I am 39 years old and want to quit alcohol. Please guide and suggest some medicine. Thanks.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Only strong will power, determination, attending AA meetings and diverting mind when tempted will help you stop alcohol or may need professional help from a psychiatrist or de addiction centre. Try to do meditation and yoga. Read good books and listen to music and if you are believer attend Bhajans Alcohol causes 7 types of cancer, including breast, mouth and bowel cancers. When you drink alcohol, cancer-causing chemicals are formed. Alcohol also affects hormone levels and makes cells even more likely to be damaged by smoking. The less alcohol you drink, the lower the risk of cancer. No type of alcohol is better or worse than another, it is the alcohol itself that leads to the damage, regardless of whether it is in wine, beer or spirits. And drinking and smoking together are even worse for you. Not everyone who drinks alcohol will develop cancer. But on the whole, scientists have found that some cancers are more common in people who drink more alcohol than others. Every year, alcohol causes 4% of cancers .Tips to cut down on alcohol. There are lots of simple ways to cut down on the amount of alcohol you drink. It can help to work out if there are particular times or situations when you tend to have a drink, whether that’s a bad day at work or a weekly pub quiz tradition, and plan what you’ll say and do differently next time. Have more alcohol-free days a week. For liver health it’s best to have at least 2 days off alcohol in a row each week. Try agreeing on certain days with your partner or a friend and help each some wi other and stick to it. If you are planning to drink alcohol, decide on a limit in advance and make sure you don’t go over it. Swap every other alcoholic drink for a soft one – starting with your first drink. Try shandy instead of a pint of beer, or swap ne for soda and have a spritzer. Don’t stock up on beer, wine or spirits at home. Finish one drink before pouring another, because topping up drinks makes it harder to keep track of how much you’ve had and when you planned to stop. Avoid buying drinks in rounds, that way you don’t have to keep pace with anyone. Tell a friend or partner that you’re cutting down on alcohol, they can support you – or even join you.

Ways to manage Anger and Depression

Hi I'm Dr. Kanan, a Clinical Psychologist and a performance coach.

How many of you get depressed? I can bet some of you are saying "I". And how many of you get angry? The other half are saying "yes", I can almost see that.

Most of us oscillate between being depressed and angry. And it's okay and it's normal. What you need to know is why that happens and how you can help yourself. So depression is something that you turn inwards, right? You get sad and you don't want to go to work, you get lethargic and nothing and nothing in life seems really worth it. And when the same energy is turned outside, it's anger where you are edgy and sensitive and lash out, and the smallest of things seem to irritate you. We swing between these two extremes, so we turn depression inside, maybe want to be kind of rude and mean to ourselves, and anger is something we throw out.

Why would you be rude and mean to another? Oh! It was not intentional. I recommed you don't make it intentional to yourself as well. So. what is very important is, and if you see you are stuck in these two extremes and these two patterns, it's very important to find a balance. So that people don't see you as to separate people. Most importantly you will feel at balance. You will be more in your skin, you will be more content and happy. So at Life Cures Wellness clinic we enable you to practice mindful practices, we enable you to be happy, so we use processes like emotional freedom techniques, so that you learn to handle your emotions, have a balance.

At Life Cures we also enable you to use these emotions to empower you so that you can communicate better and be happy because happiness is clearly the way to your productivity. You can feel free to contact me, I'm Dr. Kanan on librate.com. Thank you very much.

How to treat anti-depressant related impotency? When I tries to stop taking it I feel more depressed.

How to treat anti-depressant related impotency? When I tries to stop taking it I feel more depressed.
Hi, edging, or orgasm control, is the practice of maintaining a high level of sexual arousal while delaying ejaculation. It takes practice, but it gets easier over time. Here are two methods recommended by the national institutes of health to stop premature ejaculation:[1] stop-and-start method: have intercourse as usual until you feel yourself coming uncomfortably close to orgasm. Immediately and abruptly cease all stimulation for 30 seconds, then start again. Repeat this pattern until you're ready to ejaculate. Squeeze method: have intercourse as usual until you feel like orgasm is seconds away. Abruptly stop other stimulation and gently squeeze your thumb and forefinger around the part of the penis where the glans meets the shaft (or your partner could do this). After squeezing for a few seconds, pause all stimulation for another 30 seconds before resuming intercourse. Repeat this pattern until you're ready to ejaculate. Consult a psychologist online or in person.

i am 26 years old. I am feeling depressed over a breakup with girlfriend and unable to recover from it. I just want to recover from it.

