Facts and myths about cosmetic surgeries

I'm Dr. Vijay Kakkar. I'm a Senior Consultant in Cosmetic Surgeon. I'm attached to different hospitals like Max Hospital, Saroj Superspeciality Hospital and Mata Chanan Hospital in Janakpuri. Today I'll be discussing something about cosmetic surgery which most of the people are not aware what kind of surgery it is.

There is some basic difference between plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery.

In plastic surgery basically, we try to achieve normal things while in cosmetic surgery person is already normal and we're trying to achieve supernormal things. That says someone is having a nose which he wants to be very sharp and thin and to look extra smart so we change that. This comes under cosmetic surgery. Similarly, if somebody's having problems with the face like if the face is loose due to age, or having wrinkles on the face, ears are more prominent, chin is short, we can do all these changes to make a person look better. Similarly cosmetic surgery can be done on all parts of body, it can be cosmetic surgery of breasts, it can be tummy tuck like we do a different kind of liposuction in which we reduce body fat, in the breast segmentation we can increase size of breasts that can be done through implants or through draftings, then we can remove heavy, flabby bags from the person like if the arms are lost and hanging we can make them tightened with surgery, it becomes really good.

Similarly, all areas of the body can be tackled with cosmetic surgery and in cosmetic surgery we also cover the non-invasive kind of surgery like Botox, like the fillers, if there are any depressions in the person we can just do instant fillers and he can look much better, with Botox we can remove all the wrinkles. All these procedures are short procedures and they're called Lunch Hour surgeries or Office procedures. And if somebody is having baggy eyelids or lose eyelids and looks much older than his age we can do Blepharoplasty in the eyes and make him much younger and better looking. Then we've lasers in our armamentarium which can remove scars, which can make the face much younger and better. Then we also do a lot of Hair Transplants. In the hair transplant, we take the patients own hair from the back and put it in the front so that your look is improved and you look much younger. These are basically the kind of cosmetic surgeries which we do routinely every day.

If you want to know details or want to consult me you can contact me through Lybrate or you can come to my clinic in Janakpuri. It is C-2A, 236A, Janakpuri, New Delhi -58.

Is there any medicine to remove fordyce spot on lips? I don't want to go for laser treatment.

Is there any medicine to remove fordyce spot on lips? I don't want to go for laser treatment.
Fordyce Spots on lips are self resolving and benign. They usually get cured without any treatment and the health care specialists do not recommend any treatment for them. But for those people who find them unattractive and a concern cosmetically, there are plenty of treatment options available which accelerates the cure of such spots. 1. Trichloroacetic Acid Peel This chemical peel is a popular treatment for Fordyce spots. It peels off the skin on the spots, thereby causing significant improvement in their appearance. However if you use this on the lips, it is important to keep them moisturized. Also when the treatment is stopped, spots may reoccur. 2. Tretinoin Gel Another product which is found to be effective against Fordyce spots on lips is Tretinoin gel or cream. It reduces the prominence of the spots substantially. It is more effective if used with an alpha hydroxyacid agent. 3. Cryosurgery Cryosurgery is an option to treat Fordyce spots. Treatment should always be taken by a board certifies dermatologist.

Hi Dr, I m Anil das from navi Mumbai. I hva problem last 2 years. My skin some white. please helf me.
Turmeric is an ingredient that has hordes of antiseptic properties in it. Add a mixture of turmeric powder and a couple of teaspoons of mustard oil and apply it to the areas where you see white patches on your body. It will help in boosting your immune system. If there are a lot of areas in your body where you see white patches, then you need to increase the quantity of oil and turmeric powder accordingly. Apply this mixture to your skin twice daily. You need to use this continuously for a year to see visible and effective results.  Neem Extracts Neem is used to treat a lot of skin problems and it is said that it is a very good remedy for treating autoimmune disorders. All you need to do is to make a good powder of the dried leaves of the neem tree along with its dried flowers and fruits. You need to take one teaspoon of this powder mixture with a glass of water every day. It helps to fight immunity disorders and thereby help in reducing white patches on your skin. You can also make a fresh paste of the neem leaves with a little bit of water and apply it to he affected area. You need to rinse it off after ten to fifteen minutes. This remedy will greatly help in reducing white spots if used on a regular basis. Honey The anti fugal property in honey will take care of the fungus that causes the white patches on your skin. It will help your skin to glow and to retain its normal color. You need to first clean the affected area of your skin with soap and lukewarm water and then pat the area dry. Apply liquid honey on to the affected area and allow it to get absorbed by the skin fully to see good results after few weeks or months of application.

