Hi I am 51 years old and pain in shoulder for last 2 months. It is very difficult to lift something

Dip. SICOT (Belgium), MNAMS, DNB (Orthopedics), MBBS
Orthopedist, Delhi
Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Shoulder pain could be due to many reasons like bursitis, tendinitis, capsular involvement, impingement etc. I would like to ask you regarding the onset of pain and cause of it? have you got any relevant investigations/treatment done for it till now? normally if there is no swelling or any other sign of inflammation, you can start with - physical therapy - anti inflammatory medicine for 7-10 days ice packs at home 3-4 times in a day - adequate calcium and vitamin d intake as per requirement. If your pain does not subside with this, then we will have to consider getting some tests like x ray to see joint degeneration, or maybe even mri of the affected shoulder. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Hi I am 29 year old I have a pain in back bone.

Dip. SICOT (Belgium), MNAMS, DNB (Orthopedics), MBBS
Orthopedist,
Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You have mentioned pain in lower back region as your main problem. You are actually very young to have persistent pain. If there is only localized pain in back region with no other associated symptoms like radiating pain, numbness, paresthesias etc, and no systemic symptoms like fever, loss of appetite, loss of weight etc, my advice to you for initial 2-3 weeks will be: - to maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or even tab paracetamol which suits you - intensive physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied 3-4 times in a day - analgesic spray for local application like dynapar qps spray can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc in case you are having back pain. If there is no improvement in 2-3 weeks with this conservative management, we will need to evaluate you further in form of dynamic x rays to look for any instability as a cause for pain and some blood investigations to rule out any deficiencies etc. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

I am a 38 year old male and I had a fracture neck of femur (left leg) operated in 2010 and right now I am suffering from AVN. At times when I do some fatigue or do some stressful work I suffer from pain and also start limping and gradually it decreases after taking some rest. I also went to consult few doctors and they suggested me to go for stem cell therapy but they also told me that this type of treatment is in experimental stage and it is not necessary that things will be alright after the therapy, and they also suggested me to either go for core decompression pattern of operation but in this also they told me that the bone may collapse suddenly after the operation and I may have to get a ball socket joint operated immediately or if the operation is successful then this may last for a couple of years. My concern is that at this particular phase of my life as I am 38 years old I don't want to get myself a ball socket joint change as it may also last for 10-15 years and in my later stage of life I may need a second change of ball socket joint. I want to know that with physiotherapy, exercise and restrictions over my movement and care can I avoid a surgery and live a normal life, if so then for how long. Please suggest me with your valuable guidance .

MBBS, cc USG
General Physician, Noida
Hello, As you are saying that problem is of Avascular necrosis (AVN) so only Physio therapy is not the option and also conservative treatment restriction of weight bearing is also not appropriate. There is combination of medical management and Surgical management that give best result so my advise kindly consult Orthopedition in a good Hospital like Apollo/ max/ Fortis Delhi/ AIIMS Delhi or any other good hospital, They can guide you best option

To stay healthy at work and prevent back injury, lift with bent knees and tight stomach. And hold weight close to your body. Standing or sitting tall not only improves your breathing and prevents pain - you'll look and feel better. Keep computer monitors at eye level and the keyboard and mouse at elbow level. Hello, Is there any history of injury or hurt to the area? Any underlying medical condition? Medication: Meantime, take homoeopathic medicines - Arnica 200 and Rhus Tox. 200 - take both of them thrice daily for 1 week. Also, apply Schwabe's Topi-Arnica and Topi MP Gel on the affected area in circular motions gently thrice a day. And wrap crepe bandage over it. Get back to me thereafter.