Break-up with a girl friend is less painful than with a wife (having children causes still more pains). But the fact is, it happens more frequent than ever before in our country. So yours is not an end of life. At least it happened before marriage. Time will heal any wound. Better move into new horizons, (places, friends, aquiring new skills and trying even a new girlfriend). It is only a maya that it appears that she is the only girl in this world.

This tingling feeling can be because of so much stress and anxiety. I feel if your husband is supportive then you do not need to think about others. Its a condition of every 2nd family. Problem come in life but we should not over burden our mind with that. Let people say what they want to say. You need to be focus in your life, do not affect your life because of others. Start doing things for your self. Spend more time with you and make your wishes ful fill. Work on yourself only and do things which make you satisfy.

To get a better recall, you need to learn and register things in a better way. In other words, you need to increase your concentration first. Learn to meditate and focus on things. There are some memory improving techniques such as learn the things by making chunks. Associate the things with your personal experiences. It is called mnemonic devices.

How to keep brain trained and active as quick as it can? By food or any other stuff.

BASM, MD, MS (Counseling & Psychotherapy), MSc - Psychology, Certificate in Clinical psychology of children and Young People, Certificate in Psychological First Aid, Certificate in Positive Psychology
Psychologist, Palakkad
Dear lybrate-user, welcome to lybrate. Memory and mind power depends mainly on three aspects. Understanding, storage and recollection. To understand what you are studying, you must be able to be attentive or concentrate. Concentration is possible when you are interested in that subject. Creative way of learning can help you concentrate and understand easily. When you are able to understand and concentrate, it is stored within your brain. If you read more and more it will be store in long term memory. Third part is retrieval. Whenever you want to retrive what you learned and stored, your brain gets the request, searches the database and retrieves the information for you. The retrieval may prove to be difficult if you are anxious, stressed, worried or tired physically or mentally. Retrieval is more easy when you are relaxed and healthy. Brain needs nutrients to keep itself sharp. Fruits, vegetables and dry fruits provide much needed nutrients for your brain. Include at least one fruit in your daily diet. Physical exercises, entertainment, hobbies, relaxation, memory games like sudoku etc help keep your memory sharp and active. Take care.

Dear doctor I am depressed due to heavy loss in my business. I have to pay money back to suppliers. I always think about it and their comes in my mind to suicide. What should I do?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
Suicide is a cowardly way out. Your life is very precious, and all this debt has caused you so much anguish that the shortage of money has made you contemplate death, to escape the stress. Is life so cheap? analyze what went wrong with the business: was it miscalculation, or too much splurging and living beyond your means, or was it business forces far beyond your knowledge and control etc? then make a strategy to rework the plan and approach it to suit the current situation. Debtors will be satisfied if you at least repay in small amounts. If you have borrowed from private parties, whose rate of interest is illegally high, then you are under the threat of loan sharks, and must act accordingly to fight this menace. You can lodge a complaint and take legal recourse to bring justice to the plight you are in. Be a man and at least fight for justice. If you have to die in that fight, you have fought a good fight. You may also meet with a business consultant to get some professional guidance about the running of your enterprise. If worse comes to worst, sell the business and recover some of the losses. Have faith in god and pray regularly too, for some divine intervention. If all this does not work and you want to get financial freedom, contact me and I can propose a very lucrative business, if you have some seed capital for initial investment.

General Physician,
7 Ways to Remember Anything Research-based strategies to boost your memory and keep it strong 7 Strategies for Remembering 1.Become interested in what you're learning. We're all better remembering what interests us. Few people, for example, have a difficult time remembering the names of people they find attractive. If you're not intrinsically interested in what you're learning or trying to remember, you must find a way to become so. 2.Find a way to leverage your visual memory. You'll be surprised by how much more this will enable you to remember. For example, imagine you're at a party and are introduced to five people in quick succession. How can you quickly memorize their names? Pick out a single defining visual characteristic of each person and connect it to a visual representation of their name, preferably through an action of some kind. Remember: Memory is predominantly visual. 3.Create a mental memory tree. If you're trying to memorize a large number of facts, find a way to relate them in your mind visually with a memory tree. Construct big branches first, then leaves. Branches and leaves should carry labels that are personally meaningful to you in some way, and the organization of the facts ("leaves") should be logical. 4.Associate what you're trying to learn with what you already know. It seems the more mental connections we have to a piece of information, the more successful we'll be in remembering it. This is why using mnemonics. Write out the items to be memorized over and over and over. 5.When reading for retention, summarize each paragraph in the margin. This requires you to think about what you're reading, recycle it, and teach it to yourself again. Even take the concepts you're learning and reason forward with them; apply them to imagined novel situations, which creates more neural connections to reinforce the memory. 6.Do most of your studying in the afternoon. Though you may identify yourself as a "morning person" or "evening person" at least one Study. Suggests your ability to memorize isn't influenced as much by what time of day you perceive yourself to be most alert but by the time of day you actually study—afternoon appearing to be the best. 7.Get adequate sleep to consolidate and retain memories. Not just at night after you've studied but the day, you study as well. Far better to do this than to stay up cramming all night for an exam.

