Symptoms and Treatment of Scabies

Infestation on the skin caused by a tiny insect called Sarcoptes scabiei, which live on the skin up to 2 months, is called Scabies. Reproduction occurs on the surface of the skin and later they tunnel into the skin and lay eggs. This forms an extremely irritated, pimple-like rash structure on the skin.

Despite the fact that scabies can be troublesome, the infestation can usually be dealt with successfully. Treatment commonly comprises of drugs that eliminate the scabies parasites and their eggs. Since scabies is so infectious, specialists usually prescribe treatment for a whole gathering of individuals who come in successive contact with people having scabies.

Symptoms: Typical symptoms such as rashes and intense itching, appear up to 6 weeks since initial exposure. Infected sores, which may require additional treatment, are formed due to continuous scratching. Common sites for occurrence in babies are head, neck, face and hands while in adults, it occurs on the wrist, elbow, waist, penis, armpits, etc. The rash comprises of small blisters or pimple-like knocks which are the tunnel tracks of the mite apparent on the skin.

A more severe form of the condition, called crusted scabies may be developed in some people. This condition which is highly contagious is marked by thick crusts containing thousands of eggs and mites which developed on the skin. It usually occurs in people with weak immune systems. The mites are capable of overpowering the immune system and multiplying at a higher rate.

Treatment: Typical treatment includes disposing of the infestation with medicine balms, creams, and moisturizers. It is advisable to apply the cream all over the body and at night, when the mites are active.
Amid the main week of treatment, it might appear as though the symptoms are worsening. Nonetheless, after the initial week, you'll see less tingling and you should have recovered by the fourth week of treatment.

Precautions should be taken to prevent re-infestation as the mites are capable of living up to 72 hours after being abolished from the body. All clothing must be washed with hot water (122F). This should be followed by drying of the items at a high temperature for half an hour. Finally, the dried items should be vacuumed.

Get breast examination done to see any problems with nipple. U need to see a pediatrician to check if the suck of baby is good. Or is there any other problem. Be confident and stick to breast feeding. If the baby is not gaining weight then alternative s like formula milk needs to be started.

My grandson is 12yrs old he is diebtic type one takes insulin twice a day tell any other remedy.

Insulin is only treatment and best treatment. No side effects. Also you should go for better regimes than this twice a day adult type regime. Give pediatric regimes of three times a day if you want to avoid long term complications. Dont get fooled with anything other than insulin. There is nothing else consult a pediatric endocrinologist.

Your child may be down with viral fever (may be dengue or chickengunia). Sponge body for 30 minutes if temp is over 102 F. Complete bed rest with plenty of fluids & normal diet is advised. Paracetamol can be given to reduce fever & pain in extremities.

Breast feeding is best for your baby, formula feeding is just substitution. Colostrum is the so called" witch milk" that comes out from the mother's nipple for 2-3 days after child birth. It should definately be given to the baby as it is a rich source of immunoglobulins and anti-infective factors for the baby. Burp your child everytime after a feed.Motherhood has to be enjoyed rather than a duty to fulfill.

What is cpld food? Then what shall I give to my lactose intolerant 10 month old baby.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
What is cpld food? Then what shall I give to my lactose intolerant 10 month old baby.
If you have already started your baby on solid foods, you can cut down on dairy other than your breastmilk. But curd is fine as it does not contain any lactase. So you can prepare a nice lassi for your little one or give him some raita. Those who are lactose intolerant can often handle small amounts of dairy if they eat it with other foods. If you are formula feeding, your doctor may advise you to switch to a lactose-free or soya based formula for two weeks or so as your baby gets over his lactose intolerence. If your child is older and tests have confirmed he is lactose intolerant, then you may have to make some dietary changes like: Feeding reduced portions of dairy-based foods in combination with non-dairy foods. Not giving a large glass of milk and offering a small portion along with a meal to aid digestion. Choosing foods with less lactose such as curd, paneer and hard cheeses, as they are better tolerated. Substituting milk with soyamilk, almond milk, rice milk or fortified fruit juices. Substituting dairy products with leafy greens, tofu, broccoli, nuts, soya beans, dried fruit. Before you make any changes to your child's diet, always consult a dietitian or a doctor. They can help you plan better. In order to maintain a normal healthy metabolism, everything we eat or drink should be close to our body’s normal temperature. However, particularly in hot weather or as a matter of habit, almost everyone likes to drink cold beverages or eat cold foods (like ice cream) without noticing the potential problems that will be encountered or connecting it to the temperature of the food or drink you take into your body.

