How can I reduce my waist and hips.

Certified Diabetes Educator, Registered Dietitian (RD), PGDD, Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (B.U.M.S), General Physician
Dietitian/Nutritionist,
How can I reduce my waist and hips.
Let me know your food intake details. The best diet is one which is healthy and well balanced with foods from all the food groups, and one which is varied and that you can stick to weight loss on some diets can be dramatic in the short term, but there's more of a chance of rebound weight gain. Set yourself a realistic target and aim to lose between (0.5-1.0kg) a week I strongly accommodate the patient's own preferences without the patient feeling that they are on a diet not compromising the weight management goals. Don't fall for self dieting or fad diets available online they have harmful effects in the long run, if you lose a lot of weight very quickly, you may not lose as much fat as you would with a more modest rate of weight loss. Instead, you might lose water weight or even lean muscle tissue, since it's hard to burn that many fat calories in a short period. After assessing your personal challenges to weight loss, one can recommend a strategy to gradually change habits and attitudes that have sabotaged your past efforts. Also the overall objective should not be to drastically reduce weight but doing it gradually and help rebuild body tissues and to maintain ideal body weight.

You are being treated for Generalized anxiety disorder and this medication is the lowest dose. You should never discontinue medication without doctor's advice. The symptoms you describe are typical side effects of this medicine. Hello Doctor, my psychiatric doctor prescribed me Fortinerv, Depran -5, klonaz md 0.25 1st and 3rd is for the morning and the 2nd one is for night as I told him to reduce my medication and I want to stop having medication. By giving this prescription am I able to get rid of this medication slowly? I think that before you ask your doctor to reduce your medication, make sure you are complying with all the requirements as prescribed. Now if you are serious to want to reduce the medication, you must also work with a counselor and develop some skills and techniques to help you cope with the daily challenges of this condition. Then, as you improve in behavior and coping skills, the doctor will reduce the medication but in such a manner that it will help tease the brain to produce the same naturally. You must also develop your constitution to make it fit enough to cope with fear, felt many times unnecessarily. You may be taking normal fear and converting it into abnormal fear like anxiety and so on. Take care of the following: Mental stability can be achieved by learning a few skills in handling emotions in an appropriate manner. Stress management skills, which have a lot to do with expressing emotions, will need to be a major part of your recovery program. Emotionally you need the help of a counselor and that will help you tremendously to move from anxiety to normal fear. Please persevere and cooperate through all the support you need and you will come through successfully. Develop your body’s health by physical fitness through exercise, good rest (sleep), and a proper diet. Any way what you need to focus on is to do vigorous exercise of the aerobic kind for the heart’s fitness; meditation for the brain’s fitness; sleep for a well rested mind and body; a sound spiritual well being for good confidence and stability; and a diet with lots of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. Vigorous exercise, especially of the callisthenic kind, will make your heart, which is a muscle, grow larger; and then your heart will need to beat less often and you will respond to the anxiety with a calmer disposition. If your mind, constitution, and your emotions are in check and fit, you will never be disturbed again. The earlier you tackle this, the easier it is going to be.

Psoriasis - How it Effects Your Skin?

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Dermatologist, Delhi
Psoriasis - How it Effects Your Skin?

An often persistent and long-lasting condition, psoriasis interferes with the life cycle of skin cells and causes them to increase rapidly on the surface of the skin. These generally appear as dry, itchy and red patches of skin having thick, silvery scales.

Psoriasis can be subdivided into the following:

  1. Plaque psoriasis: The most common form, characterized by dry, red skin lesions covered with silvery scales and can be seen anywhere on the body.
  2. Scalp psoriasis: These appear on the scalp and may extend beyond the hairline.
  3. Nail psoriasis: These affect the toenails and fingernails.
  4. Guttate psoriasis: Characterized by blister-like appearances and are stimulated by bacterial infections.
  5. Inverse psoriasis: Caused by fungal infections.
  6. Erythrodermic psoriasis: Can cover the entire body with a reddish rash that may peel.
  7. Pustular psoriasis: Capable of causing chills, fever and diarrhea.

The usual signs and symptoms of psoriasis include:

  • Red, sensitive patches of skin
  • A silvery, scaly cover
  • Dry and cracked skin that may bleed when scratched or agitated
  • Tiny scaling spots (witnessed in children)
  • Persistent itching, soreness or burning sensation
  • Ridged, thickened or pitted nails
  • Stiff and swollen joints

Possible causes of psoriasis may include:

  1. Skin infections or strep throat infections
  2. Stress
  3. Skin injuries, like cuts, bites or sunburns
  4. Smoking
  5. Cold weather
  6. Chronic alcoholism
  7. Certain medications such as high blood pressure medications

Risk factors

The following factors may further increase the risk of developing the disease:

  1. Fungal and bacterial infections
  2. Family history
  3. Obesity
  4. Stress
  5. Smoking

Ayurveda and Psoriasis

Although the root cause of the disease is yet to be identified, according to traditional Ayurveda, the vitiation of Vata and Kapha causes psoriasis. As per ayurvedic principles, Vata and Kapha are the two basic energies that uphold the balance of our body equilibrium. Strong genetic predisposition, sun deprivation, and intense streptococcal infection on the upper respiratory tract can badly aggravate psoriasis. As per ayurveda, these conditions are strong enough to create several visible pathological changes that take place are mainly due to the accumulation of dooshi vishas or low potency poisons.

