Avoid sitting Cross legged. Avoid Squatting- Quadriceps Exercises- Lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core Strengthening Exercise- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day.

Sciatica - Ayurvedic Remedies for it!

Gridhrasi is what Sciatica is known as in Ayurveda. It is the disorder that causes mild to agonizing pain in the sciatic nerve or neuralgia. These nerves, emerging from the pelvis, run along the hamstring and may cause intense pain in one or both the legs when a person suffers from Sciatica. Sciatic pains fill your life with misery as the simplest of daily activities cause sudden and excruciating pain. There are two types of sciatica i.e. true sciatica and pseudo sciatica. Sciatica may be caused due to bulging disc or herniated disc, degenerative disc disease, piriformis syndrome, pregnancy or trauma etc. 

According to Ayurveda, Sciatica is caused due to impairment in Vata i.e. the dosha responsible for the functional ability and movement of the body and also in some cases due to impairment in the Kapha i.e. the dosha that is responsible for body fluids and lubrication.

Ayurvedic herbs that improve the symptoms of Sciatica are:

  1. Babunah is also known as Bitter Chamomile. Not only is it used to relieve and reduce the pain faced by a sciatica patient, but it is also used for treating problems such as rheumatism due to the advancement of age. Compressed bitter chamomile flowers are prescribed for sciatica.
  2. Guggul is also known as Indian Bdellium. Since guggulu is well known for its anti-inflammatory properties, it relaxes the sciatic nerves.
  3. Rasna is also known as Vanda Orchid. Intense or agonizing pain due to the sciatic nerve issues can be reduced by this ayurvedic herb due to its anti-inflammatory properties. 
  4. Juniper oil is extremely helpful when massaged onto the thigh muscles with firm strokes or pressure. It is used extensively in massage therapy for treating sciatica since the extent of reduction in sciatic nerve pain is tremendous. 
  5. Jaiphal is also known as Nutmeg. After being mixed with sesame seeds oil, nutmeg is coarsely powdered and then fried till it turns brown. This is then applied to those areas where the sciatic pain is intense for instant relief.
  6. Kumari is also known as Indian Aloe. Properties of Indian Aloe are extremely helpful in treating lower back ailments such as sciatica and lumbago.
  7. Shallaki is also known as Boswellia or Frankincense. Containing anti-inflammatory properties, shallaki is applied externally to get relief from sciatic nerve pain. 

Ayurvedic preparations such as yogaraja guggulu, Vataganjakusha, Saindhavadi taila are also very useful in treating Sciatica. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an Ayurveda.

Postural correction- sit tall, walk tall extension exercises x 15 times x twice daily - lying on tummy, take left arm up for 3 seconds, then bring it down, right arm up for 3 seconds, bring down. Bring right leg up, hold for 3 seconds, bring it down. Then right leg up and hold for 3 seconds and bring it down. Repeat twice a day- 10 times.

Shoulder pain can be a result of injury or disease of the shoulder joint. Injury can affect any of the ligaments, bursae, or tendons surrounding the shoulder joint. Injury can also affect the ligaments, cartilage, menisci and bones of the joint. Some minor shoulder pain can be treated at home. Icing the shoulder for 15 to 20 minutes, three or four times a day for two to three days can help reduce pain. Use an ice bag or wrap ice in a towel (putting ice directly on your skin can cause frostbite). Rest the shoulder and avoid any movements that might cause pain. Simple shoulder exercises can help to stretch and strengthen muscles and rotator cuff tendons. A physiotherapist can show you how to do them properly.

Hallo lybrate-user. If you had dislocation 3 year back. It is important to know details of injury. Because the way of injury help to give an idea about the structures which can be involved in the injury. What I think is you had a ligament injury at that time which was given less attention. This could trigger the pain in long run. Best way to improve joint stability is to have soup of goat meat. If you are veg you can have sprouts soup. Include protein foods daily. Also apply oil do massage daily.

Off late I have been excruciating pain in my both knee joints more pronounced in left leg. My place of residence is on 3rd floor & I am overweight & diabetic. Please advise.

This could be due to oa knee &/or obesity. Physiotherapy along with medicines will help. Do knee exercises. It may have to be further investigated rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with a soft bedding on it. Any way take multivitamins & other antioxidants along with. Ibuprofen 200mg od & sos x 5days you will need other supportive medicines also. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. Contact me again, if needed.

Please don't jump to surgery. Please take muscle relaxant and pain killer and do Physiotherapy. Back pain has many causes. The only indication for surgery with back pain is radiating pain down the legs, numbness or decreased sensation in legs or feet or muscle weakness or bowel or bladder disturbance. If you don't have any of the above please please avoid surgery. Please contact if you have any doubt or need to more details.

Not everyone with irregular periods will have PCOD. Also you need a scan and blood test to diagnose it. When you get married you can get evaluated if your pregnancy gets delayed. As of now exercise regularly and keep your weight under control? That is the only thing you need to do now. For back pain learn simple yoga and start doing.

Dear lybrate-user! do not worry about the back pain. Homeopathy can treat the back pain without any side effects. You may get normal within in few days. 1. First reduce your 10% weight 2. do proper exercise with healthy diet. Use warm water for drinking,take healthy ,warm food,fresh fruits,dry fruits,take proper rest,sound sleep,do regular exercise, yoga,pranayam,keep cleanliness of private body parts. avoid chilled water,cold drink, foods kept in fridge,oily,spicy,outside food,water, avoid late night works, travelling ,overexertion during menstruation. best luck..

Yesterday night I had to play a football game and I got my left foot ankle injured. It got twisted while I was trying to shoot and got a tackle on my leg with a player falling on my twisted ankle. I am using a bandage for support. Pls advice coz need to be back healthy soon as games are coming ahead! Please hoping to hear from you soon.

I think you have ligament injury/sprain. Apply ice for 20 minutes for 4 times in a day. It will heal your injury. Apply analgesic ointment then apply crep bandage. And take rest. If possible concern qualified physiotherapist. They will help you.

i am suffering from Achilles Heel for last 3 years tried everything. i am sports person play state level badminton. Suggest remedy do all stretches consulted sports dr, ortho everybody but it does not get cured. I continue playing practice with it. I had rested for 3 months but nothing improved. Goes with painkillers

you should just try one massage therapy for releasing your calf muscle. It must be becouse of calf musce tightness also.everybody got confuse sometime you feel pain achilles tendon and treat that part only..I saw lots cases like you .just realse calf muscle achilles pain gone..so just try for that..and let me answer after that
