Towel hamstring stretch lie on the back, supporting the thigh with the hand or with a towel wrapped around it. Slowly straighten the knee until a stretch is felt in the back of the thigh, trying to get the bottom of the foot to face the ceiling, one leg at a time. Hold the position initially for 10 seconds, and gradually work up to 20 to 30 seconds. Seated hamstring stretch while sitting at the edge of a chair, straighten one leg in front of the body with the heel on the floor. Then, sit up straight and try pushing the navel towards the thigh without leaning the trunk of the body forwards. Hold this stretch for 30 seconds repeat 3 times for each leg.

The diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome should be seriously considered, among other things, and a nerve conduction study should be done for the same.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Your father must have started having degenerative changes in his lower back region especially knowing that he has been a chronic smoker. If he has localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then he can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - if pain is more then take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits him - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if his pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe him for next 2-3 weeks how he responds to this conservative management protocol. If he is not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation. I am 56 years old and I have back pain and also pain on my right leg mainly below the knee till the angle sometimes. I have done Mri and the diagnosis is degeneration of lumbar or lumbosacral intervertebral disc. Is there any cure without operation.

Last year I had a lot of pain in my both knees, while siting & standing I used to have alot of pain, I consulted a doctor asked me to take x ray in which I found my right leg kneecap moved to little bit right side & left leg knee cap is moved to left side, he asked me to go for surgery or else I may face arthritis in future. He gave me tablets temporarily problem was solved. But now I feel that my right kneecap has moved more on rightside i. E more gap. So please guide me what to do without surgery. Thanking you.

I think you are being misguided. Investigations advised - x ray of the affected part. Anyway you may try- sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick matress are harmful do hot fomantation. Paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do knee & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. For emergency treatment contact your nearest hospital or family doctor. If it does not give relief in 4-5days, Please inform

Swelling happens because your body is holding on to more fluid than usual. The increased pressure in your leg veins, and pressure from your growing baby on the big veins in your groin, add to the problem. Swelling is common. About half of all pregnant women experience it. To prevent Swelling Try to eat a balanced diet so that you put on a healthy amount of weight during pregnancy. Aim to reduce how much salt, sugar and fat you have. Cut out pre-packaged, highly processed foods, as they are usually high in all three. Salt causes your body to hold on to more fluid. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, as this will help your body to hoard less water. Rest as much as possible, putting your feet up above your hips. Try not to cross your legs, as this restricts your blood flow. Sit down when you can, and if your work involves standing for long periods of time, move about from one foot to the other to increase blood flow. You can also do these simple foot exercises to reduce swelling in your ankles: bend and stretch your foot up and down 30 times Circle each foot eight times one way and eight times the other way You can do these whether you're standing or sitting. Exercise regularly, especially by walking, swimming, or riding an exercise bike. Or try a water aerobics class – immersion in water may temporarily help reduce swelling, particularly if the water level is up near your shoulders. Go to your Gynecologist if you notice swelling in your face or puffiness around your eyes, more than slight swelling of your hands, or excessive or sudden swelling of your feet or ankles. This could be a sign of preeclampsia, a serious condition. Best wishes.
