I am 24 years old. Recently I have been experiencing burning sensation in my eyes. I wash my eyes frequently with cold water. I use laptop for about 10 hours a day. Is that the reason? I sleep for 7 hours.

It could be the cause as computer usage can lead to drying of eyes. Use a lubricant eye drop and also blink frequently while working on pc.

Are You a Good Candidate for LASIK?

Are You a Good Candidate for LASIK?

Are You a Good Candidate for LASIK?

First and foremost you should dislike the options of spectacles and contact lenses. It then means that you are well motivated.

Your age should be above 18 years and your spectacle power should be stable over past one year. Lasik works well for powers from about -10.0 to +6.0 including cylindrical power.

Certain tests will done to confirm you have suitable corneal curvature (topography), and that you have adequate corneal thickness (pachymetry)

You should have realistic expectations from the procedure this means you should expect significantly reduced dependence on spectacles and not an exact zero power.

If you satisfy above criteria and clear a routine eye examination you should be an ideal candidate for lasik!

Glaucoma -- The Silent Thief of Eyesight

Glaucoma -- The Silent Thief of Eyesight

Glaucoma or "Kala Moti" is often an ignored disease as in many cases it does not cause redness ,pain or watering of eyes but the vision decreases gradually and, most importantly , irreversibly !!

Due to its irreversible nature , early detection is vital . All those above fifty and especially those with a blood relative having Glaucoma , should go for regular eye checkups with an eye doctor. A check up in an eye clinic includes an "eye pressure" measurement. Often this pressure is raised in Glaucoma. Also the eye doctor will take a look at your optic nerve to see if it is showing any signs of glaucoma damage.

All suspicious cases are subjected to two important tests. First is Perimetry where we asses the side vision or field of vision which is first to be affected in early Glaucoma.Second is an OCT which scans the retina of the eye and measures the actual loss of nerve fibre layer.

If detected early Glaucoma can be well controlled with regular use of eye drops. If the reduction in eye pressure is inadequate with eye drops then we have the options of Laser or finally Anti Glaucoma Surgery.

Yes you are probably right the headache may not be related to the eyes as otherwise it would have recurred as soon as you stopped wearing spects.

Hi, from last three days my mother's right eyes become red .almost full dark red.(just like burst blood vessel in eye. She don't feel any pain .but the eye ball is extreme red. Is that a serious problem? Also I had suggest her for keeping ice cube on it. So it will be safe? Could it help in reducing eye redness ? please suggest any simple method to cure it. Thanks.

In case there is no discomfort at all the redness could be due to a haemorrhage which looks scary but is harmless. It subsides within 8-10 days without doing anything.

Hold reading matter at a slightly greater distance from the eyes and always read in good light. If the problem persists then maybe you need a higher spectacle power.
