Hi Dr. I have been suffering from excessive hand (only palms of hand) and feet sweating since last 3 yrs. Initially sometimes its automatically appears and sometime it disappears without any remedy and medication. Usually it appears or intensifies during my exam days. Or in tensed and pressuerefull situations. Healthy Heart Tips :

1.Give up smoking

If you're a smoker, quit. It's the single best thing you can do for your heart health.
Smoking is one of the main causes of coronary heart disease. A year after giving up, your risk of a heart attack falls to about half that of a smoker.
You're more likely to stop smoking for good if you use NHS stop smoking services.

2.Get active

Getting – and staying – active can reduce your risk of developing heart disease. It can also be a great mood booster and stress buster.
Do moderate-intensity aerobic activity every week. One way to achieve this target is by doing 30 minutes of activity on five days a week. Fit it in where you can, such as by cycling to work.

3.Manage your weight

Being overweight can increase your risk of heart disease. Stick to a healthy, balanced diet low in fat and sugar, with plenty of fruit and vegetables, combined with regular physical activity.
Find out if you are a healthy weight with the BMI calculator. If you're overweight, try our 12-week weight loss plan.

4.Eat more fibre

Eat plenty of fibre to help lower your risk of heart disease – aim for at least 30g a day. Eat fibre from a variety of sources, such as wholemeal bread, bran, oats and wholegrain cereals, potatoes with their skins on, and plenty of fruit and veg.
Cut down on saturated fat
Eating too many foods that are high in saturated fat can raise the level of cholesterol in your blood. This increases your risk of heart disease. Choose leaner cuts of meat and lower-fat dairy products like 1% fat milk over full-fat (or whole) milk.

Get your 5 A DAY
Eat at least five portions of a variety of fruit and vegetables a day. They're a good source of fibre, vitamins and minerals. There are lots of tasty ways to get your 5 A DAY, like adding chopped fruit to cereal or including vegetables in your pasta sauces and curries. Get more 5 A DAY fruit and veg tips.

5.Cut down on salt

To maintain healthy blood pressure, avoid using salt at the table and try adding less to your cooking. Once you get used to the taste of food without added salt, you can cut it out completely.
Watch out for high salt levels in ready-made foods. Most of the salt we eat is already in the foods we buy. Check the food labels – a food is high in salt if it has more than 1.5g salt (or 0.6g sodium) per 100g. Adults should eat less than 6g of salt a day in total – that's about one teaspoon.

6.Eat fish
Eat fish at least twice a week, including a portion of oily fish. Fish such as mackerel, sardines, fresh tuna and salmon are a source of omega-3 fats, which can help protect against heart disease.
Pregnant or breastfeeding women shouldn't have more than two portions of oily fish a week.

7.Drink less alcohol

Don't forget alcohol contains calories. Regularly drinking more than the NHS recommends can have a noticeable impact on your waistline. Try to keep to the recommended daily alcohol limits to reduce the risk of serious problems with your health, including risks to your heart health.

8.Read the food label

When shopping, it's a good idea to look at the label on food and drink packaging to see how many calories and how much fat, salt and sugar the product contains. Understanding what is in food and how it fits in with the rest of your diet will help you make healthier choices.

Lybrate-user, most of the symptoms of hypothyroidism including lack of energy and weight increase will be in check once tsh levels are brought down to 3 to 4 mu/l. So you will have to check tsh levels after 6 weeks of treatment, if levels are down to as mentioned above, then present dose is adequate if levels are still high then there is a need for an increase in the dose of thyroxine. Plus you have grade 1 obesity with a bmi of 32.14 kgs / m2 (normal <23 kg / m2). This also adds to the problem. Hence, apart from regular treatment and diet control you will have to work to reduce weight (ideal body weight 67 kgs). Thanks.

hello your fasting sugar is borderline normal and after food sugar is mildly high. but dont start diabetic medicine. keep your bowel clear. take triphala choorna 5 gm with warm water at night. check blood sugar after 15 days

I am 21 years old male. I twisted my ankle today in the morning while playing football. The ankle joint has now got swollen and I am having pain while walking. I live in my hostel room which is at third floor. What should I do for treating this injury?

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. We will have to rule out any bony injury in your ankle and for that you need to get your ankle x ray ( ap & lateral views) because management changes if there is a bony injury. Till the time x ray is done: - please elevate your limb over pillow so that swelling decreases - intensive ice packs should be done ( 3-4 times in a day ) to keep swelling down - compression with crepe bandage should be given you can take otc analgesic which suits you like paracetamol, ibuprofen etc. Kindly send me your x rays as soon as possible so that I can advise you regarding further treatment measures. Also avoid putting weight on affected ankle till the time x rays rule out a bony injury, also ligament injuries around the ankle needs to be taken seriously, so proper management is required in either case. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

My 4 years old son is currently taking Colonodine for hyperactivity, he takes a half of 1 mg, twice a day. The pharmacist mistakingly gave him someone else's medication, Lisinopril 20 mg. I saw it was wrong and did not give it to him. My question is, What would have happened to my son had I given it to him? I'm furious with the pharmacy and plan to discuss this with them.

Dear friend lisinopril is used for high bp and for cardiac diseases. After giving this medicine he might be having low bp for a day or two but rarely fatal. My suggestion is you should surely warn him for the mistake but taking legal action will not serve anything. As he is also a human being and mistakes are bound to happen if you do something. It does carry legal liability only if it is done deliberately to harm your child.

My Brother in law is suffering from a typhoid fever, four days back they came to know about this disease , Doctor prescribed ZATHRIN 500 MG, OFLAXCIN 200, THEY HAD NOT CAUGHT IN FEVER FOR LAST TWO DAYS, BUT NOW TODAY THEY AGAIN CAUGHT WITH A FEVER OF 100 DEGREE CEL. PLEASE ADVICE. WHY FEVER AGAIN?

Menses can get delayed by hormonal changes or stress. As your weight is 71 kg, it may be responsible for the hormonal changes and delay in periods. You can wait for another month to get your menses before you seek any medical help. In the meantime start reducing weight and you may be suffering from pcod if this problem of delayed menses r happening again and again.

You should not accept diagnosis from any doctor minus proof, specially if the diagnosis is as scary as problem in the walls of heart. Get yourself examined for heart, ecg, echo. If reports are normal, at 32 you can use prevention, so as not to suffer a heart disease in future.

Hello lybrate-user it's very good to be proactive to live a healthy life. It depends very much on your food intake and lifestyle. Do regular exercise. Eat less oily and spicy food. Decrease your sugar intake. Drink lots of water. Eat fruits and leafy vegetables. To keep liver healthy eat 1. Avacado that contains antioxidant glutathione. 2. Garlic contains sulfar, decrease cholesterol and inflammation. 3. Turmaric 4grapes 5spinach 6citrus fruits like oranges and lemon. For heart 1. Green leafy vegetables 2oats 3whole grains 4soy protein 5olive oil 6tomatoes 7apples 8dry fruits like almonds, pista 9red wine 10. Flax seeds 11.
