He most likely has stomach infection. Children don't tolerate the milk and solid foods in big amounts. It is best to give small amount of clear fluids frequently for a few hours after a syrup medicine to stop vomiting. You can try small amount of milk or semiisolid diet after 3-4 hours if no vomiting. Take him back to hospital if he is persistently vomiting.

Sir, I have twins (Girl & Boy) born on 02.05. 2015 (6 months + age). Whether it is good to feed them Oat meal to them? In what way it is better to prepare OAT meal? Only Boiling & after softening the OAT with water, adding milk product (Pro Nan 2), meal ready for baby. Is it safe method? Is OAT healthy to 6 month + age baby?

After six months of age, babies need complementary food along with breastmilk. Soft, home cooked meals are the best to start with. I am not sure why you are inclined towards oatmeal, but you can give it to the baby if it has been prepared to the right consistency. Try introducing soft fruits like bananas, pureed apple, etc.

Hi, my son's age is 1.5 yr. He was suffering from periodic fever (as per doctor) which was recurrent for 2 months and was coming every alternate week. Now he is ok but in the due course we have done some tests of cbc, crp, mp dual antigen and urine re & culture. Urine test is ok with a scanty bacteria shown. Blood test is ok hb is 12.6 and the other components are ok only the concern is that the rbc is a bit small. Doctor prescribed iron tonic for 6 months. My question is is this a concern for having rbc a bit small? as doctor said to keep in observation for sometime. My baby is active with no weight loss or growth hamper till date. Please advice. Thank you in advance for your help.

General Physician,
Please send all reports for proper advice. You can send them by ask privately option. The periodic fever syndromes' (also known as autoinflammatory diseases or autoinflammatory syndromes) are a set of disorders characterized by recurrent episodes of systemic and organ-specific inflammation. Unlike autoimmune disorders such as systemic lupus erythematosus, in which the disease is caused by abnormalities of the adaptive immune system, patients with autoinflammatory diseases do not produce autoantibodies or antigen-specific t or b cells. Instead, the autoinflammatory diseases are characterized by errors in the innate immune system. The syndromes are diverse, but tend to cause episodes of fever, joint pains, skin rashes, abdominal pains and may lead to chronic complications such as amyloidosis. Most autoinflammatory diseases are genetic and present during childhood. The most common genetic autoinflammatory syndrome is familial mediterranean fever, which causes short episodes of fever, abdominal pain, serositis, lasting less than 72 hours. It is caused by mutations in the mefv gene, which codes for the protein pyrin.

My son 2 years 4 months old. He is thin and doesn't have good eater. Kindly suggest any good syrup for him.

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Faridabad
Basic principle is six meals per day,one large and one small meal. Alternative meals are heavy (3-4fist) size and light (2-3 fist) size. Minimum gap between meals is three hours and no intermediate eating (grasing). Allow your baby to eat himself and give him maximum 20 minutes and withdraw the good. Next meal must be offered 3hours later. No grasing. Most children are anaemic, so any iron syrup 5ml once a day is good enough to stumilate apetite.

No, avoid bottle and formula feeds. I personally believe mothers of such small child should feed for ten times a day. Child sucks for few minutes and then stops.

Hello doctor, Please tell me any medicine to control bed wetting for my two year children.

