Vitamin D for Athletes - Why do they Need It to Perform and How to Get Enough?

Vitamin D is considered to be a very important nutrient. It plays a very important role in the development and maintenance of the bones of human body. Deficiency of vitamin D can cause several complications in the bone health such as rickets and osteomalacia.

Why athletes require vitamin D?
Vitamin D is vital for all human beings, but in the case of athletes, it is even more important. Athletes require stronger bones than normal people because they are subjected to much more physical exercise and stress. Athletes depend on their bones and their strength to perform well. Runners, gymnasts and all kinds of athletes who utilize their limbs require strong and healthy bones, in order to be more strong and stable and also for being less prone to bone injuries. Weak bones can easily crack or break during the activities carried out by an athlete and thus enough supply of vitamin D is very essential for the athletes. Stronger bones would enhance their overall body strength, which would have a positive effect on their performance.

In athletes, the limbs are subjected to extreme exertion and a lot of extra pressure is put on the bones. Proper vitamin D enrichment would make the bones function more efficiently. For all these reasons, proper intake of vitamin D is very essential, especially for athletes.

A primary source of vitamin D is sunlight. Adequate exposure to sunlight enriches you with vitamin D. Many athletes have to perform in severe heat conditions under a very bright sun, where direct exposure for a long time may cause sunburns. To avoid these, many athletes apply sunscreen to cover their exposed skin. Using sunscreen forms a layer on the skin through which sunlight cannot penetrate and thus the supply of vitamin D is restricted. Hence, athletes require more vitamin D from other sources.

How to get enough vitamin D?
To keep the bones extra strong and healthy, athletes should intake enough vitamin D. The major sources of vitamin D include:

  1. Natural vitamin D rich foods should be consumed regularly, which include fatty fish like salmon and mackerel, fish liver oil, egg yolks, beef liver and cheese. Food items fortified with vitamin D should also be consumed. They are orange juice, milk, yogurt and some cereals.
  2. Exposure to the sun is very important as the sunlight is rich in vitamin D. The exposure of the face, arms, back and legs to direct sunlight during mid-day, without using a sunscreen should be practised.

Vitamin D is responsible for keeping the bones strong and healthy. This is why athletes require sufficient vitamin D for better performance. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

HAIR Hair fall could b significant or just physiological without any systemic involvement. Firstly, don't stress over it. Meditate. Practice yoga. Relax yourself. Stress vil increase your hairfall. Drink two litres of water. Eat plenty of pulses, meat, fish and milk. Avoid hair cosmetics. Wash hair twice or thrice a week. Shampoo should be done to wash dirt, dust and grime and not for anything else. Don't use dyes, bleaches or straighteners. Massage scalp to improve circulation. After a bath, don't blow dry your hair instead naturally dry hair. If any scalp infection, get it treated. Any allergy should be taken care of. 1.tab biotin daily for 1 month 2.tab fe ( if your fe level is reeduce ) 3.scalp massage with antioxidant oil

Hello- the problem is due to your excessive masturbation in the past. >start ayurvedic medicines asap. In the mean while follow these tips 1. Practice kegel exercise daily. For pain take tablet paracetamol only and Avoid spicy food in your diet and exercise regularly and also start with Tablet folvite 5mg once a day for six months and tablet vitamin D3 60000iu once a week for six months

Hi I will prescribe some harmless but effective flower remedy available in homoeopathy shops. Try to buy original medicines. Hi Take pranacharya allergin capsule 1-1 twice a day. And pranacharya sheetal syrup 2-2 tsf twice a day. Avoid tea. Coffee.junk food. Spicy food. Fermented food. Walk for atleast 30 minutes a day. Do pranayama early morning. Avoid alcohol consumption. Drink 8-10 glasses of water per day.

HI AS PER YOUR QUERY you are suffering from fever, before taking any medicine ,some la b tests are required i.e. CBC, MP, WIDAL,URINE. AFTER LAB TEST, which type of fever you are suffering viral or bacterial acording to that you should take medicine. Bed rest, and take liquid diet.

Dear Lybrate User, The size of penis depends on four factors:- 1) HEIGHT OF THE PERSON :- Every organ of a taller person posses greater dimension than those of a shorter person. 2) TESTOSTERONE HORMONE:- Less secretion of this hormone leads to underdevelopment of sexual organs 3) SEXUAL DISEASES:- Patients suffering from Erectile dysfunction often complaints of short penis. 4) FATTY TUMMY:- With every increase of 6 kg in weight, the waistline is increased up to 2 cm. This fatty layer of abdomen conceals 2 cm of the length of penis by surrounding it. The minimum size of an erected penis required for intercourse is 3 inches. A penis is composed of three highly vascular muscles namely two Corpus Cavernosus muscles & one Corpus Spongiosum muscle. In normal condition when an individual undergoes sexual arousal blood flow is directed towards those muscles of penis. As a result the muscles of penis gets pumped up & increase in size. Dear patient, calorie dense food should be incorporated in your diet like dried fruits, potato, sweets, nuts, jam jelly, banana or mango shake, porridge, badam kheer etc. leafy vegetables should be restricted in your diet as they reduce appetite. you should take 3 major meals a day and snacks in between. butter, margarine should be taken.
