Hi, individual treatment for kidney stones depends on the type of kidney stones that are formed. Firstly, staying well hydrated by drinking enough water is one of the best measures you can take to avoid kidney stones. To lessen your risk of forming a new stone, it is very important that you drink at least three quarts (12 cups) of fluid throughout the day. In hotter weather, you may need to drink more to make up for fluid loss from sweating. This will help keep your urine less concentrated. Less concentrated urine reduces the risk of stone formation. Most of the fluid you drink should be water. Try to drink a glass of water before bed and if you wake during the night to use the bathroom, drink another glass before going back to bed. There are two kinds of stone oxalate stone and calcium stone and treatment is different based on that. Other than this the combination of lemon juice and olive oil is traditionally used as a home remedy to expel gallbladder stones but it can also be used to treat kidney stones. The citric acid present in lemons helps break down calcium-based kidney stones and stops further growth. Take four tablespoons or a quarter cup of fresh lemon juice. Add an equal amount of olive oil. Drink this mixture followed by plenty of water. Do this two to three times a day, up to three days. You need not continue this remedy if you pass the stones in a single dose. Warning: this remedy may not be suitable for passing large kidney stones. Make sure you consult a doctor before taking this remedy. You should look for varieties that are low in sugar, or make your own. Lemons, limes, and cranberries are very high in citric acid, which helps prevent crystals from increasing in size and becoming new kidney stones. Avoid dark beers. These contain oxalates, which can contribute to future kidney stones. Take medication if suggested by doctor and follow the above along with that. For medication for alcohol consult a psychiatrist and get proper treatment done. All the best.

This is a very common situation and your mother will require investigations for her medical condition. Weight reduction, bland diet along with plenty of fluids and salt restriction will benefit her. She will also require a cardiac checkup and renal checkup. Abdominal sonography will throw more light on the size and location of the stones, based on which further treatment can be suggested.

Respected Sir As per the details provided your estimated GFR is 22 ml/min/1.73 sq. M, comes under CKD Stage IV. 1.Kidney function is severely decreased in stage 4 CKD. Protein waste, toxins and minerals build up in the body and lead to uremia with symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, abnormal taste, bad breath, nerve and sleep problems, difficulty concentrating and fatigue. Fluid retention due to a decrease in urine output may also occur. 2.Protein Restriction: A protein intake of 0.6g per kilogram of body weight is beneficial for glomerular filtration. Ensure you do not take more protein than recommended. 3.Fluid Restriction: Restrict the amount of fluids you consume. The total volume should be your daily urine output+ 500 ml. Suppose your daily urine output is around 500 ml, you should not take more than 1 litre of fluids (water and other fluids combined) per day. 4.Potassium Restriction: Avoid High potassium foods like bananas, prune juice oranges, orange juice, milk, tomato juice, prunes, nuts, chocolate, dried peas and beans. 5.Phosphorous Restriction: Foods containing high phosphorus are milk, beans, black eye peas, nuts, chocolate, yogurt, cheese of any kind, liver, desserts prepared milk. 6.Sodium Restriction: High sodium foods include salt, all types of frozen meats, corned beef, sausage, pizza, Chinese food, fast foods, cheese, pickles, soy sauce, potato chips and all types of canned soups. The above diet cannot obviously prove to be cure but it can increase your life quality and feeling of your well-being. Kidney Transplantation provides an improved quality of Life. Please consider going for Kidney Transplantation. Hope this helps Sir Get Well Soon.

What Makes One Lose Control of the Urinary Bladder?

What Makes One Lose Control of the Urinary Bladder?

What you should know about urinary incontinence.

Urinary incontinence is the inability to hold urine in the bladder because of loss of control of the bladder. The severity may range from temporary to chronic, depending on the cause of this disease. Urinary incontinence is more common in women than men and can be categorized into three types.

Types and symptoms of urinary incontinence

Stress incontinence: this incontinence may occur while participating in any physical activity such as a sudden cough, laugh, sneezing or exercising. The stress here refers to the sudden physical pressure that a person experiences, leading him/her to urinate involuntarily.

Urge incontinence: a sudden, involuntary contraction of the muscular wall of the bladder causes an urgency to urinate. This urgency can be formed by a sudden change in position or sex.

Overflow incontinence: this is more common in men with prostate gland problems, damaged bladder or blocked urethra. The person has an urge to urinate frequently but in small amounts.

Causes of urinary incontinence

There are a number of causes of urinary incontinence ranging from aging to cancer and physical damage to the neurological disorder.

1. Aging: with age, the bladder muscle weakens and the chances of incontinence increases.

Damage: since the pelvic muscles support the bladder any damage to it (surgery or any procedure to remove the uterus) can lead to urinary incontinence.

2. Enlarged prostate: enlargement of the prostate gland in older men may give rise to this condition.

Cancer: urinary incontinence may be associated with untreated prostate cancer, which is a side effect of treatments for it.

3. Menopause: estrogen is a hormone that keeps the lining of bladder and urethra healthy. After menopause the production of estrogen is decreased, increasing the chances of urinary incontinence.

4. Prevention: urinary incontinence is not preventable but some steps can be taken to reduce the risk of it. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, avoiding smoking, practicing pelvic floor exercises, avoiding caffeine and acidic foods and eating more fiber to prevent constipation can help decreasing the risk of it.
