How Looks and Health Go Hand in Hand?

Dermatologist
Dermatologist, Delhi
How Looks and Health Go Hand in Hand?

In today’s technology savvy and jet speed lifestyle, stress and tensions become part of our lives. However, you cannot afford to reflect all that stress on neither your looks nor your health.  The world has become very materialistic and judgmental to comment about you just based on your looks. So it becomes important to maintain good looks and personality to maintain a good public image. In addition, your looks, personality and health are the key factors that let you keep in pace with your career, your family, your friends and other relationships.

However, when we talk about looks we cannot miss on the topic of health as they both go hand in hand. They are a kind of relationship, which has to be mutual. You cannot have either one of it alone. Because on one hand looks represent your outer persona the health takes over for your inner persona and if you are not healthy you do not look good and looking good without being healthy is also meaningless.

So both these things are inter related and inter dependent. Having good looks along with being healthy is important and for that, one has to be taking regular and diligent efforts. There is no short cut to looks and health and even if ones opt for taking the short cut then there should be preparation in the background to face problems in the long run.

What is the point of looking shortly beautiful and then regretting those moments for the rest of your life? So better, go for a plan take may take time to show results but those results to have long run benefits.

However, when we talk about looks we cannot miss on the topic of health as they both go hand in hand.

If you wish to look good by looking slim and trim and for that you go on fasts and start eating only protein products or if you opt for weight reducing pills then you my friend are ruining and exploiting your body.

Trying to reduce weight is good but the method for it matters even more. The basic things you need to do is cut down on oil, spices, foods with high calories and sugar.

Another thing that needs to be taken care of is a balanced and regular meal. You should have a meal with proper amount of carbohydrate, proteins, fats and vitamins and all these meals should be taken at proper intervals.

All you need is some more care and love for your looks as well as health.

STDs - Why Timely Examination Is Important?

STDs - Why Timely Examination Is Important?

An STD or sexually transmitted disease is usually an infection which spreads from one person to another during sexual contact. Some STDs can also be transferred through touch, since they spread by skin contact. People hardly like to talk or discuss about STDs, but it is very important to rule out the possibilities of STD. Whether one likes it or not, if STD testing is ignored, then it can lead to long-term consequences.

Why STD Testing is Important?

Often STDs have no signs and symptoms, and the only way to know that are you suffering from an STD is to get tested for it. So it is a good idea to get yourself tested, as you never know if you might have STD even though you don't show symptoms. Also, when STDs are diagnosed, most of them can be cured.

Consequences of not Getting Tested

If one has STD and is not getting tested for the same, then it could lead to health problems which can cause permanent damages or might prove to be fatal. Some of the problems are:

  1. Undiagnosed and untreated STDs can lead to damaged reproductive system, leading to sterile men and women.
  2. Chlamydia, if untreated can lead to epididymitis and shrinkage of testicles and infertility in men. It also leads to pelvic inflammatory disease. But, good news is, it can be treated easily.
  3. Syphilis can make a person blind and deaf, and can also be passed on to babies.
  4. Gonorrhea, which can also be treated easily with antibiotics, can lead to infertility or death if untreated.
  5. Even HIV/AIDS if diagnosed in early stages can enable the patient to lead a normal life and does not mean only death, contrary to conventional perceptions.

Symptoms of STD

While, gonorrhea, chlamydia and human papilloma virus (HPV) have no symptoms, the common symptoms of STDs might vary.

  1. In women, the common symptoms are pain and burning sensation during urination, blood in vaginal discharge as also abnormal vaginal discharge, abdominal pain, blisters, warts, and swollen glands.
  2. Men often experience inflammation of the testicles, prostate, sores, fever, urethral discharge and pain during urination.

If these symptoms are observed, it is vital to get tested for STDs. Also, the best way to protect your partner is not to practice unsafe sex and to refrain from the same until diagnosed and treatment is complete.

Getting yourself tested for STD is also beneficial, as it can prevent against complications like cancers and infertility. The standard STD panel of tests consists of Herpes IgG antibody and HIV antibody blood tests, along with a blood test for syphilis antibody and DNA urine test for gonorrhea and Chlamydia. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Gynaecologist.

I am 21 years old. I have problem in my teeth since 2 month, my teeth get sensitised. Please help me

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

I am 21 years old. I have problem in my teeth since 2 month, my teeth get sensitised. Please help me
A major cause of tooth sensitivity is root exposure. We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need cleaning along with desensitizing procedures and / or artificial enamel filling or root canal treatment. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. Until then apply a desensitizing paste (sensodyne tooth paste) on the teeth. Wait for 10 to 15 min until you brush your teeth with the same paste. Applying it overnight will be better. Advance procedures can be done with laser. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

Hi i m 20 female. Suddenly my periods have become irregular and my stomach feels bloated (on normal days too) .Is there any connection between the two?

Vaidya Visharad
Sexologist, Narnaul
Hello Dear,Periods occur when the egg formed during each menstrual cycle in the female body is not fertilized and hence ejected out of the reproductive system along with blood and several other tissue cells. The duration of each menstrual cycle is about 28 days Most women will experience their monthly period right from the time they are 13 to the time they are 50. For many women, their monthly period is nothing more than an annoyance; but other women may suffer some problems.

Hello lybrate-user, went through your post and can imagine your plight for the last 20 days. Still I do not know how old are you and are you married. You were exposed to unprotected sex some 7 months ago. What circumstances made you get the test done now. However it does not take 20 says to get the result. Still you may be having some anxiety about the test result and and whether what if you still have hiv. Inspite of obtaing a safe result your persistent symptoms suggest adjustment disorder due to the fear of hiv. I think you need treatment for mixed anxiety and depressive disorder. Better consult a psychiatrist to clarify further doubts and for treatment.

I am 18 years old and i am just 38 years old please tell me how to gain weight?
Chew the food properly to improve digestion. Avoid excessive intake of beverages such as coffee and tea immediately after meals, as this hinders the absorption of minerals like iron. Keep a track of your weight gain. Eat more often milk is a great source of protein and carbohydrates, along with many other nutrients making it great for weight gain. A 100 ml serving contains around 3.4g of protein and if you drink 2 glasses every day, you would have consumed 14g of protein. Eggs too are a great source of protein, with 100 g containing as much as 13 g of protein. They are also loaded with several vitamins like vitamin a and vitamin b12.

The problem in your case seems to be a combination of inferiority complex and lack of self confidence. People speak about everyone. The way we look at it is important. Try this very simple and effective exercise to improve your confidence and esteem stand in front of the mirror. Keep your shoulder straight, chest high, chin slightly lifted up. Say to yourself aloud - I am a smart and confident woman. I have many talents and people respect me for that. Say this out aloud ten times. This will help improve your confidence greatly also start engaging yourself in any sort of work that you love doing like, embroidery, stitching, knitting, cooking - anything that you love doing and are talented in. This will help keep you occupied and take you away from the negative thoughts the advice that I have given you is based on what you have told me. There are many more such remedies in psychotherapy. Loosing 50 to 100 strands of hair on daily basis is normal. As growth: fall ratio is 80: 20.20 %of hair are always in fall phase and they will come out while doing all these processes. If the hair comes out even on slightest touch or hair has fallen on pillow then it is considered as hair fall. It is important to understand the status of hair follicle along with ratio of growth and fall. Oil the scalp 3/week and wash it 3/week. This will take care of scaling. If hair fall and scaling doesn't settle then consult trichologist.
