In diabetes frozen shoulder as well as erectile dysfunction occur as a complication of the disease. First thing is you have to achieve a stricter control of blood sugar to prevent complications. For frozen shoulder please consult a physiotherapist and follow the instructions. For erectile dysfunction if you not yet taken tab viagra please try 50 mg about 1 h before intended contact. It should help.

Are there any long-term effects associated with taking ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) medications? If so, what are they and what medications are implicated? What exactly is a spine block injection? Will it work long-term for low back pain due to disc problems? What causes Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and what is the best method of treatment? Use of stimulant decreases the symptoms to a much good effect and if we don't give stimulant medication there will be more of conduct disorder and progress in disease and for side effects we have to monitor the person and advice them accordingly and spine block injection is effective for six months.

Hi, your issues/ symptoms as you describe point towards some mineral/ vitamin deficiency unless there is some other issue that requires to be clinically examined/ investigated. I would advise you to consult a general physician in person who can discuss with you and advise tests suitably to see if you are deficient in something, especially need to check your calcium & vitamin d levels. At the same time, ensure that you have balanced diet and a streamlined lifestyle. Exercise/ walk daily in fresh air for about 30 minutes and relax/ de-stress regularly. Exposure to early morning sun rays for 5 to 10 minutes daily helps replenish the vitamin d levels. In case you are a student still, set realistic goals and give your best while being focussed on your present. Its extremely important that you relax/ de-stress intermittently so that you stay engaged and do not get fatigued. It is advisable to avoid oily and fried stuff. Rather, consume more of fresh fruits & vegetables and stay hydrated. Drink 8 - 10 glasses of water daily. Cheese, yogurt, fish, fortified orange juice, soybeans, whole grain cereals, leafy greens are a few food items that you can include in your menu. Hope this helps. You may still connect with me for a detailed discussion should you require. All the very best. Sincerely

Hot & Cold Therapy - How It Can Treat Pain?

MD-Anesthesiology, MBBS , F.I.PM, Fellow in Endoscopic Spine Surgery
Pain Management Specialist, Ahmedabad
Hot & Cold Therapy - How It Can Treat Pain?

Hot and Cold therapy is one of the most popular home remedies for any kind of joint pain or muscle sprain. In some cases applying heat therapy and cold therapy alternatively, can help relieve the pain while for others only one form of therapy is necessary. To understand what to use when, one should first understand the effect of heat and cooling on the body.

Applying a heat pack or immersing the affected limb in hot water improves blood circulation and makes the muscles more flexible. Thus, it can help relax a muscle and fasten the healing of damaged tissues. On the other hand, cold therapy or cryotherapy reduces blood flow to the affected site. This helps relieve inflammation and pain caused by it. It can also make the area feel numb by reducing nerve activity temporarily.

Types of Heat Therapy
Heat therapy can be categorized as dry heat and moist heat. Dry heat involves using saunas or dry heating packs to relieve pain. This is also known as conducted heat therapy. As the name suggests, moist heat involves the use of steamed towels, hot baths and moist heating packs. This is also known as convection heat therapy. Moist heat is usually considered more effective than dry heat.

Types of Cold Therapy
Cold therapy may be applied to a part of the body or to the entire body. This includes ice packs, coolant sprays, ice baths, ice massages and whole body, cold therapy chambers.

How to use heat and cold therapy?
The sooner heat and cold therapy is given to a person, the faster they will recover from their pains. Heat therapy can be given to a person for extended periods of time but when giving cold therapy, a person should not be exposed to a cold pack or ice bath for more than 10-15 minutes. Care should also be taken no to apply ice or a frozen pack directly on the skin as it can damage the skin and nerves.

When not to use Heat Therapy?
If the injury site is swollen or bruised, cold therapy is better than heat therapy. Heat therapy should also not be applied to an open wound. People suffering from conditions such as diabetes, dermatitis, deep vein thrombosis, vascular diseases and multiple sclerosis should also avoid heat therapy as these conditions can increase the risk of burns and other such complications. Pregnant women should also consult a doctor before using a hot tub or sauna.

When not to use Cold Therapy?
Cold therapy is avoidable for treating stiff joints and muscles. People suffering from poor circulation and sensory disorders should also avoid using cold therapy without a doctor’s supervision. If you wish to discuss any specific problem, you can consult a pain management specialist.

Dear lybrate user, backache after sitting for longer period suggestive of wither of 2 problem. 1- disc herniation which is more likely & 2- facetal arthritis which is less likely. Kindly get mri of lumbosacral spine done & consult a interventional pain specialist or orthopedician trained in spine. I'm sure your diagnosis will be confirmed as diagnosing back pain is not easy due to different small anatomical structure, hence advise will be to visit any of the above mentioned specialist. Once diagnosis is made it can be tested, else you'll keep on taking pain killers to suppress pain but disease can't be treated this way. Hope this will guide you better.

Low back pain can be due to many different causes such as muscular, disc/spondylosis, joint/degenerative arthritis or in young people due to poor posture and weak abdominal and back muscles. Try simple stretching exercises for the low back and leg muscles. Use alternate ice packs and hot water fermentation over painful area as tolerated. Sleep over firm mattress, not too soft and not very hard. Be aware of your posture throughout the day. If pain persists then consult a orthopaedic physiotherapist. Good luck for quick recovery. Try core stability exercises to strengthen back abdominals and hip muscles.

Hi I am Dr. Saurabh gupta from max hospital and I would like to answer your query. It is due to nerve compression. You need to get an mri scan of the area done. Meanwhile you can follow these measures: - if the pain is severe, you need bed rest till the pain resolves. - get some analgesics prescribed and apply analgesic spray or ointments. - while resting, keep a pillow under your knees if it doesn't bother you. - avoid lifting heavy objects. - back strengthening exercises and stretching exercises daily as advised by a physiotherapist. - avoid exercises in times of pain. - improvise your posture while sitting. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation.
