I am very depressed about my height its 166 cms suggest any guaranteed method to grow taller I am ready to follow the...
There are methods by which you can gain centimeters of height. 1. Follow these exercises regularly and you get the goal of height gain: * first stand straight bare foot on floor, then raise your arms upwards then raise your heels of foot with breathing in, try to stand on heels for 10-12 seconds and slowly lower down your heels back on the floor and breath out the air. Repeat this exercise 5-8 times in morning. *sit on the floor, stretch you legs together so that both foot touch each other. Now raise your arms upwards together with back straight, now move your hands towards toes of feet and touch them. Your forehead touching your knees. Slowly revert back the arms and move back arms in normal position. Repeat this exercise 2-4 times daily. * first stand barefoot on flat surface, now move your heels upwards and raise your arms up. Start walk on the front part of feet with heels upwards. Walk At Least 8-10 steps. Repeat this exercise for 2-3 times in a day. 2. Take 300 ml of rich cream milk, 200 gm of cheese and 2-3 eggs regularly. It will definitely give boost to your bone growth. 3. Sit in sun rays for at least 8-10 minutes in morning of evenings when the sun rays are not so strong. It will help you by getting adequate quantity of vitamin-d. 4. The growth and height is controlled by growth hormone which is secreted by pituitary gland situated in the brain. So take meditation and have a stress free lifestyle. Take 6-8 hours of sleep daily. Meditation makes your pituitary gland healthy and working properly. 5. You can also adopt the surgical techniques which helps you gaining desired height. 6. You can take 1/2 teaspoon of dhatupaushtik churna of baidyanath daily with milk once a day.

Aged 47 years male ,am suffering from insomnia & body clock disorder, cannot sleep without 40 mg of Zolfrsh, and anxi...
Dear lybrate user...Anxiety with a feeling of being on the edge almost throughout the day causing significant functional impairment is suggestive of you having Anxiety Disorder. In your case not taking medications for anxiety disorder and just treating your insomnia will be a wrong management plan, as with anxiety a person will have difficulty falling asleep. Thus I would suggest to target and treat your anxiety and sleep problems simultaneously for a much better result. In case of your anxiety regarding sleep, I would suggest not to sleep during day at all, not to go to bed and force yourself to sleep during night time. Just wait and do some un-interesting work say reading some serious novel in a dim light away from your bed. Once you start feeling sleepy, get back to bed and sleep. Its a vicious cycle of not having sleep a night and you trying hard to sleep the next night thinking that sleep may not come. This forcing yourself to sleep is itself anxiety provoking and thus try not to go to bed until you feel sleepy. And yes if this is not sufficient than you may need the help of medications. Take care

I am addicted to chewing tobacco as well as smoking cigarettes. I cannot open my mouth fully. Please tell what exercises can I do. Now I do not use chewing tobacco. Sometimes I smoke.

MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Chennai
Nicotine is the active ingredient in cigarette and chewable tobacco. But there are hundreds of other carcinogens and psycho-active substances and they are highly dangerous to the physical and psychological health a person. People can smoke as unhealthy way of coping stress, part of nicotine withdrawal, to overcome short term depression and anxiety (which it worsens over a longer term). To overcome this the withdrawal needs to be addressed and anti craving medications started and comorbid anxiety, etc like psychological and constipation, etc like physical symptoms needs to be treated. So you kindly consult a psychiatrist to stop smoking. All the best.

Dear Lybrate user, At your age, Memory problems like amnesia are not common. Many young people are having problems with memory. These problems are either they are too busy or due to anxiety and stress. Busy people use organizers or employ a personal assistant because they can't remember every task. You need to understand this. If you still say, you are having memory problems, we need to check your memory using memory test. If you want more of my help in this regard, please contact me. Take care.

I am suffering from fever and body pains. What I have to do now? Can you give suggestions to me please.
Please take rhus tox 200 - thrice daily for next 3-4 days. Also -- soak a washcloth in cool tap water wring out the excess water and then sponge areas like your armpits, feet, hands and groin to reduce the temperature. Also, you can place cold, damp washcloths on your forehead and the back of your neck. The cloth pieces should be changed regularly after a few minutes. This remedy is beneficial when dealing with a high fever as it helps keep temperature under control. You can also take a bath in lukewarm water to relax your body. Taking a shower, however, may not be a good idea. Plus, needless to say, take as much rest as possible as it helps the body fight the illness. Note: do not use very cold water as it may cause the internal body temperature to increase.

