I am a diabetic since last 3 years. I am not too fat. I tried ayurvedic medication but nothing worked. Prescribe some medicine for normal daily life.

Try to take a teaspoon of methi powder early morning and bedtime. But remember no food works in isolation. It has to be coupled with a planned healthy diet. I would suggest you go for a personalised diet plan for yourself.

I am a 39yr old male person facing the problem of thyroid for the last 6yr and I am being treated by taking medicine regularly. So suggest me how can I improve my life style by getting rid or minimize this problem. What type of foods should I take and what not to be done.

Dietary recommendations: avoid foods high in iodine, such as seafood, iodised salt, eggs, curd, and milk. Eat cruciferous vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli, preferably raw. Green leafy vegetables like mustard greens, spinach and kale are believed to depress the function of your thyroid. Consume flaxseed oil and ground flaxseeds, as they are ideal sources for omega 3 fatty acids and vitamin d from eggs, salmon, mackerel and mushrooms. Soybeans and soy products can help an over-stimulated thyroid. Whole grains like millet and brown rice, combined with nuts and seeds are rich sources of zinc, an important element necessary for the body functions that might be depleted due to hyperthyroidism. Avoid alcohol, smoking, tea, coffee, colas, and chocolates. Take a high potency b-complex supplement daily to replenish the b vitamins used up for increased metabolism.

Dear Jegan, Yes.. you can.. you need to understand that you need to keep your sugars under control while trying for a baby. This will protect your baby. Also try to avoid physical relationship with your wife if you are having any fungal infection on your genitals as you may transmit it to your wife.

Dear Doctor, Mr. Konda Haridas is my relative who had his right knee injured a month back. He is a diabetic and obese. I earnestly request for your kindest advice in this regards. Yours Truly Rathnashikamani Kalpakkam India.

Dear Doctor,
Mr. Konda Haridas is my relative who had his right knee injured a month back.
He is a diabetic and obese...
Thanks for the query. For a diabetic it is best advised to have a diet planned as per the sugar levels, lifestyle and history. Though you can follow some guidelines - Have small frequent meals. Do not fast for long hours. Avoid a very heavy meal at one time. Avoid fruit juices, aerated drinks or sugarcane juice, honey, jaggery or sugar. Avoid junk foods. Stay active. Right now you can still do some exercises that doesn't need to pressure your knees. Do not attempt to try out too many remedies as you could go into hypoglycaemia. Sleep well. It's all a matter of discipline.

What was the main symptoms of diabetes and what precautions take in diabetes to prevent from it.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
What was the main symptoms of diabetes and what precautions take in diabetes to prevent from it.
Diabetes mellitus invariably does not cause any symptoms, that is one of the reason why people do not realise that they have problem. When fully developed may cause excess urination, excess hunger, excess thirst, unexplained weight loss and tiredness. In most patients detection of diabetes is by chance. There are two types t1 dm where there is no insulin produced, an autoimmune disease, most often starts in early age. Second is t2 dm a familial disease, most common form. It is a preventable disease. If one maintains normal weight, takes a controlled diet, exercises regularly avoids too much of sweets, junk foods, pastries and sweetened aerated drinks then there is a possibility preventing or postponing t2 dm.