Dear lybrate-user, l4-5 extruded disc if giving you frequent problems, then it may need surgical excision. Had it been just disc bulge, non operative management would always suffice. Surgery or no surgery is your choice. Surgery will give you long term results. It may also settle down with rest and medicines.

How to remove wrinkles on face and make beautiful. Sir please give me answer I am very disappointed with it.

How to remove wrinkles on face and make beautiful. Sir please give me answer I am very disappointed with it.
Homoeopathic cream ANTIWRINKLE CREAM ( BAKSON) Apply in circular fashion twice a day 1. Avoid the sun and/or use a good sunscreen. Sun damage is well-known to wreak havoc upon the best of skin. All sun worshippers that do not take heed pay the price with lax, leathery skin before their time ~ not to mention the risk of many dangerous skin cancers. The sun screen should be o Broad-spectrum protection (protects against UVA and UVB rays). o Sun Protection Factor (SPF) 30 or greater. o Water resistance o Preferably Homoeopathic SUNCARE SUNSCREEN ( BAKSON). 2. Drink plenty of water. Water is what nourishes our cells…it is present in EVERY cell in our bodies. But, many people do not drink enough of this elixir! And, without proper hydration, skin will appear dull and listless ~ lacking the elasticity that gives us our youthful appearance. What is the proper amount of water to drink per day? This is a controversial subject, but I recommend 9 cups for women and 12.5 cups for men. 3. Do not bathe in hot water since this has a harmful effect on the skin integrity, damaging it and drying it out. 4. Use a good moisturizer! Preferably Homoeopathic ROSE MOISTURISER ( SBL) 5. Partaking in regular exercise can improve skin elasticity. It is recommended to have 30 minutes of aerobic exercise to improve circulation for the skin. This gives the benefit of feeding the skin and removing any waste products more effectively. Hence, you will have a more youthful skin. 6. Proteins make up the matrix of our cells and thus are very important for good collagen and elasticity. Eat these top proteins for good elasticity: almonds, peanut butter, salmon, sardines and eggs. 7. Luten an antioxidant found in egg yolks, spinach, and other leafy greens may improve skin elasticity by almost 20%. Lutein is also found in topical face products. 8. Fish oil capsules taken on a daily basis can do much for skin elasticity. This is very important if you are on a diet or have already lost a lot of weight…fish oil is one of your best weapons to combat laxity and looseness of the skin. But, be sure to follow the dosage directions on the label (and consult a physician before taking anything) since the wrong dose may be harmful or dangerous in bleeding disorders (or other medical conditions). 9. Also, it’s important to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables for good skin elasticity. And, of these ~ the best ones to eat are as follows: • Red Peppers • Oranges • Grapefruits • Strawberries • Broccoli • Carrots • Mango • Apricots • Sweet Potato • Avocados So, if you have lost elasticity due to poor habits or weight loss ~ the above list should give you a guide on how you may improve your skin starting TODAY. Or, if you are needing a preventative treatment against aging…these habits can take you down the road to a much happier, youthful skin! We don’t have to give in to mother nature, there are always variables we can manipulate to fight back against what our mothers and grandmothers had to endure ~ loose, sagging skin.

I am male I have 4 problems one is skin problem and face problem and pimple problem and I have a very good hair fall.

