Dear you can follow these methods for relief from backache (back pain): * first correct your sitting posture. Do not bend your lower back. You can use lumber belt for support. * do regular back strength exercises. Move your clockwise and anticlock wise. * do not sleep on very soft bed, sleep on slight hard cotton mattress. * do tadasana and bhjangasana for back strengthening. If you can not understand these asans you can consult me. Surya namaskar is also best asan in back pain. *do not take any heavy weight or heavy work. * if you are over weight then follow a good and effective diet plan to loose some kilos of weight. You can consult me to get a diet chart.

Consult a physiotherapist if you have experienced a fall recently and the discomfort caused due to it has not subsided.

I have some pain in the knee joint on the back side (above calf muscle). I walk 5 km and take 5 stairs of steps. Is it because of taking stairs. Should I stop taking stairs and confine to walking only. Am 67 years old male.

Hi, Walking on a levelled surface for 5 kms is fine. But climbing the stairs up and down is very strenuous to the joints and the muscles as they are over worked. Joints get worn out at an early date due to excessive usage. Therefore, stop climbing up and down the stairs and confine to walking only, especially at this age.

Hello lybrate-user ji I applaud to your Nobel gesture of donating blood to save life. Sorry to hear you got a pain after that. But let me assure you the pain would not be due to blood donation but some other etiology generally anyways you should take vitamin b 12 and calcium supplementation and if required iron supplementation if still pain persist kindly let me know so that we may investigate properly and treat accordingly.

This could be a muscle-sprain. Please take mag phos 6x - thrice daily 4 tabs. Also do x-ray of the affected area and blood test for uric acid. Based on the reports treatment would begin.

Is it correct to do icing in place of injury at joint where there is swelling? What can be the disadvantage of it?

BPTh/BPT
Physiotherapist, Hyderabad
Dear Mr Avijit, Icing has since long been used to decrease swelling or oedema, but there is stipulated duration to its use for therapeutic purposes, if your swelling has developed recently (24 to48 hrs) it may be recommended, but there is scanty evidence in medical literature that a long standing case of odema or swelling around the joint may respond to icing or cryotherapy, I suggest you to consult your Physio or Doc in your case for further clarification
