Does eating 6 to 7 bananas with regular meal will help me in increasing the weight and bulkness in my body.

MSc
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Hyderabad
Does eating 6 to 7 bananas with regular meal will help me in increasing the weight and bulkness in my body.
Hi lybrate-user bananas are a great source of nutrients, providing your body with benefits that enhance your overall appearance: Bananas and your waistline Do bananas make you gain weight? No. They won’t. Don’t be afraid that a banana will make you fat; a normal banana contains about 150 calories max. The false interpretation that a banana makes you gain weight is commonly based on the fact that a banana contains a relative large amount of carbs, of which natural fruit sugars. These sugars are broken down into glucose, which provides your body with energy to move your leg, make a step, walk etc. That’s a good thing! Did you know your brain can’t even function without glucose? To keep it simple: to gain weight, you’ll need to eat more calories than you burn. I wrote an article about that here and here. You can imagine that a person who needs 2.500 kcal on a daily base, won’t gain weight over a banana. Perfect pre-workout snack Your body directly uses the glucose, making a banana a perfect pre-workout snack. Let’s say you ate more bananas and thereby taking in more glucose than you need right away: your body stores the glucose as glycogen in your muscles and liver, saving it for energy later on. Making it more extreme, let’s say you ate more bananas and thereby took in more glucose than your liver and muscles can store at that moment: a remainder of glycogen is left, which will be stored as fat. As you can see, it’s all about portion control and/or using up energy if you want to keep your waistline slim; one banana at the time is enough. Tip: you’ll love this banana-coconut-peanutbutter snack! Bananas and wrinkles Due to its high values of vitamin A and vitamin C, a banana is a great anti-wrinkle food. Iron and B vitamins make a banana a great source of important minerals and vitamins for vegans and veggies. Banana is a mood booster The banana has positive mood influencing properties; it’s the tryptophan in it that makes you feel happy. So, if you are sensitive to (winter) depression or if you are moody in the morning, add a banana to your breakfast. You can cut up a banana and put it in your yogurt with some oats, for instance, use it to top your natural almond butter sandwich with or make a banana-yogurt-orange-flaxseed smoothie. Narcotic banana Bananas also contain a little bit of the hormone melatonin, which makes you sleepy in the evening. If you are having problems getting into sleep, indulge on eating a small banana 2 hours before going to bed. Nutritional value per banana: Kcal 105 Protein 1 Carbs 27 Fiber 3 Sugars 14 Fat 0 Vit A 2%* Vit C 17%* Based on a 2000 cal diet.

Hair Loss In Children - Why It Happens?

Diploma In Child Health (DCH), MBBS
Pediatrician, Gurgaon
Hair Loss In Children - Why It Happens?

Excessive hair fall, thinning of hair and bald spots are not only concerns of adults, children too suffer from hair woes. Look for signs and identify causes that are leading to your child's hair loss. With proper treatment hair loss can be reversed and your child's hair can be restored.

Symptoms
Look for these signs to determine whether your child is suffering from hair loss.
1. Bald patches on the head.
2. loss of hair from the entire body
3. Excessive hair loss but not complete fallout
4. Spots of broken hair and scattered hair loss

Causes
1. Alopecia areata.- This condition results in oval patches of hair fallout from certain portions of the head. It is a noncontiguous condition that appears when the body's immunization attacks the hair follicles. About 25% of affected kids also suffer from ridging nails.
2. Tinea capitis- Also known as ringworms of the scalp, this is a type of fungal infections that are often seen in children. It causes oval shaped scaly spots on the head due to breakage of hair and the remaining roots seem like black spots.

3. Telogen effluvium- If your child has undergone some kind of trauma, be it physical or psychological, it can cause the hair follicles to enter into the resting phase and within 6 to 16 weeks excessive hair loss occurs leaving your child partially bald.
4. Trichotillomania-Stress or anxiety can cause your child to pullout his/her own hair. This results in scattered hair loss and broken hair which is prominent on the sides of the head.
5. Lack of nutrients- Nutritional deficiency can cause hair loss, if your child lacks vitamin A, B complex and biotin it can trigger hair fall.

Hair fall in children is common and treatable if they are of medical causes. Sometimes rubbing and playing with hair can also cause hair loss so parents are advised to look into all the probable causes that might lead to shedding

What should I do to cure pimples. Which medicines should I take to get rid of it.

What should I do to cure pimples. Which medicines should I take to get rid of it.
Dear Lybrate User, *Aloe Vera is a cactus like plant with anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-septic, astringent and a lot more useful medicinal properties. It can be used in a lot of ways- as a moisturizer, a face mask, shaving oil or it can also be included in your diet. Aloe Vera can work wonders for treating and preventing acne as it removes excess oil and dirt from the skin. It stimulates the cell growth, and helps the damaged skin for healing faster. *if all else fails then this can be your backup plan. There is a huge variety of anti-acne products- face washes, creams, face packs etc., available in the market these days. Search a little, find a product that will best suit your skin type and give it a try. If still your pimples are unlikely to go away then don’t hesitate from going to a dermatologist. *Avoid more salty, dry, maida related junk foods, more tea, coffee. *Consume more fresh fruit juice. *Practice yoga, meditation, breathing exercise.

I am anjali (18 years old), suffering from major depression since last two-three years, scored 87 in goldberg's depression test and this year was the worst of all I somehow suffered from hypomania as I learned about its symptoms now online. I am not able to judge my awkward behaviour. I even had anxiety attacks not very much but more than rare. Depression took place from last three to four years back leading me to live all alone without telling anyone about my problems as ultimately no one believes in what I say. And everyone including my family members tend to say I talk rubbish, can never stick to a point while explaining something. It lead to me with poor results in school, family and everywhere and all over I am trying to get rid of this disgusting life and tried to commit suicide from last two years but unfortunately I am not able to judge my unusual behaviour which makes me a fool in front of everyone and no one is able to get my awkward behaviour. I always forget things happen just a minute before, have racing thoughts in my mind, always lack self confidence and become nervous but I don't know how I become so much active and become overconfident, excessively cry always but sometimes I laugh excessively and try to joke poorly and realize afterwards what have I done in front of everyone. I am totally confused about me and my life. Even while trying to get rid of this life I think that after this also everyone will blame me of being responsible for all this. What should I do? Please help me out.

Dear lybrate-user, Probably you are suffering from a Bipolar Disorder which has 4 different phases in the same person. 1. Depression - as you have suffered 2. Hypomania or mania - as you have self diagnosed at present. 3. Mixed phase - both depressive and manic symptoms occur together for few days and 4. Normal phase. Instead of taking only a depression scale, please take a Bipolar scale. Since you are only 18 years, psychiatrists may not diagnose without family history or disturbances in your life due to mood changes, etc. Kindly consult a psychiatrist preferably with your parents and get diagnosed. Bipolar disorder can be treated with long term mood stabiliser tablets to improve your quality of life.
