Hello As an urologist, I can understand your concern fully. Stones of 1 cm and 0.8 cm are not large size. It's not something to worry about, unless there's bleeding in urine or severe pain. If the kidney is blocked, it needs urgent treatment. He should drink 12-15 glasses fluids daily. If i've your scan report with latest blood creatinine, uric acid, and sugar, I can give you an expert opinion.

Asked this before about my irregular menses and severe pain during menses. Dr. Advised me for sonography but i'm done with it. There's nothing like ovarian cyst or anything like that. Earlier Dr. Prescribed me Mala N for 3 months course but this worked for few months only after that condition was same.

Hello, severe pain during menses is called dysmenorrhoea and can be due to endometriosis or adenomyosis. The pain can be controlled with nsaids and to regularise menses you need to rule out pcos, hypothyroidism and hyperprolactinemia as well first. If pregnancy is not a concern then continue mala n for another 3 months.

You should follow these very important and simple things to prevent stone formation & to get sure treatment of kidney stones: 1. First take a lot of fluid daily. The more you drink water and fluid, the less amount of deposit accumulate in kidney. So you have to make your kidneys healthy just only by drinking 2-3 liters (10-12 glasses) of water. 2. Stones are mainly formed of calcium and oxalate. So take very low quantity of milk, cheese, cream and dairy products. 3. Do not take strawberry, plum, spinach and tomatoes. These fruits and vegetables are rich in oxalate. So avoid them to prevent from kidney stones. 3. Stop taking supplementary vitamin d and calcium medication. 4. Avoid animal protein diet- eggs, red meat, fish in diet. 5. Take less amount of salt, pickle and western foods. They have high amount of sodium. So avoid it. 6. Urinary infection are also one of the cause of stone. So take proper antibiotic treatment of urinary infection on time. Even when you feelburning sensation or pain during urination, don't avoid it. Take medication as soon as possible. I hope you follow them in your life andstay healthy. 7. You can take gokshur tablets of himalaya for 3 months. It definitely get relief from kidney stones.

what are the size of the stones? stones treatment depends on the types and size of stone, most kidney stones won't require invasive procedures. You may be able to pass a small stone by: drinking water. Drinking as much as 2 to 3 quarts (1.9 to 2.8 liters) a day may help flush out your urinary system. Unless doctor tells you otherwise, drink enough fluid mostly water to produce clear or nearly clear urine. Passing a small stone can cause some discomfort. To relieve mild pain, according to your medical history I may prescribe pain relievers. I am a doctor and renal (kidney) registered dietitian who will also prescribe a customized diet plan and medications to help pass your kidney stone quickly and with less pain. Do reply back for medication prescriptions. Being also a general physician and registered dietitian, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary guidelines and home remedies carefully personalized for each individual patient.

My father had pcnl surgery for kidney stone removal and a jj stent was set inside it. It will get removed after 3 weeks of surgery. I had done a X-RAY KUB as asked by the doctor and then come for the stent removal but in KUB report I am getting radio opaque shadow in kidney and jj stent in the report. Is the stone formed again after 3 weeks of stone removal? Would this mean that he has to undergo surgery again?

depending upon the size and site of radio opaque shadow, if it small in 2 to 3 mm or so this may be residual stone particle and it will pass spontaneously, if larger than 8mm then that may require procedure again, take plenty of fluids orally.

Ice can be kept in the low back where you have This is a general low back ache and for this you can follow these measures: one keep a pillow right under the knee while sleeping, next is you can keep ice in the painful area for about 5--10 minutes, if pain still persists you can stretch your body by twisting the waist on both sides how we used to do in the school drill similarly you can try which will help you relax as well will reduce the pain. Ice can be kept in the low back where you have back pain. It is suggestible to wear Lumbo sacral belt which would help you to build the abdominal muscle tone which itself would make you feel better. When Do Kidneys Need Dialysis?

DNB (Nephrology), MD, MBBS
Nephrologist, Delhi
When Do Kidneys Need Dialysis?

Kidneys are a pair of organs that are located on either side of the spine, each about a size of a fist. The kidneys help in purifying blood by removing toxins, waste materials and excess fluids from the human body. Disorders and dysfunctions of the kidney can lead to severe and often fatal consequences. When the kidneys stop functioning as they are supposed to, dialysis is performed to resume normal functioning in the body.

Dialysis is a type of treatment, which filters and purifies the blood with the aid of a machine. It is an artificial way of purifying blood. There are two types of dialysis, namely hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. Hemodialysis, the most common form of dialysis, which involves using a manmade kidney called a hemodialyzer, which removes toxins and waste materials from blood.

Peritoneal Dialysis, on the other hand, is a type of treatment which involves implanting a catheter in the stomach. During the procedure, a fluid called dialysate flows into the abdomen that absorbs all the waste material, which is consequently drained out of the body.

You may need a dialysis if:

- Your kidneys are dysfunctional
- When waste materials and toxins start to accumulate in the body
- In an event of an injury or accident to the kidney such as internal lacerations (wound caused by the tearing of a tissue)
- If the creatinine (a type of a chemical waste product) level falls to 10-12 cc/minute
- In an event where the kidneys aren't able to work properly leading to accumulation of toxins, irregular amounts of chemicals in the body and other dysfunctions

Weakening of the abdominal muscles and weight gain are some of the risks involved in dialysis. Dialysis is a temporary treatment and serves to function till the time the actual kidneys get repaired. In chronic cases of kidney disease, kidney transplant may perhaps be the last resort.

On 24th Mar, 2013, admitted to ICU, MKW Hospital (J Block, Rajouri Garden, New Delhi). Did not show much breathing problem but there was heaviness in stomach and rib side pain. Chest x-ray suggested fluid accumulation (Pleural effusion). First need extracted 1500 ml fluid, then tube inserted. Fluid continued coming (approx 6500 ml). Still coming till 28th Mar. Mother feeling better and is able to breathe without mask. However, on 27th late night, the tube was blocked and mother had breathing problem. Quick x-ray showed the blockage in tube which was corrected. On 27th, CT Scan was done. The finding is as under" IMPRESSION:Right side pleural effusion with subsegmental collapse in bilateral lower lobes. Chest tube noted on right side. Few subsentimeteric sized mediastinal lymph nodes seen. Patch opacities seen in right upper and middle lobe -?Infective [Tubercular] Mild to moderate ascites with mild diffuse wall thickening noted in caecum, terminal ileum and few small bowel loops with few subcentimeter sized mesenteric lymphadenopathy -- likely infective [? Tubercular. Since the CT Scan report was not conclusive, doctors suggested bronchoscopy. Not done so far. Based on above facts and findings, what could be suggestion (whether TB, cancer, lymphoma, any infection or another thing). Since volume of fluid is very large and is keep coming from the tube. It seems it is also keep accumulating very fast now? Otherwise, mother is stable, easily taking breathe and eating. Active in thinking, listening and speaking. Keep demanding for going back home.
