Spices - Can They Cause Allergies?

Products derived from plants are widely used as herbs and spices, often across the world and in many cuisines. Though spices and herbs are used in small quantities to add flavor to the food we eat, they can still trigger an adverse reaction. As per a presentation at the 2012 scientific meeting of ACAAI (American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology), 2-3% people across the world have an allergic reaction to spices. The percentage may seem quite less, mostly because of the lack of reliable tests.

Unfortunately, spices aren't regulated by FDI (Food and Drug Administration), which is why they are not listed on the food labels, making it extremely hard for consumers to determine what products to avoid. Not only food but these spices are also used in cosmetics, toothpaste and various other dental products. Sami Bahana, former president of ACAAI, said during the meeting that; as more and more people have started to use cosmetics and spices in the United States, it is likely that they will soon start developing allergies to these substances. Common spice allergies are usually observed towards black pepper and garlic and vanilla. Then there are spice blends, which are even more difficult to regulate.

Symptoms of spice allergy

  • Many people experience the symptoms of watery eyes and a runny nose right after eating something spicy, like chili pepper or horseradish. Many think that these reactions are caused by the immune system, but, in reality, they are caused by irritant effects on mucous membranes.
  • Skin rashes are, at times, appear when a body comes in direct contact with spices found in foods or cosmetics, and trigger irritant contact dermatitis.
  • Some life-threatening allergic reactions such as angioedema and urticaria can occur as a result of eating or inhaling spices. Inhaling spices can also trigger symptoms of asthma, as well as angioedema. Skin contact with spices can cause atopic dermatitis, urticaria, and allergic contact dermatitis.

Treating spice allergy

  • Diagnosing spice allergy is easy and can be done by performing allergy testing like blood testing and patch testing. Once you know what spices you are allergic to, you can refrain from using them. Nonetheless, it is extremely difficult to avoid them completely since spices are used in many household and toiletry items.
  • In case you develop the symptoms, the treatment is identical to the treatment of food allergy. Using injectable epinephrine and antihistamines for severe reactions can treat immediate symptoms to a significant extent. Topical corticosteroids can treat contact dermatitis caused by the spices. But, finally, avoiding spices completely is the best treatment for spice allergy.

Hi. There are four main factors which causes acne: Oil production Dead skin cells Clogged pores Bacteria Factors that may worsen the acne: Androgen hormones, certain medications (drugs containing corticosteroids, androgens or lithium tcan worsen acne), dietary factors, including dairy products and carbohydrate-rich foods — such as bread, bagels and chips — may trigger acne and Stress can make acne worse. Management: Wash your face with Bakson's Facewash (wash your face with warm water only) and followed by CTMP, i.e., cleansing, toning, moisturising and protection (apply liberally Sunscreen Gel with SPF-30) after washing your face daily. Home-made remedies: - Take 1 tbsp of fuller's earth (multani mitti) + a dash of lime + bit of rosewater – apply this on your face till it gets dried up, then rinse it off. - Take 1 tsp of Alum (or fitkari), make it slightly wet with water and apply this on your wet face, spread it well; let it dry and rinse it off. Alum remove your excessive moisture or oil and it also tightens the skin's tonicity. Medication: You can take homoeopathic medicines – Berberis Aquefolium Q/ 10 drops in 1/2 cup of water/ thrice a day (and for local application as well) and Kali Brom. 200/ thrice a day – for 20 days.

Hello, often when we are undergoing mental & emotional stress, our body tends to respond to it by disturbing our sleep & appetite. There are also times when we recognise our resources which help us survive the stress. Wanting to sleep is a way of your body to survive. It would be helpful if you are able to work around the stress by consulting a psychologist who can guide you to develop functional resources.

Hi,
Any one tell Me How To Get Healthy and Some Fatty Body! Currently I am 26Years Old And My Weight is Something 56K...
Hi gain weight you need to combine a balanced eating pattern with regular physical activity. You should be eating at least 6 small meals a day, rather than sticking to 3 square meals. You could divide it as 3 main meals and 3 snacks. You need to be eating every 2-3 hours. Space out snacks during the day so you don't spoil your appetite. Bread, cereal, rice, whole wheat, dalia and pasta: biscuits, and corn-bread are good sources of carbohydrates. Fruits: dried fruits, fruit nectars, and large quantities of fresh fruits vegetables: include, potatoes, peas, corn in your diet. Meat, poultry, fish, dry beans, eggs, and nuts: beef, pork, lamb, poultry, salmon, omelets, nuts, peanut butter, kidney beans, chickpeas will help you gain weight. Include dairy products like milk, yogurt, and cheese: milk, fruited yogurts, hard cheeses, ice cream, puddings, custards, milkshakes. -nuts and seeds make a healthy option for snacks. -roasted channas and peanuts are good -peanut butter on the sandwiches are a great mid-meal choice. -you must know that cereals actually contain some healthy calories. Stay hydrated: drinking plenty of water and other fluids like juices, milk, soups etc, will work in your favour. Do not drink water before a meal and in between the meal as it may make you lose your appetite, thus calorie intake suffers. Sleep: at least 8 hours of sound sleep is a must. Since your body is actually building up muscles, while you rest. Weight gainers have long term side effects.
