I am 65 years old I am suffering from varicose veins in left foot also neuropathy for that I taken pregab75 one daily...
For burning sensation n neuropathy our herbal medicine works very effectively; as its age related problem. Due to old age you r also suffering from blood pressure; our herbs also helps to keep your vessels clean to avoid blockage in vessels through which you will stay away from paralysis or heart attack; so you may go for our herbs. Varicose veins cannot be treated effectively by any pathy so don't try to treat them as it may harm your body. Just do pranayam n few yogasanas if possible; consult with me for more details.

Is Sleep Paralysis a Symptom of a Serious Problem? Yesterday left side full not sense (top to bottom like head, hand and leg) this is 1st time happening to me.

MBBS, Master In Health Science
Neurologist, Mumbai
Usually sleep paralysis affects the entire body and is part of narcolepsy which includes cataplexy (neck quickly losing power e.f. While Laughing) and excessive daytime sleepiness. Since your episode was so asymmetric you should be very intensively evaluated to rule out a transient loss of blood supply to one part of your brain (a transient ischaemic attack or TIA)

Keeping the fingers in water for long duration will lead to this and it is common for all. If you have only numbness in the fingers. Please show it to some neurophysician or send more details.

I am 44 years old I have numbness in my left leg thigh when I am sitting in my chair it feels uncomfortable and also when I am riding my bike. This problem was there for me couple of years but now only I can feel the severity I had consulted doctor and got medicinal treatment but I don't feel satisfied. So please let me know how to proceed for the solution.

Dip. SICOT (Belgium), MNAMS, DNB (Orthopedics), MBBS
Orthopedist, Delhi
Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Numbness in your thigh region could commonly be due to two reasons: - it could be radiation from spine region if there is a compression of a nerve there, so please tell me whether you have back pain issues, or did you have them previously? - other reason could be entrapment of lateral cutaneous nerve, a condition called a meralgia, but the symptoms are usually more towards outer aspect of thigh. Actually if you have the first one, mri is then the best investigation because we cannot allow numbness because of compression in spine to remain there for a long time. For the second option, we can give a good trial of physical therapy to see how you are doing, and then also add some medicines kindly let me know and if possible please attach doctor's prescription papers and investigations done by you till now for the existing problem. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

All depends on size of bleed. Mostly surgery is not required and bleed gets absorbed over a period of time. Power may improve with time continue physiotherapy.

Mr. Lybrate-user, you should have been on thyroxine hormone, as tsh is too high, showing severe hypothyroidism. Plus you will have to avoid soy beans, soy containing products, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, radish, peanuts and coffee. Consume good deal of green leafy vegetables, salads and fruits. Use whole grain flour for chapati nad roti. Do not use food made of refined flour like maida. Plus you will have to take a restricted diet that provides exact calories based on ideal body weight (80 kgs). Your bmi is 34.87 kgs showing grade 2 obesity. Most important is immediate tsh reduction. Thanks for the question.

Migraine - Know The Causes and Symptoms!

MD - General Medicine, MBBS
General Physician, Mumbai
Migraine - Know The Causes and Symptoms!

Migraine is a severe form of headache wherein, the excruciating pain is accompanied by an extreme sensitivity to sound and light; you also experience nausea. The headaches usually affect either side of the head and are throbbing in nature. Hot flashes, numbness of limbs and blind spots in the eye; these are often considered as warnings. In certain cases, migraines can cause blackouts that can range from a few seconds to a few minutes.

Migraine occurs in four stages:

  1. Pro-drome (symptom indicative of an onset of an illness)
  2. Aura (visual auras including blurred vision)
  3. Headache
  4. Post-drome (the residual effects of migraine characterized by fatigue and lethargy)

But the occurrence of these stages varies across individuals. The causes of migraines aren’t specifically understood. It may be due to the interaction of the brain stem with the trigeminal nerve, which is an important pain pathway of the brain. Imbalances in hormonal levels or in the levels of neurotransmitters such as serotonin may also prove to be a causal factor.

Symptoms

Migraine may be triggered due to stress, physical exertion, and excess intake of alcohol or food additives such as MSG (Monosodium Glutamate). Changes in the environment and sleeping patterns may also be probable culprits.

Migraine can be easily distinguished from regular headaches, given the fact that migraines last longer and are rather severe in nature with pain felt in one part of the head. Most people experience the ‘Aura’stage where they have visual flashes right before headache. Nausea, eye pain or sensitivity to light and sound are other factors helpful in distinguishing migraine from other headaches.

Symptoms can occur a while before headache, immediately before headache, during headache and after headache. Although not all migraines are the same.

Typical symptoms include:

  • Moderate to severe pain, usually confined to one side of the head during an attack, but can occur on either side of the head
  • The pain is usually a severe, throbbing, pulsing pain
  • Increasing pain during physical activity
  • Inability to perform regular activities due to pain
  • Feeling sick and physically being sick
  • Increased sensitivity to light and sound, relieved by lying quietly in a darkened room
  • Some people experience other symptoms such as sweating, temperature changes, tummy ache and diarrhea.

Complications in migraine may include:

  1. Chronic migraine which last up to 15 days or more
  2. Status Migrainosus where the attacks last for over 3 days
  3. Migrainous infarction where the aura lasts longer than it should, cutting blood supply to the brain.

If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a neurologist.

Any alternative treatment for pituitary macroadenoma of size 4.5×4.7cm? I would not like to go for surgery.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Pituitary macroadenomas often require surgical intervention for cure. The exceptions to this rule are the macroprolactinomas, which usually have an excellent response to medical therapy. The tumor size may be diminished but often does not disappear completely. Medical treatment can play a role in reducing tumor size, controlling hormonal excess, or correcting hormonal deficiency.

My grand mother is suffering from Parkinson but the bigger problem is that she gets fainted when she walks or sits. Is there any thing by which she can walk properly or even sit properly. Her age is about 75 years. She has problem of even getting up from bed.

FRACP, DM - Neurology
Neurologist, Ludhiana
She probably has postural hypotension. Bp has to be checked in lying and standing position. If it drops by more than 20 mm then she will need medications. Alternatively she may be having multisystem atropy or drug induced bp fall on standing.
