Kidney Disease? 9 Things You Must Do!

The medical term for protein leak in urineis commonly known as Nephrosis and if large amounts leak it is termed Nephrotic Syndrome. It can lead to kidney failure if not treated well mostly after seeing a kidney biopsy in adults. There are a lot of likely causes for this condition and it is detected by carrying out urine test. The treatment for Nephrosis is a long term treatment and done mainly to prevent kidney failure. The treatment for Nephrosis is to control protein leak and prevent kidney failure. It is very important for people who are new to kidney disease that they know about the nine things they should do to stay strong.

Important information on kidney disease:

  1. The feeling of helplessness on occurrence of kidney disease can be overcome by educating yourself. Individuals should learn everything about kidney disease and can gain vital information even from the Internet.
  2. It is very obligatory that the advice of the doctor must be followed by an individual suffering from Kidney disease. It is not indispensable that the kidney disease always leads to failure of kidney and to keep your kidney healthy and stay away from any damage, it is necessary to comply with the orders of the Doctor.
  3. It is very important that you stick to a diet, which would keep you healthy and protect your kidneys from any further damage. You should be mindful on everything you eat, and you can gain assistance on your diet from a renal dietitian.
  4. When you suffer from Chronic Kidney Disease, the blood values become very important to gauge the condition of your disease and whether it is getting worse or stable. From time to time, the healthcare provider would check your urine and blood regularly, and he would also monitor your blood pressure and blood sugar.
  5. You can ask help from the support group and accept their assistance. Your family is your best support system in times of need and so involving them is very important.
  6. You must make sure that you are getting the proper care you need, and you need to educate yourself by communicating as well as asking questions.
  7. You will feel much better by being active, so do things that make you happy. You can exercise regularly but after taking advice from your doctor. Your main focus must be to keep your heart healthy.
  8. A positive attitude is anytime helpful in healing a disease. You can listen to music that entertains your mind and helps you stay positive.
  9. It is not difficult to stay healthy even with kidney disease, as a positive feeling would eventually help face the kidney disease. You must plan ahead and be ready for kidney transplant without getting worried.

Most importantly, spread awareness and help people tackle the situation without any difficulty. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Nephrologist.

Types and Symptoms of Kidney Stones!

MD, MBBS, FRCP - Nephrology
Nephrologist, Delhi
Types and Symptoms of Kidney Stones!

Defined as hard and small mineral deposits that develop inside your kidney, kidney stones are made up of acid salts and minerals. The causes of this disease are not well-defined, although risk factors include drinking very little amounts of water and having a diet rich in sodium, protein and oxalate (chocolate and green leafy foods for example). However, knowing the type of kidney stone you suffer from can help ascertain the cause.

Here are the common types of kidney stones.

  • Struvite stones: This type of kidney stone is usually a response to certain kind of infection, such as a urinary tract infection for example. Characterised by rapid growth and a large size, struvite stones can develop without any warning signs.
  • Calcium stones: These are the most common type and are caused by a diet rich in oxalate. Risk factors for calcium stones include a diet consisting of plenty of nuts, chocolates and certain fruits and vegetables; metabolic disorders, high doses of vitamin d and intestinal bypass surgery, all of which can increase the amounts of calcium or oxalate in your urine, indicating the development of kidney stones.
  • Cystine stones: Those individuals with a hereditary disorder that causes their kidneys to produce certain amino acids (cystinuria to be precise) in excess are most likely to get cystine stones.
  • Uric acid stones: These are common in those whose diets are lacking in water or those who suffer from the excess fluid loss. People with a high protein diet and those who suffer from gout are also at risk. Genetic factors play a major role as well in increasing your risk of getting uric acid stones.

Apart from these, there are other rarer types of kidney stones that can also arise depending on a combination of an individual's lifestyle and genetic make-up.

However, to determine whether you're suffering from any of the aforementioned types of kidney stones, you must first know its common symptoms, which are:

  1. Excruciating pain in your sides, and back, especially below your ribs
  2. Feelings of pain in the groin and the lower parts of your abdomen
  3. Intense and fluctuating pain that comes and goes in waves
  4. Pain while urinating
  5. Urine that is red, brown or pink in colour
  6. Urine that's cloudy or has a foul odour
  7. Vomiting and nausea
  8. Constant urge to urinate
  9. Increased frequency of urination
  10. Urinating in small amounts
  11. Chills and fever in case of an infection. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Nephrologist.

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. If there is an increased urge to urinate, it is better to check your blood glucose level, both fasting and after food. That will give a clear idea whether there diabetes or not. Thanks.

Sir, I am 24 year old while I go to fresh semen comes out with urine what can I do ?

Sir, I am 24 year old while I go to fresh semen comes out with urine what can I do ?
Semen doesn't come out so easily. There is need to do sexual activity for it. It is myth generated and propagated by quacks and hakims that person passes semen in urine. Sometimes a thick discharge through urethra may be either due to infection of urinary tract that can be very well treated with medications. Drink plenty of water and don't think much about it. If needed get urine test and culture done. All the best.

There seems to be a small stone in your urinary bladder which might block your urethra when you put pressure during urination. You will need to consult an urologist, do an ultrasonography and cystoscopic examination.

Dear , please get urine test done either to confirm or rule out infection. It is likely that your father had chronic prostatitis before surgery and proper long term antibiotics. Secondly surgeon may not have completed the job thoroughly and may have left some prostate behind. Thirdly he may have developed postoperative stricture; narrowing of urethra which may need dilatation to put it right. Lastly he may have anal fissure due to passage of hard faeces which is giving him the trouble you mentioned.

All these symptom shows that 'Pitta' of your body got disturbed. So, take care of few things. Avoid: Sour food ( lemon, soar grapes , tamarind etc. ) , Spicy food. Include: Take a glass of fennel seed water ( soak 1 spoon fennel in a glass of water at night, heat it once , cool down and consume as first thing in the morning. Also chew 1 spoon fennel seeds after every meal. Don't leave yourself empty stomach , take freshly home prepared food or snacks in every 2 to 3 hours. About 10 am ,( after breakfast) take 1 glass milk with 1.5 spoon Gulkand mixed with 1 spoon fennel seeds. It will release all the extra heat from your body . Always drink water or some hydrating drink like coconut water before step out in sun.

That is a completely normal phenomenon. Everyone has it. Ask around. It is just the urine left at the bottom of the bladder and in the urethra that you have to apply pressure to bring out. Every male does it and has been doing it since childhood. It is not a disease. Hence, there is no treatment.

Cysts in kidney usually do not pain and we have to keep a watch on blood in urine and further guidance to be given after clinical examination.
