I have pcod since 5 years. I have taken treatment for 4 years but now docs says to go for operation. I am married 2 years back nd we have not planed for kids due to pcod problem. Is there any medicine to cure permanently from root. Sum medicine's won't suite me.

MBBS, DGO, MD, Fellowship in Gynae Oncology
Gynaecologist, Delhi
Pcod is more a lifestyle disorder and cured by lifestyle chances only. It does not have any permanent cure. Along with medicine lifestyle and dietary modification can help. Regular exercise, a healthy diet, weight control, and not smoking are all important parts of treatment for polycystic ovary syndrome (pcos). If you are overweight, weight loss may be all the treatment you need. Eat a balanced diet that includes lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy products. Get regular exercise to help you control or lose weight and feel better. If you smoke, consider quitting.

Take urine pregnancy test to confirm if unprotected sex happens ,if test becomes negative, then don't worry, it may be due to hormonal imbalance.

Hi doctor! I'm 17 years old and the first day of my last cycle was somewhere between December 28- January 1. On 28th of January me and my partner were fooling around but we didn't indulged in any kind of direct intercourse and we were lying on the bed with our clothes on. He felt a little precum that had come over his jeans, with his fingers. 3-5 minutes after that he rubbed me from over my pants for a minute and from inside for another minute before fingering me inside.(for less than a minute). Now its 25th of February and I'm still waiting for my periods to start. I've no pregnancy symptoms except my breast have increased in size a little. I've had 4 negative HPT's all in the morning with proper instructions. (2 on 18th of February and 2 on the present day). What's happening with me can I be pregnant? {also, on 7th of November I've taken a emergency contraceptive pill within 5 hours of him fingering me, I've got 2 periods since then can it be the reason for my late/missed period?}

For getting prgnancy enough amount of semen has to be deposited inside the vagina. Only fingering can not make u pregnant and u dont have to take ipill only for fingering. If semen in deposited in the vagina then only u have to take ipill. As of now ur menses are not even overdue as 29 feb is yet to come. Even if they dont come on time, there is no need to get panicked as u cant get pregnant only with fingering. With stress and hormonal changes menses can get delayed

My wife is 31 years old she got pregnant after 3 years without any medical assistance and we went for a ultrasound around the 40th day which said the egg is formed well in uterus and asked to go for another scan after 2 weeks but in the scan after 8 weeks it shows that there is no fetal pole or yolk sac and they asked us to go for beta hcg and now the hcg value shows 22541mui/ml which is quiet good what does this really mean?

Hello, This is an embryonic gestation with a foetal pole and at 8 weeks if no foetal pole then you may wait for another 2 weeks and check for arrival of foetal pole, if not then D&C is the option.

Hi Doctor! I am 28 and recent report shows I don't have PCODs, irregular periods or no periods for long time have been a part of my life till now, but recent report shows I don't have PCODs and still I don't get periods. Is is dangerous - even worse than having PCODs and no periods? I am married since last year but we stay in different cities so my sex life is not that much. Is not having PCODs related to sex life, is this betterment because of this?

Its good if you don't have pcod, you need to be happy. It is very good everything will settle down once you settle in relationships with husband. Meanwhile for irregular periods just directly consult a sexologist and understand your body's sexual physiology. Avoid taking menses and pregnancy on head and stop worrying. Improve your sexual life and bonding with guidance from an expert. Relax and act as I said. Go for solutions.

Somatic Symptom Disorder

Somatic Symptom Disorder

Somatic symptom disorder is when you put so much focus on symptoms such as pain or fatigue that you have trouble functioning or experience severe emotional distress. You will be visiting the doctor a lot, completely unnecessarily and will waste a lot of money when you have no major health concerns. However, there are treatments, which can help you cope with this problem. Read further to find out what they are:

Symptoms

  1. Worrying excessively about an illness, which has not yet occurred
  2. Frequent health care visits
  3. Fear of physical activity damaging your body
  4. Fearing that the evaluation of doctors is not adequate

There are many more symptoms, which may indicate that you are suffering from somatic symptom disorder. However, the most important way of telling whether someone is suffering from somatic symptom disorder or not is to see whether the patient is overly worried about a physical problem, which has not yet occurred. One of the first steps in making sure that this does not happen is finding out what causes the problem and preventing it. Here are the causes of somatic symptom disorder.

Causes: As with other psychological disorders, the exact cause of somatic symptom disorder is not yet known. However, there are a number of factors which may increase the risk of it, such as:

  1. Genetic and biological factors: These as well as an increased sensitivity to pain are some of the factors, which you have no control over.
  2. Environment you grew up in: Just like the genes you have, the environment you grew up in and your family influence will have a major impact on whether you develop the condition as well.
  3. Problems processing emotions: When people have problems processing emotions, their physical symptoms seem like a bigger problem than they actually are.

Treatment: Luckily, there are treatments for this disorder as well, which include.

  1. Psychotherapy: Psychotherapy is the most common treatment used to help people with somatic symptom disorder.
  2. Medications: Since depression and pain often occur when a person is suffering from somatic symptom disorder, antidepressants can be given as well.

What is PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)?

PCOS is a condition which can affect a woman's menstrual cycle, fertility, hormones and aspects of appearance. It can also affect long term health.
Symptoms
1. Irregular periods or no periods at all
2. Difficulty becoming pregnant (reduced fertility)
3. Having more facial or body hair than is usual for you (hirsutism)
4. Being overweight, rapid increase in weight, difficulty losing weight
5. Oily skin, acne
6. Depression and mood swings

The cause of PCOS is not yet known. PCOS sometimes runs in families. If any of your relatives (mother, sister or aunts) are affected with PCOS, your own risk of developing PCOS is increased. The symptoms of PCOS are related to abnormal hormone levels. Hormones are chemical messengers which control body functions. Insulin is a hormone which regulates the level of glucose (a type of sugar) in the blood.

If you have PCOS, your body may not respond to the hormone insulin (known as insulin resistance, so the level of glucose is higher). To prevent the glucose levels becoming higher, your body produces more insulin. High levels of insulin can lead to weight gain, irregular periods, infertility and higher levels of testosterone.

This disorder affects the function of the ovaries, which produce eggs and the hormones oestrogen and progesterone. As the ovaries aren't working properly, eggs may not be released in a regular monthly cycle.
