DGO, DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology)
Gynaecologist, Chennai
PCOS: What You Need to Know About It

PCOS or polycystic ovary syndrome is an endocrine disorder in women, in which the female hormones, progesterone and estrogen, are imbalanced. This imbalance leads to the formation of cysts (benign masses) in the ovaries. PCOS tends to affect your heart functions, fertility, menstrual cycle and appearance.

There are certain symptoms, which can be indicative of PCOS; these symptoms tend to begin as a woman's menstrual cycle starts. In certain cases, however, PCOS may also affect a woman in her mid age. PCOS can also cause excessive hair growth in unwanted places like above the upper lip, chin, arms and chest like a male.

The symptoms are:

  • Increase in the production of male hormone, leads to development of male characteristics
  • The size of the breasts may reduce
  • The tone and the texture of the voice may change and become similar to a man's voice
  • Hair may start to fall
  • You may suffer from acne and pimple breakouts on your face
  • It can lead to sudden weight gain
  • It may affect a woman's fertility
  • It may lead to pain in the pelvis

Other symptoms: Apart from these symptoms, a woman may also experience other health complications such as high levels of bad cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes.

Causes: The causes of PCOS are not well known, however, the likely causes are genetics and hormonal complications. If someone in the family has PCOS, then the risk of being affected by PCOS rises significantly. The other likely cause is the overproduction of the male hormone androgen in the female body. Although androgen is a male hormone, the female body also produces it in trace amounts. However, in some cases, when it is overproduced, it might impair the ovulation process.

Diagnosis and Treatment: Once the condition is diagnosed, there are certain treatments, which are recommended for the patient. The condition in itself does not have a cure, but the symptoms can only be controlled. Medications to control the androgen levels in the female body may be administered if you have androgen hormone complication. A balanced diet and an exercise regimen can be chalked out to control body weight and regulate blood sugar levels. If PCOS leads to ovulation problems, then medications to facilitate ovulation may be advised.

Hi doc, I am married and me & my husband not planning for any kids now. So what precaution we should use for this. As my husband doesn't use condom and I am afraid that may be I get pregnant, so to stop this what should I use? I heard pills are not good for health and sometimes it's change the hormones also. please suggest me what should I do?

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)

Prima facie if you do coitus 20 days after M.C., chances of conception are least. This is due to ovulation cycle. However your cycle days should be known to reach an inference.

I had sex with my girlfriend and gave her ipill within 15 hours. She had some sort of bleeding after 7 days. What does it means?

MBBS, MD Psychiatry, DNB Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Nagpur
I pill or any emergency contraceptive pills are known to cause menstrual irregularities. Her bleeding on 7th day of taking that pill may be a similar symptom. Watch out for her scheduled period this month, if she misses it consult a gynecologist.