Very serious and dangerous affects will be there even if there are no signs of it now. Take a look at these effects and then take a call in the direction of quitting it altogether. Summary: (Source:Center for Disease Control and Prevention) • Cigarette smoking causes more than 480,000 deaths each year in the United States. This is nearly one in five deaths. • More than 10 times as many U.S. citizens have died prematurely from cigarette smoking than have died in all the wars fought by the United States during its history. • Smoking causes about 90% (or 9 out of 10) of all lung cancer deaths in men and women.1,2 More women die from lung cancer each year than from breast cancer. • About 80% (or 8 out of 10) of all deaths from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are caused by smoking. • Cigarette smoking increases risk for death from all causes in men and women. • Smoking is estimated to increase the risk— o For coronary heart disease by 2 to 4 times o For stroke by 2 to 4 times o Of men developing lung cancer by 25 times • Of women developing lung cancer by 25.7 times • Smoking causes diminished overall health, increased absenteeism from work, and increased health care utilization and cost. • Smoking causes stroke and coronary heart disease. • Even people who smoke fewer than five cigarettes a day can have early signs of cardiovascular disease. • Smoking damages blood vessels and can make them thicken and grow narrower. This makes your heart beat faster and your blood pressure go up. Clots can also form. • Blockages caused by smoking can also reduce blood flow to your legs and skin. • Lung diseases caused by smoking include COPD, which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis. • Cigarette smoking causes most cases of lung cancer. • If you have asthma, tobacco smoke can trigger an attack or make an attack worse. • Smokers are 12 to 13 times more likely to die from COPD than nonsmokers. Smoking can cause cancer almost anywhere in your body: • Bladder • Blood (acute myeloid leukemia) • Cervix • Colon and rectum (colorectal) • Esophagus • Kidney and ureter • Larynx • Liver • Oropharynx (includes parts of the throat, tongue, soft palate, and the tonsils) • Pancreas • Stomach • Trachea, bronchus, and lung • Smoking can make it harder for a woman to become pregnant and can affect her baby's health before and after birth. Smoking increases risks for: o Preterm (early) delivery o Stillbirth (death of the baby before birth) o Low birth weight o Sudden infant death syndrome (known as SIDS or crib death) o Ectopic pregnancy o Orofacial clefts in infants • Smoking can also affect men's sperm, which can reduce fertility and also increase risks for birth defects and miscarriage. • Smoking can affect bone health. o Women past childbearing years who smoke have weaker bones than women who never smoked, and are at greater risk for broken bones. • Smoking affects the health of your teeth and gums and can cause tooth loss. • Smoking can increase your risk for cataracts (clouding of the eye’s lens that makes it hard for you to see) and age-related macular degeneration (damage to a small spot near the center of the retina, the part of the eye needed for central vision). • Smoking is a cause of type 2 diabetes mellitus and can make it harder to control. The risk of developing diabetes is 30–40% higher for active smokers than nonsmokers. • Smoking causes general adverse effects on the body, including inflammation and decreased immune function. • Smoking is a cause of rheumatoid arthritis.

I have a national concert (a series of shows) in less than a weeks time. I have been practising hard for the same suddenly as the day is approaching my voice is sounding more and more strained and even flat at times. I cannot sing in the scale I started with and with even an hour of singing my voice starts to feel sore and tends to break. There is no vibrato at all. I have tried gurgling with salt water and also tried taking steam. What can I do to keep my voice in place for the show next week?

I do not smoke weed regular. May be once in a whil but past few days I smoked it 4 times nd I even smoked cigarettes but in 15-20 day I have my medical test for merchant navy. Will it create any problem for me?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
No, it may not create any problem unless they are checking for weed consumption specifically. But this is a good eye-opener, do not smoke at all for your own good health. In your excitement of something happening you will want to enjoy that moment and will tend to consume more. Anyway, there is the problem of dependence and tolerance levels, which will grow over a period of time for everybody. You must just quit right away for your own good.

Shift working hours have issues related to time for relationship and getting body rhythm adjustment. To improve relationship with spouse 1. Have good communication about work timings. 2. Respect each others feelings and health needs. 3. Spend quality time whatever available. 4. Surprise your spouse with sudden getaway plan or a party with friends. 5. Discuss your plans regarding growth in your career at occasions.

Dear , everyone, one day or other, certainly goes through a negative phase in their life. Due to those their attitude changes. I think you have negative attitude problem. You must be able to distinguish between mental disease and mental disorder. Your problem is a mental disorder. Not a mental disease. Therefore no medicines are required. Mental disorder can be successfully treated with the help of awareness, meditation, psychotherapy techniques, life style changes etc. Take care.

At puberty as the size of your larynx grows, so also does the size and vibrations of your vocal cords, due to the production of testosterone in your body this unusual phenomenon of your voice change fluctuations will remain for a few months, your voice change will then settle down.

My name is rashmi singh. I am depressed with my life. And I am confused what I will do after marriage. Me.
By your question I can assume that you are getting married, and a little tension before marriage is obvious, but try to avoid the tension and maintain your confidence. As you are a strong person and if a woman decides, then she can do anything, woman is only the support system of the family, so you must not be in fear for you new life, instead you have to confident for that. As the life now you are going to start, will define you as an individual personality. Also there are few tips to reduce mental depression- mental depression can be managed by engaging yourself in other works, and by doing meditation in morning with little exercise. Avoid listening or watching any type of emotional songs or movies, instead watch comedy serials and remove the cause which is creating tension. Try to leave the bed in early morning and take a walk in nearby park with little exercise.

It appears that your wife is suffering from schizophrenia not depression. The medicines can have side effects that can cause giddiness and falls. So kindly get back to your doctor and get the dose adjusted. The might be other reasons for falls. Needs evaluation by a doctor.

How can I increase my memory? I forget things after some time. Please suggest me.

MD, MBBS
Psychiatrist, Delhi
Firstly you need to stop overthinking about it. Forgetting little things in everyday life is a normal thing but forgetting things which you think is creating a lot of distress, needs to be taken care of. Eat healthy food, with a lot of greens and proteins in your everyday life. Also go out for walk everyday.
