Dear Doctor, We have a patient of schizophrenia having auditory hallucinations and is under medication from Aiims Delhi. Because she has gained weight as side effects of medication we have been advised to give her Herb garcinia Cambodia You are requested to kindly advise if there is any side effects or interaction with the medication in allopathy. Thanks.

Psychiatrist, Bangalore
Dear Rajender, Most of the allopathy doctors know interaction with other allopathic medicines. They know very few interaction with herbs. So far i have not come across any study with the herb garcinia cambodia. You can ask the doctor who prescribed the herb, she/he might have some knowledge. But, there are good treatment available in allopathy itself to reduce weight. 1. Shift her to weight neutral medicines. 2. Life style modification with dietician. 3. Metformin or Topiramate. Please discuss with AIIMS doctors for these treatments.

If you are indeed a type 2 diabetic, then there are more tablets available that could be used. However, some persons who are initially thought to be type 2 diabetics are infact having other types of diabetes which might require insulin. If you are the latter type, then only insulin n might not suffice.

I am 27 years old I am male I am suffering from hair falling my scalp visible clearly.

Dermatologist, Mumbai
There are various reasons for hair loss. It can be nutritional, stress related. Acute illness, chronic illness can also trigger it. It is important to understand whether it is hair fall or it is hair thinning. Both has different causative reasons. Thinning is hormone related genetic problem. It is progressive by nature. Hair is minerals, protein and iron. Eat food which is rich in all these. Oil the scalp 3/week and wash it 3/week.

You can start Gym but dont lift weightss above shoulder levels. And nor you should take protein powders but try to take maximumprotein fromyour diet by eating more protein diet. 1. Protein is the key for the muscle building. Without adequate protein, muscle gain and growth is not possible because weight training demands for amino acids (which comes from protein). You should daily eat about 2.2g of protein per kilogram of your weight. For example, if you are 50kg , then you should eat 50x2.2=111g of protein spread over 5-6 meals in the day. Include high protein foods in your diet. Your protein intake should be from foods rather than from supplements. Good protein foods: beans, soybeans, whey, fish, dairy products (low fat variety), meats, nuts and seeds (almonds, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds), peanut butter. Many of these are easy digestible foods. Milk is one of the best muscle foods. The milk contains two high quality proteins, about 80 percent whey and 20 percent casein. Whey is quickly broken down into amino acids and absorbed into the bloodstream. Whey is very good to consume after workout. Casein is digested more slowly and provides the body with a steady supply of protein for a longer period of time. Cheese is concentrated milk, so it is high in protein and calcium, fat and cholesterol. Include healthy skim yogurt in your diet, which can give you as much as 120 calories

I am 34 year old I'm having stomach problem from 2 year now my ogd scopy done and I find mild antral gastritis and all things normal I am feeling so stressful I am having a medicine essmo 40 but still r not feeling well what I do now.

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Ayurveda, Chitiradurga
Dear lybrate-user, I am very much concerned about your issue. Antral gastritis is very common in present days situation due to consumption of junk food, untimely food, etc. As a sincere ayurveda follower and practitioner, I would recommend you following: 1) wake up early, sleep early. 2) do not take more of spicy, salted items. 3) gap between 2 foods should not be more than 4 hours. 4) take ample amount of liquid. 5) avoid fruits having pungent taste. 6) take milk twice a day. 7) gap between dinner and sleep should be minimum 90 minutes. 8) do not get stressful. You need medicines for time being till you get physically well. For the prescription, I need to ask certain other questions. Do chat with me privately for more accurate prescription and other diet issues.

I have been suffering from back pain for nearly ten years. Could you suggest me the food to take in order to lessen that pain and make the back stronger.

MBBS, Diploma In Orthopaedics (D. Ortho)
Orthopedist, Lucknow
Hi some foods like Papaya are said to be good for cartilage, disc in spine. Omega3 fatty acids from fish oil, or fish like mackerel, tuna are said to have anti inflammatory properties. But as doctor meghana advises, diagnosis of cause of pain ,pathology has to be confirmed and proper investigation and tests, medication, physical measures, therapy have to be priority, good and modified food, supplements are supportive measures to minimise inflammation but not the only remedy. Some naturopathy, other alternative management are all supportive and often helpful too.