By 2.5, child is expected to talk in sentences but some exceptions are possible. You need to get the developmental assessment done in detail if he has issue with concentration OR is he always on the run OR do you feel he doesn't respond to name call OR if he doesn't maintain eye contact while interacting with you all. If you can share a small video of his I might be able to guide.

My grandson aged nine weeks old has not passed stool since ten days. He is breast fead, normal and weighed 5 kgs. He is quite normal active and has no other problems. Please let me know what to do for making him to pass stool.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
If he otherwise active there is no danger and breastfed babies may not pass motion for a week or more which is not problem. Ut if you are scared you can out a pediatric Dulcolax suppository in the anus and it will help pass motion. If this is a regular feature it will be advisable to do a thyroid screening by doing TSH test.

Hello lybrate-user Though you have not contacted me before taking this important decision of your life. I understand you want to reach your goals and must have done after loads of thinking. Being a child psychologist, this is very crucial time for a kid, in toilet training, language development and social & emotional upbringing. Rather, now keep track of your child's growth with video calls, meeting him often. But keep it upto yourself not to become emotional weak bfr others including child, not to criticize his caretakers etc.

Why Breastfeeding Is Important For Your Child?

MBBS, MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Mumbai
Why Breastfeeding Is Important For Your Child?

Breast milk provides essential nutrients for infants and is a mix of nutrients, which include vitamins, proteins and fat that are necessary for a baby's growth. Apart from benefitting babies, breastfeeding benefits mothers too.

Here are 5 benefits of breastfeeding:

  1. Provides nutrients and protection to the baby - The best food a mother can give to her baby is her breast milk. It helps your baby to grow and develop. Breast milk is custom-made by all mothers for their own babies and, thus, contains a perfect mix of essential nutrients. Breast milk contains a mixture of protein, carbohydrate, fat, vitamins and minerals, which are very important for the proper growth and development of the baby. It also contains many antibodies that reduce the chance of diseases and allergies. In fact, the milk's content changes as your baby grows to keep up with the infant's needs.
  2. Convenience - The milk from breasts is always safe and fresh, and is precisely of the right temperature, which what makes it a convenient food for the baby. What's more, it doesn't require heating, boiling or sterilizing as such; and can be fed to the baby anywhere, anytime.
  3. Benefits mothers - According to a research, breastfeeding, to an extent, provides protection against breast and ovarian cancer. It also serves as a measure of protection against weak bones in the later part of life. Calories are required in order to produce milk. So, breastfeeding helps to gradually lose weight after pregnancy as well. Moreover, breast feeding also defers the return of menstruation for a little while.
  4. Continues the special relationship between mother and child - The bond between a mother and a child strengthens due to the intimacy and the closeness involved in breastfeeding. One of the remarkable facts about this is the more a baby breastfeeds, the more milk the mother produces.
  5. Reduces the risk of obesity: It reduces the risk of allergic diseases and obesity in children during infancy and their life ahead. Barker hypothesis says that there is a possibility of fetal origin of adult diseases, so early obesity may predispose child to diabetes and hypertension in later life which decreases significantly with breastfeeding. Ideal situation is exclusive breast feeding till 4-6 moths followed by a phase of complimentary feeding with breastfeeding and to continue breastfeeding till 2 yrs and beyond. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Pediatrician.