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
Hello doctor, Please tell me any medicine to control bed wetting for my two year children.
Bed wetting in small children not only required medicines but a proper management is also required from your side.In order to control bed wetting problem of your child you must have proper knowledge of the exact reason of this problem. Actually normally a normal human being can retain urine in his bladder even for hours even if bladder is full because our mind controls the opening of Bladder valve. But sometimes this control breaks due to some reasons in elderly like old age,Uterine prolapse or displacement in females,Diabetes to name a few.But in small school going children it is a common problem and in majority of cases in children while sleeping the contact between their mind and bladder is broken and this is the reason why children cant feel their bedwetting problem even after urinating and continue with their sleep. There are a number of factors which leads to this problem but the main being Worms ,Excessive cold,Weak nervous system due to which whenever bladder fill slightly with urine,it exerts pressure on the valvular opening and while sleeping their mind-bladder control is not working, slight pressure on valve make it open and urine passes out without knowledge of the child. In some children this can happen while they are awake also. So our main aim while treating is to 1.set up a control betweem Mind and bladder 2.Try to remove all the causative factors 3.Try to make pass the urine of the child before hand time to time during the day so that there is no urine left in bladder so that no pressure is exerted on U.bladder valve. 4.Start giving medicines which will set up a contact between Mind and Bladder valve. 5.To start Pelvic Floor Muscles Stregthening exercises called KEGELS EXERCISE in teenage children and Mature people as small children cant do these exercises. Homoeopathic treatment R-74 Drops ( Dr Reckeweg) Drink 5 drops in 1 spoon fresh water 3 times daily ENUROSAN or BOOUME 42 ( BIOFORCE) Drink 1 spoon twice daily Before starting the above 2 medicines first give below given medicine for 5 days and start the above medicines from 6th day D-WORM ( ADVEN) Drink 1 spoon twice daily for 5 days.Finish the bottle. Repeat the above medicines for 3 months. Management by Parents during this course 1.Stop all fluids at night 2 hours before sleep like water, milk, and fluids of all kind including liquid vegetables. 2.For first 45 days set up an alarm in the middle of night 30 minutes before when you think that the probability of your child urinating during sleep at that particular time is high.Make this time adjustments in next few days and void urine of your child at that time to relieve Bladder valve from pressure. It is difficult but you have to do it for your child. 3.See that your child doesnot put on weight by letting him eat fatty food and cold drinks.

Missing Teeth and Problems Associated With It

Missing Teeth and Problems Associated With It

A loss of tooth or teeth is one of the biggest dental problems that someone can face. The irony is that people consider loss of teeth to be very insignificant. But in reality loss of teeth can lead to not only cosmetic problems, but also functional problems and an unstable chewing mechanism.

Loss of teeth can lead to many problems. Some of them are:

  1. Supra eruption of opposing teeth
  2. Compromised efficiency of chewing
  3. Adjacent teeth might drift into the space created by missing teeth
  4. Food tend to accumulate between teeth, which have moved
  5. Food accumulation also leads to periodontal disease and caries
  6. A lopsided chewing pattern as there is loss of equilibrium in the mechanism of chewing
  7. The extracted area might reveal a loss of bone height
  8. Problems of the temporomandibular joints, like closed bite and TMJ osteoarthritis
  9. The existing functional teeth might lead to problems due to overload
  10. There are increased chances of cheek biting due to collapse of the cheek in the missing space, thus leading to functional and cosmetic problems
  11. The frequency of tongue biting and ulceration might increase in the area of missing teeth or tooth

When missing teeth are replaced, one can easily restore the healthy look of the teeth and also prevent any other dental problems which are due to the missing teeth.

While replacement of the missing teeth it is of utmost importance that the equilibrium is maintained with the distribution of the forces caused by chewing. Care is also taken that the cosmetic outlook is also maintained in the treatment.

Ideally the teeth when extracted or lost should be immediately replaced. This is because the replacement prevents the bone resorption or bone loss in the area and also retains the good bone. But a drawback is that such an immediate replacement might lead to limitation. Immediate treatment is usually done with the help of implants which easily fit in the sockets created by extraction. But even for this an analysis of the bone and gum health is necessary, thus leading to only a few instances for such replacements. Other alternative is that immediate removable dentures can be prepared and these can be replaced once the gums of the area have healed. The time period for this is usually 3 months. If these need to be fixed permanently then a waiting period of 3 months is mandatory for the settling and healing of the gums and bone of the area.

The 3 basic ways of fixing missing teeth are through implants, fixed bridgework (bridges and crowns) and dentures, which can be removed.