Stress & Anxiety

M.D Psychiatry , MBBS
Psychiatrist, Gurgaon
Play video

Hello, everybody. I am Dr Ashish Kumar Mittal and I am M.D. Psychiatrist in Gurgaon. Today I am here for stress, anxiety and its management.

What are the treatments for this situation?

So we can do something in our lifestyle so that symptoms can reduce.

  • We need to see our sleep whether we are sleeping properly or not. Take 6-8 hours proper sleep. Fix your sleeping and wake up time.
  • Switch off the television, internet 1 hour before sleeping so that your mind can be at rest before sleeping.
  • Don't use excessive caffeine. Caffeine is present in tea, coffee, cold drink and chocolate. So not more than 2 cups of tea should be taken in a day. Because more tea can lead to lack of sleeping, more anxiety

In students, we can notice such things. To stay awake they consume more amount of caffeine through coffee or tea. And because of more Caffeine, they increase the anxiety in themselves and reduce concentration and disturb their sleep. So we need to watch it over.

Also, we can start exercises like cardio exercises or yoga which are very good to reduce the excessive anxiety. So these are some lifestyle changes. We should fix our meal timing. Engage yourself in some sports activity.

Many people think that ayurvedic and homoeopathic medicines bring a cure. I don't deny managing these things. But if you are not getting benefit from ayurvedic and homoeopathic medicines, then switch to Allopathic medicine also. It brings relief within 1 or 2 months. We have many patients who improved to great extent.

The third barrier in the treatment is Stigma. People think that if we are going to a psychiatrist, then we are mental. Actually, it is not so. The person who develop stress and anxiety problem, are smarter than another person. That is why they are developing anxiety problem, they are anticipating more, developing more, they are more bothered.

So when you will see the good doctor, you will see the number of persons is coming for the treatment. Then you will realise that you are not alone. The other people are seeking for the treatment. So don't worry about the stigma, worry about your health and seek the treatment. And the treatments are easily available if you search a good doctor.

If you want to consult me, you can consult me through Lybrate.

Thank you.

I am aged 69 years smoking since last 45 years could not stop smoking now i want quiting smoking am worried of my bad habit even ready to be arrested in jail so as to stop smoking kindly guide me to overcome my this bad habit additionally i am a deaf dumb guvt retired person will be grateful if of any help from your team

45 years is a long time for tobacco?s chemicals to be coursing through your system. It has probably caused a lot of damage already. But it is never too late to stop. Although I do not know your reason to want to stop but it does sound compelling enough for you to want to even be jailed to keep you off of the cigarettes. You could instead consider admitting yourself into a hospital to detoxify your system to remove the physical craving to some extent and then you can work on the psychological conditioning and dependence. You can also admit yourself into any naturopathy or Ayurvedic institutes to help with the cessation of the smoking habit. They will gladly welcome you, and have had good success rates. You must stop smoking abruptly and immediately. You may use substitutes like nicotine chewing gums, nicotine patches, and electronic cigarettes to ease the craving in the beginning. Nicotine is the addictive substance in tobacco smoke that causes the dependence. There are various conditions tight through the day that your smoking is adapted to and at those times the craving will become very high. You must plan to distract your mind and your body with something more attractive and interesting to do and consume to temporarily stave off the urge. You need to give your decision to quit, wide publicity and keep the company of non-smokers for a long time. Start a good exercise program and healthy eating habits and diet. Work with a counselor through contracts, where both are obliged to support each other through the quitting phase. Do a complete medical check to see what health concerns have been caused by the extensive smoking and take care of those issues too. The decision to quit is a very good starting point, and the damage caused so far could be reversed to a large extent, adding a good many years to your life and saving on all the wasteful expenditure.

It is very natural at your age to have an urge of physical relationship and an intimate friend. You are only 20 and actually this is the prime time in your life to focus on your career. Please remember that what ever you can achieve by studying now, will be helpful for you for the rest of the life. If you get distracted now, your studies and career will suffer. And ultimately your future will be affected. So for the time being, do not do anything out of desperation. Do not fall under peer pressure to have a girl friend. For your sexual urge, you can try masturbation. You will be relieved of your tension. But please remember, masturbation is healthy only when you want to relieve yourself of sexual urge. It should not be done as a habit. Compulsive masturbation is harmful for your future relationship.