Uneven and unhealthy food habits, consumption of foodstuffs in the wrong combination (Example: dairy products with fish or chicken), too much intake of yogurt, black gram, seafood, sour or salted food stuffs, etc. can trigger the psoriasis inducing pathogenesis. Other catalysts that cause psoriasis includes stress, alcohol, and tobacco consumption

Psoriasis can be effectively treated through panchakarma therapies, which include ayurvedic treatment methods for the complete detoxification of the body, and successful elimination of harmful toxins from the body fluids.

A few health tips for psoriasis patients:

  1. Maintain safer distance from the possible variables that cause or aggravate psoriasis
  2. Practice yoga regularly. Yoga can lessen the intensity of psoriasis.
  3. Avoid pricking, peeling or scratching your skin.
  4. Make sure to pat your skin dry after washing, and avoid rubbing vigorously with towel or any rough cloth.
  5. Avoid artificial cleansers and use gram flour (besan flour) instead.
  6. Use cotton clothes
  7. Avoid cold water bath or immediate cleaning up right after heavy work-out, long walks, or travel.
  8. Avoid food stuffs that can cause indigestion.
  9. Avoid excessive salty and acidic food stuffs, radish, urad dal, sesame, jaggery (gur), curds, fish and other sour food stuffs that can trigger psoriasis.

I'm suffering from back ache since last 2 years, for better result what should I do?

I'm suffering from back ache since last 2 years, for better result what should I do?
This is a general low back ache and for this you can follow these measures: one keep a pillow right under the knee while sleeping, next is you can keep ice in the painful area for about 5--10 minutes, if pain still persists you can stretch your body by twisting the waist on both sides how we used to do in the school drill similarly you can try which will help you relax as well will reduce the pain. Ice can be kept in the low back where you have back pain. It is suggestible to wear lumbo sacral belt which would help you to build the abdominal muscle tone which itself would make you feel better. You can also wear mcr chappals which would help you to have less weight falling in the painful back.

Stave off five complications following laparoscopic surgery

IAGES, MS, MBBS
General Surgeon, Noida
Stave off five complications following laparoscopic surgery

Laparoscopic surgery is also known as minimally invasive surgery. It leads to a lesser amount of pain after the surgery, and therefore requires less medication also. It reduces the possibility of hemorrhage, thereby, lowering the possibility of requiring blood transfusion. The smaller length and depth of the incision also means that the patient recovers from the surgery faster than usual. There is also a lesser chance of contracting infections because a larger number of organs remain unexposed and therefore uncontaminated. Laparoscopic surgeries also cause smaller, lighter scars once the surgery wound heals completely.

However, as with any surgery, complications may occur during the course of laparoscopic surgery.

  1. Wound infection: Even though laparoscopic surgery is minimally invasive and the possibility of contracting infections is considerably less, the wound is capable of getting infected. Hence, it is essential to maintain the cleanliness and hygiene recommendations provided by the concerned medical staff. It is also assumed that the surgeons would prevent this possibility by maintaining strict protocols regarding this issue on their part.
  2. Bruising: After surgery, depending on the type and duration of the procedure, the patient is always advised to follow certain restrictions regarding mobility and restriction of normal day to day functioning. These rules must be followed in order to prevent the possibility of bruising after a laparoscopic surgery.
  3. Hematoma formation: A hematoma is an accumulation of blood outside the blood vessel. This is not normal at all and requires urgent inspection and treatment. This is a relatively common complication that happens after a laparoscopic surgical procedure. Precautions are taken by surgeons to avoid this but it may still occur. It needs to be diagnosed early, and then the bleeding vessel needs to be emobilized selectively in order to reduce any further complication of this type.
  4. Anesthesia related complications: To prevent anesthesia related complications during laparoscopic surgery, it is essential that procedures related to the airways, ventilation, analgesia, antimetics are followed in the preoperative state.
  5. Injury: Any injury that may be inflicted on the blood vessels present in the walls of the abdomen or on the sidewall in the pelvic region, as well as injuries in the bowel area and the urinary tract. Proper protocol must be followed by the doctor to avoid such complications as much as possible. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor.

The psychologist who told there is no medicine to cure anxiety is a quack (non-medico), trying to portray he knows everything. It s easy for you to google and find there are wonderful medicines for anxiety, but should be taken with psychiatrist advise only. Anxiety occurs due to reduced Serotonin levels/ transmission in the mind (brain), when SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) are given, this is restored and the symtpoms resolve in 2-6 weeks. Kindly do not consult many quacks (non-medical, yappers) in this forum and in reality, who know nothing about medicine, but use prefix as doctors and behave like medical doctors advising innocent people like you wrongly.