I am male I have 4 problems one is skin problem and face problem and pimple problem and I have a very good hair fall.
Hello. You forgot to write down your all the 4 problems in details For skin: What kind of skin problem? Type of eruptions/ discolouration? Any itching/ burning/ oozing from it? Since when it is there? Any family history? Where exactly it is (location)? It would be better if you can share a clear photo of the affected area for proper treatment to be started. For oily/ Pimpled skin: There are four main factors which causes acne: Oil production Dead skin cells Clogged pores Bacteria Factors that may worsen the acne: Androgen hormones, certain medications (drugs containing corticosteroids, androgens or lithium can worsen acne), dietary factors, including dairy products and carbohydrate-rich foods — such as bread, bagels and chips — may trigger acne and Stress can make acne worse. Management: Wash your face with Bakson's Facewash (wash your face with warm water only) and followed by CTMP, i.e., cleansing, toning, moisturising and protection (apply liberally Sunscreen Gel with SPF-30) after washing your face daily. Home-made remedies: - Take 1 tbsp of fuller's earth (multani mitti) + a dash of lime + bit of rosewater – apply this on your face till it gets dried up, then rinse it off. - Take 1 tsp of Alum (or fitkari), make it slightly wet with water and apply this on your wet face, spread it well; let it dry and rinse it off. Alum remove your excessive moisture or oil and it also tightens the skin's tonicity. Medication: You can take homoeopathic medicines – Berberis Aquefolium Q/ 10 drops in 1/2 cup of water/ thrice a day and Kali Brom. 200/ thrice a day – for 20 days. For Hairloss: Take diet rich in protein like non-veg., eggs, pulses, legumes, sprouts, nuts (sp. walnut and almonds), iron-rich food like green vegetables, also take flaxseeds, green tea, soyabean, fruits, salads, etc. Take proper 6-9hrs of sound sleep. Give up the habit of smoking and excessive alcohol intake. Avoid junk food and any kind of beverages (tea, coffee, aerated drinks, cold drinks, etc.) Avoid canned/ tinned food or food that contains preservatives (eat fresh ones). Avoid use of harsh hair colour, hair treatment like rebonding, straightening, perming, etc. Avoid vigorous exercises or any supplements provided by the gym! Use Rose wood/ any wooden hair comb to brush your hair. Regular exercising is also one of the important point, but should be done under some good, qualified yoga teacher or instructor for proper guidance; it also releases the stress/ tension in the mind and the body and keeps you FIT and YOUNG!! Medication: Take homoeopathic Rx - Schwabe's Wiesbaden 200/ twice a day for 1 month and revert. Also, use Schwabe's Arnica shampoo and Hair Growth oil regularly as per the condition of your scalp (minimum 3 times a week). After shampooing, use Bakson's Arnica Hair conditioner as well after every head wash. Apart from this, take Follihair tablets (multivitamin) - 1 tab. daily once for 1 month.

Hello. Consuming any thing in excess whether it's medication or simple multivitamin is not good for your body. So, right way of taking any multivitamin is to take it for 3-4months, discontinue it for 4-5 months then resume it again. Means, taking it off and on.

Hello doctor.I m worried about a small lump I developed at the opening of my anus which was result of me passing a dry and hard stool with pain.Pls advice how it can b treated. The pain has got lighter in the last one day.I applied an ointment. Thanks

Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS), MS - Urology, MBBS
Urologist, Ahmedabad
Dear , This is very likely to be perianal haematoma which occurs sometimes after passage of hard faeces. If pain has decreased then it would probably subside. It is better if you take Sitz bath once or twice a day: sitting in a tub full of lukewarm water with a few drops of dettol in it. This will help to subside it quickly. However if pain increase and takes throbbing character then a course of antibiotics should be taken. If pain or throbbing becomes severe enough to disturb your sleep at night then contact a proctologist or a general surgeon. Dr. Kiran Mehta.

