What is permanent solution of diabetic disease?

PGDD, RD
Dietitian/Nutritionist,
What is permanent solution of diabetic disease?
For a diabetic it is best advised to have a diet planned as per the sugar levels, lifestyle and history. Though you can follow some guidelines - Have small frequent meals. Do not fast for long hours. Avoid a very heavy meal at one time. Avoid fruit juices, aerated drinks or sugarcane juice, honey, jaggery or sugar. Avoid junk foods. Exercise and stay active. Do not attempt to try out too many remedies as you could go into hypoglycaemia. Sleep well. It's all a matter of discipline.

I did my first test for pregnancy using test kit. To reconfirm I have done it twice and it seems I have conceived now. With this I am facing few following symptoms. My belly bloated although it is only 10-15 days after I conceived. Is it normal or any kind of complications. Waiting for valuations suggestions. Thanks, Tapaswini.

If there r two lines on the test, then only it is positive. During pregnancy, progesterone hormone is secreted by the pregnancy, which causes, water retention in the body giving you the bloated feeling. All this is temporary and will go in few weeks time without any treatment. But you need to start taking folic acid tablets and do the sonography asap.

Take 11 guava leaves, 11 black pepper, 1 cup milk and one cup water. Put all of them in pot and boil it well, when it reduced to one cup, drink in empty stomach. Take this daily for at least six months or a year. Boil cumin seeds in water and inhale the steam. It helps dilate the bronchial passage. Take 5 gm of ginger, black pepper, cardamom, clove, cinnamon, turmeric and 30 gm of sugar. Grind the mix to a powder. Take half to one teaspoonful and mix it nicely with honey. Take it twice a day. Also herbal medicines can help to get relief from asthma upto 80%.

I have been suffering from internal haemorrhoids since last 3 yrs. I have been taking ayurvedic treatment to ease constipation and stool activity but the occurrence is always on and off. A gastroenterologist has suggested hemorrhoidectomy as its 3rd degree. I have rarely experienced bleeding but the discomfort and burn is present. I have tried all possible medications but it does not heal completely. I am afraid of the complications of surgery. Pls suggest.

Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help. Constipation is the key feature in all sorts of piles usually. What ayurvedic medications are you currently taking? well, I would recommend the following for relief - (a) streamline diet & lifestyle - focus on a balanced mediterranean diet preferrably, with adequate intake of water and roughage. Take at least 8 - 10 glasses of water daily (b) avoid flesh foods like chicken, meat, eggs etc all as these are likely to worsen constipation and consequently complicate issues still. High calorie food stuffs including sweets, cakes, pastries, greasy, oily, hot/ spicy & fast foods are best avoided too. Also restrict consumption of bananas till you get well. (c) take a glass of freshly prepared juice made of ripe'bael' fruit, sugar, black pepper, cardamom etc all, daily evening. (d) take freshly prepared butter milk daily. (e) take'pilex' (himalaya) - 2 tabs, twice daily, for 15 days (f) take'herbolax' (himalaya) - 2 caps, once daily post dinner, for 15 days. To be on a safer side, however, its advisable to not take herbal medications as referred in points (e) & (f) above, in case you are continuing with your already advised ayurvedic treatment. Hope this helps you get better soon. Take care and keep me posted. All the very best. Sincerely,

Hi soak 10 almonds over night in water. On the next day, peel off the skin, and blend the almonds in a blender with 1 cup of cow hot milk (or crush them in hot cow milk) and add a little bit of saffron, ginger and cardamon to it. Drink this every morning.

How to Treat Lactose Intolerance in Children

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), F.I.A.M.S. (Pediatrics)
Pediatrician, Muzaffarnagar
How to Treat Lactose Intolerance in Children

The sugar found in milk and other dairy products such as yoghurt and cheese is called lactose. An enzyme in the small intestine called “lactase” breaks lactose into galactose and glucose. When the lactose is not digested properly by the small intestine, it passes unbroken into the colon. The bacteria in the colon break the lactose down into hydrogen and carbon dioxide. People who fail to digest lactose in their small intestines are diagnosed with lactose intolerance.

Usually lactose intolerance only affects adults, but sometimes children do suffer from it. For children, their symptoms can be mild or very severe (for example, cramps, diarrhoea in children, etc.)
Normally, parents can confuse milk allergy with lactose intolerance. They do share the same symptoms, but they are completely different medical conditions. Milk allergy is caused by the immune system while lactose intolerance is a problem with the digestive system.

The causes of lactose intolerance include:
1. Absence or deficiency of the lactase enzyme
2. Infections in the gastrointestinal tract that damage the lining inside the small intestine
3. Gluten intolerance (It affects lactase production)
4. Genetics (Lactose intolerance can run in the family)

When the lactose is broken down in the colon, certain gases are produced. These gases can cause symptoms such as:
1. Abdominal inflammation and pain
2. Excessive burping
3. Loud sounds in the bowel
4. Excessive diarrhoea and gas
5. Explosive and watery bowel movements
6. A feeling of urgency when it comes to bowel movements (In children, they might feel like they need to get to the bathroom as soon as possible or they might embarrass themselves)

How best to treat it?
Living with lactose intolerance usually involves dietary modifications and taking supplements such as over-the-counter lactase to aid in digestion. For instance, you can replace milk with soy milk, or take lactase before ingesting any dairy product. Or alternatively, you can consume lactose-reduced or lactose-free milk and dairy products.
Calcium deficiency is a serious side effect of lactose intolerance. So incorporate calcium-rich foods such as broccoli, kale, tofu, almond, dried fruits, soybeans, turnip greens, collard greens and fortified orange juice in your diet.
