I am a diabetic, kindly suggest me about the food habit that is beneficial and harmful.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology

I am a diabetic, kindly suggest me about the food habit that is beneficial and harmful.
A diabetic person should be consuming a balanced diet which includes carbs, proteins & fats in proper proportion like everyone else. However, certain precautions needed are avoid sweets, direct sugar, deep fried foods, fruits like mangoes, grapes, chikkoos and bananas. Also avoid smoking and alcohol. You should always use whole grain flour, (no maida), millets can be added to the food (bajra, ragi, jowar etc), include soya flour in the diet to provide additional proteins particularly for vegetarians. Fruits like oranges, papaya, pomogranate, apple, pear, guava etc are good. Always eat less quantity at a time. Divide your total daily intake in to 5 portions and consume at a gap of 2 t o 3 hrs. But total intake should not exceed the prescribed amount.

Daily nite 1spoon triphala churna at the bed time regularly and some home remedies obesity is one of the most common health issues that people all over the world are facing nowadays. Obesity is a condition where a person has excessive storage of fat in the body, and the bmi (body mass index) is over 30. This is caused due to unhealthy lifestyle choices, which is harmful and leads to several health conditions like high blood pressure, respiratory illness, heart failure and diabetes. To overcome obesity problems it is important to make some lifestyle changes in your daily routine such as proper eating habit, proper sleep, regular exercising, walking and meditation which will benefit your overall health. Causes of obesity? unhealthy lifestyle? unhealthy diet or binge-eating habit? lack of exercise or physical activity? lack of sleep? genes and family heredity? health conditions? medication? stress? apple cider vinegar is an effective remedy for weight loss. Make a mixture of 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar with water or juice and drink daily to help break down the fat in your body. For more querries inform me. Some abdominal exercises: abdominal crunches? lay down flat on the floor? bend the knees with feet on the floor? place your hands by the side of your ears? take a deep breath? crunch up lifting the head and chest a bit. The aim is to try and touch the knees with the forehead. But do not try to do it in the first attempt. Give your body some time? now move down gradually, exhaling the air. Descending movement must be slower than the crunch up movement. Repeat the steps 5 to 10 times.

Thyroid is the metabolic hormone of the body. If you are hypothyroid then your metabolism will slow down. But it all depends from person to person. It is also true that your body fat will reduce slower than a a person with normal levels of thyroid. But you can always keep your levels in check by following a discipline lifestyle and eating clean and exercising well To maintain a low body fat and/or lower body fat: 1. Exercise at least 5 times per week 2. Eat whole/unprocessed foods at regular intervals, while being aware of physical hunger/fullness cues 3. Sleep 7-9 hours per night 4. Don’t engage in extreme diets 5. Stay consistent with your habits 6. Incorporate non-exercise physical activity 7. Ignore food advertising You need a fat loss diet which comprises of whole grains like jowar, bajra, wheat, brown rice, pulses like moong, musoor, bengal gram, lots of vegetables, fruits, eggs, fish, chicken, paneer, healthy oil, nuts and seeds. To gain weight you should eat more calories than you burn. Plus not only you have to eat calorie dense food but you have to keep in mind that what you are eating is healthy too. In the process of weight gain you do not want to put weight in an uneven manner and look unhealthy rather than looking bright and healthy. 1.Start with changing your lifestly. Start working out if you are not active. The biggest myth that prevails now a days is that thin people do not need to work out. This is wrong. When you challenge your body, it is forced to grow. But this growth can only be possible if you are eating enough food to let the body absorb and grow in size and muscles. 2.Eat Healthy – Stop drinking and smoking too much if you are indulged in it. Limit your intake of junk food, pepsi, sugary stuff etc. Do not at all starve yourself. Make it a habit to eat something healthy every 3 hours. This means you have to eat 6 small meals in a day. Your Daily food intake should ideally consist of – a.Have plenty of nuts, dry fuits and seeds. Almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, figs, dates and raisins. They are full of healthy fats needed by a human body. B.Good amount of fruits and vegetables – Bananas, apples, pomegranate, green leafy vegetables. Fruits and vegetables helps in absorption of food in the body and together, completes your daily nutrition need. C.If you are a non- vegetarian - Eat eggs, chicken etc. D.Eat whole grains – Try to have multi grains spread throughout the day. Wheat, brown rice, oats, bajra, daliya etc should be taken in multiple meals in a day. E.Eat Sprouts – Chana and moong which are full of protein and nutrients. F.You can supplement your diet with good quality multi-vitamin capsules. If you are lacking in protein, you can buy a high quality whey protein and have it with banana shake twice a day. G.You can take natural food items like wheat grass which is full of essential nutrients which helps in weight gain. Try to be patient while you are on the process of weight gain. Results take time to show. Just follow the regimen of weight gain religiously and you will soon start seeing the results.