Im 21 male nd I got worst pimples on my face as well as many pores. Im suffering from last 5 years nd my skin is too ...
PORES TREATMENT 1.Wash your face before you go to bed each night. Going to bed wearing still wearing makeup, as well as any dirt and debris that may have collected on your face during the day, is a sure way to clog your pores. If your pores routinely look large, this could be part of the problem. Get into the habit of cleansing your face each and every night so your pores will be less likely to get clogged. Use warm water, rather than hot or cold, so your skin will be less likely to get irritated. Pat your face dry with a soft towel. 2. Use a cleanser that doesn't irritate your skin. Many cleansers contain harsh ingredients that cause dry, irritated skin. When your pores are irritated, they look wider and more "open." In order to keep them closed, it's best to use a gentle cleanser that washes away dirt without causing your skin to dry out.( PREFERABLY USE CLEANSING MILK ( BAKSON) Choose a cleanser that's sulfate free. Sulfates are harsh cleansers that can strip the skin of its natural oils and leave it dry and itchy. Avoid using a cleanser with scrubbing beads on a daily basis. The beads could be irritating to your skin, and should only be used sparingly. 3. Try the oil cleansing method. It's becoming increasingly popular to replace soap with oil as a facial cleanser. It might sound counterintuitive to use oil to wash your face, but it's actually quite effective. The oil binds with your skin's natural oils and gently washes away dirt, sweat, and makeup without the need for harsh chemicals. Just smooth it over your skin and use a wet washcloth to wipe it off using a circular motion. Here are a few oil combinations to try out: For combination skin: Mix 1/2 teaspoon castor oil and 2 teaspoons olive oil. For dry skin: Mix 1/4 teaspoon castor oil and 2 teaspoons coconut or olive oil. 4. Splash your face with water in the morning. After getting a good night's sleep, it feels refreshing to splash your face with water. Since you don't wake up wearing makeup, there's no need to wash your face using a cleanser; in fact, it's better for your skin to give it a break and just use water. Pat your face dry with a soft towel. 5. Exfoliate every few days. Dead skin builds up on the surface of your skin, mixes with sweat and dirt, and ends up clogging pores. Exfoliating your skin regularly will prevent your pores from getting clogged so quickly. The result will be closed, small-looking pores as opposed to clogged pores that look big and open. One of the best ways to exfoliate is by simply using a washcloth. Wet your face and scrub it gently using circular motions. ( Preferably USE APRICOT SCRUB ( BAKSON) Facial scrubs are also good. Try a mixture of ground almonds and honey. 6. UNCLOGGING PORES (A) Do a steam treatment. This is a great way to open your pores so you can get rid of the small plugs of dead skin and dirt that are making them appear large and open. Heat a small pot of water until it begins to steam, then hold your face over it and drape a towel over your head. Let the steam bathe your face for three to five minutes, then rinse your face with cool water. Steaming your face opens up your pores, allowing them to become unclogged. Rinsing afterward gets rid of the debris, leaving your pores fresh and clean. Use cool water to close your pores. (B) Use a MUD PACK. MUD is a natural element that draws impurities out of the skin as it dries. When you do a MUD mask, dry mud is mixed with water to form a paste, which you smooth over your face. Let it dry completely, then rinse it away with cool water. • Many Mud packs are avaliable in stores but I will prefer MUD PACK ( BAKSON) 7.TONING AND MOISTURISING (A) Always rinse and tone when you're finished cleansing. Whether you steam or use a mask, always remember to rinse away the dirt when you're finished. Follow up by using a toner on your face. Toner helps restore your skin's pH balance after cleansing, giving it a youthful, glowing appearance and helping to close pores. (B) Avoid toners with chemicals that could inflame your skin. Beauty supply stores carry many different toners. Look for one that works with your skin type, but avoid toners with excess chemicals, perfumes, and dyes that could irritate or dry out your skin. These toners will do more harm than good, and your pores will end up looking larger instead of smaller. Avoid toners that contain alcohol, which can dry out the skin. Avoid toners that contain glycerin and fragrances, since these can cause allergic reactions. (C) Try apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar is made from fermented apples, and is a gentle, natural toner for any type of skin. Mix 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and 1 tablespoon of water, then use a cotton ball to apply it to your skin after rinsing. Let your skin dry, then moisturize it. (D) Try a honey mask to tone your skin. Plain, raw honey is an excellent toner for skin. Simply spread some on your face and let it sit for about ten minutes, then rinse it away with warm water. Your pores will tighten up and your face will feel fresh and youthful. (E) Finish your routine by moisturizing. Using a good face moisturizer( ALOVERA CREAM ( BAKSON) is key to keeping your pores closed, since dry skin can become irritated and lead to large-looking pores. Chose an alcohol-free moisturizer that doesn't contain perfumes and excess chemicals so you make sure you don't irritate your skin.

Psoriasis typically is dead skin accumulated over epidermis very fast and is covered by white flakes. Cleaning, scrubbing the skin with mild cleansers and taking oral'raktashodhak' are the ideal approach. Treatment is long one and once psoriasis spreads, doesn't go easily.

Some people have more oily skin which can be due to genetic reasons. You may also be getting blackheads due to this. This can be treated with creams and facewash. Please call me or send me photos through online consult option for proper examination and advice on treatment. Don't use cream base sunscreen.
