Premarital Counseling and It's Importance

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
Play video

My name is Dr. Asha Khatri. I had passed MD in 1977 and obstetrics and gynecology from Pandit LNM Medical College, Raipur with gold medal and distinction. My special interests are infertility, high risk pregnancy, delivery and endoscopy. Today I am going to share with you some important topics related to obstetric which will help you in taking the proper decision. Premarital counseling is very important because so many conditions which you are not aware of can affect your obstetric outcome.

First you should know the HIV status of both the partners because if one is HIV positive the other can get the infection from the partner and if the mother is HIV positive then the baby can get infection from the mother during pregnancy. At the time of delivery, RH factor is decided by the type of protein on the red blood cells and it is also called NTJ. Most of the people have protein or RH Factor on the red blood cells and they are said to be RH positive and those they do not have the RH factor of protein on the cells are said to be RH negative. If RH negative mother carries an RH positive fetus during pregnancy, a small amount of leak or fetal blood cells takes place into the maternal circulation during pregnancy and at the time of delivery mother's body produces antibodies to fight the RH factor on the fetal red blood cells. These antibodies cross the placenta and reach the fetus and they destroy the fetal red cells and produce a condition called hemolytic disease of the newborn. In mild cases, the baby will develop the jaundice ; In moderate cases, it is the anemia of the newborn ; and in the sever cases the baby dies inside the uterus.

There is a way to prevent the formation of her body from forming antibodies rh- globulin containing RH. Antibodies should be injected into the Rh negative mother during pregnancy and just after delivery with readymade antibodies now available. The mother's body seems no need to make her own antibodies.

Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder affecting the red blood cells it affects 7-8% of the Indian population. Some of the high risk communities are Sindhi Punjabi's lohanas Maymans and Bhanushalis.

Two main forms of thalassemia are:

  • Thalassemia minor
  • Thalassemia major.

Thalassemia Minor- People with thalassemia minor generally healthy, though they may suffer from mild anemia.

Thalassemia Major- Child with thalassemia major is born when both parents are carriers of thalassemia minor. Thalassemia major is a fatal blood disorder.

A regular transfusion is essential to enable proper growth and development of the child throughout the life. Proper planning and use of 100% sure and safe method of contraception should be used to avoid the unwanted pregnancy before marriage.

Now I am going to tell you about pre-pregnancy counseling. Antenatal care begins long before the patient becomes pregnant. All the patients should visit the gynecologist before pregnancy. Those patients who are at risk of medical and offset complications should visit to know when to become pregnant. Medical complications like diabetes, hypertension, thyroid, asthma, tuberculosis during pregnancy can cause genetic disorder. If patient has genetic disorder then they can choose not to become pregnant and may decide for adoption. Follic acid should be started three months before becoming pregnant to prevent the development of neural tube defects like spinal bifida and anencellaly.

Ways On How To Fight Back Addiction!

Addiction is a brain ailment that is characterized by irrational engagement in satisfying stimuli despite of argumentative circumstances. Addiction is an ailment where the brain's Reward system malfunctions and only responds to persistently greater level of addictive stimulus like morphine, cocaine, etc.

There are many varieties of addiction like alcoholism, gambling, sexual intercourse, etc. These force a person to isolate himself from the entire society and indulge in his or her addictions. If they are not supplied with the drugs they may react violently and may even die.

Drug treatment is a type of treatment which is intended to aid the abused users stop the uncontrollable usage of drugs and protect them from the adverse effects of it. This treatment has a variety of forms and takes a lot of time as the drug abuse is a chronic disorder and cannot be treated in a short term. Below mentioned are some of the ways by which you can fight back addiction effectively.

• For individuals who are addicted to drugs such as opium and nicotine (Tobacco) are treated with drugs such as methadone, naltrexone for opium addicted individuals and with varenicline and bupropion for tobacco addicted people.

How to maintain Vaginal hygiene?

Hello I am anuradha from dr amar colony market today we are going to discuss about the vaginal and the genital hygiene. As now days vaginal and urinary infections are very very common, so first of all I will tell about how to wash the vaginal area. Vaginal area should be cleaned once in a day during bathing not so frequently, so we should wash the area with soap . Whatever we are using only once and should be gently rubbed and not harshly rubbed again and again. And we should avoid the soap or whatever we are using inside the vagina it should be applied only outside and specially we should take care that we are washing this area after urinating or bathing from front to behind we should never use a jet or whatever water we are using from anus to the front.

As there are different bacteria in both the areas which can cause infection. And after cleaning this area you should pat dry the area completely to avoid infection. the vagina has normal healthy bacteria which may be disrupted by these things by washing so frequently or by using so much soap, it gets disrupted which can allow the infectious bacteria to grow there . so you should avoid these things to maintain the vaginal and genital hygiene also you should take care that you are drinking lots of water during whole day as now a days there are many chances of urinary infection about wearing clothes you should , preferably wear cotton undergarments specially white in color so that you should come to know that it is clean or not, and you should avoid tight clothes and clothes which are made of nylon or synthetic cloths.

You should change these clothing frequently if you doing any strenuous exercise or after any stannous work you should change the clothing as it causes sweat and infection. during menses we should take care that it is cleaned frequently and you should change the pads frequently as it causes infection and better to avoid tampons which is inserted may hygienically or unhygenicaly it may cause infection , so its better not to use tampons and use pads which should be changed frequently .

This was for today and if you want to know more you can contact me through lybrate at amar colony market .

Lower back pain you can do it this exercise, 1 Lying on your back, bend your right knee into your chest and place a strap or rolled-up towel around the ball of your foot. Straighten your leg toward the ceiling. Press out through both heels. If the lower back feels strained, bend the left knee and place the foot on the ground. Hold for 3-5 minutes and then switch to the left let for 3-5 minutes. 2….Lying on your back, bend your knees into your chest and bring your arms out at a T. As you exhale lower your knees to ground on the right. Keep both shoulders pressing down firmly. If the left shoulder lifts, lower your knees further away from the right arm. Hold for 1-2 minutes each side I hope you will fit and fine.

There are several different causes for women to feel pain in their vaginal areas during pregnancy, and the most common one is caused by the developing baby. It can begin during the second trimester, but most pregnant women who feel an intensely sharp pain in their vaginas are simply feeling the baby pressing down on their pelvic nerves. The closer a woman gets to her delivery date, the lower the fetus drops which in turn can cause the ligaments and the nerves in the pelvic region to become pinched and stretched. Most women only experience this sharp pain for a few seconds, but it can last for up to a couple of minutes. The best treatment is to simply lie down on the left side to let the baby readjust, but sitting can also help relieve the pain and pressure.

Hello lybrate user- Irregular menses might occur due to two causes, first if you have developed anaemia (low hb count) or you have experienced hormonal disturbances occur in PCOD (Poly cystic ovarian disease/Thyroid. Try this ayurvedic treatment- A) Tab Kuberaksha vati 1 tab twice daily. B) Tab Hyponid 1 tab thrice daily. C) Do Basti treatment by nearby ayurvedic doctor (it is a very effective treatment in ayurveda for irregular menses and PCOD). D) Maintain proper eating routine, avoid fast foods and spicy diet.
