I am second year engineering student, I have series of semester exams ahead and I am preparing for it. I have so many portions to cover but I am running short of time. I feel depressed and anxious if I could not complete the portions I fixed for the time limit. How to overcome this depression would listening to music help me overcome this depression?

Dear lybrate user. Please stop worrying about the semester examinations now. What were you doing for the whole semester? if you were doing your studying properly for the past semester, the exams will be alright. Other wise, it will be tough. What is the use of worrying about it now? listening to music distract your attention. Fix a time table. Do what ever you can in the area of study. Get good sleep. That is all you can do right now. Take care.

Stress Management - Manage and Reduce your Stress!!

DNB, DPM, MBBS
Psychiatrist, Delhi
Stress Management - Manage and Reduce your Stress!!

Stress management encompasses techniques intended to equip a person with effective coping mechanisms for dealing with psychological stress.

Definition of stress: Stress management defines stress precisely as a person's physiological response to an external stimulus that triggers the "fight-or-flight" reaction.

Causes of stress: Many things can trigger the stress reaction, including danger, threat, news, illness, as well as significant changes in one's life such as the death of a loved one.

Techniques of stress management include:

  • Self-understanding (e.g. self-identification as a Type A or as a Type B personality)
  • Self-management (e.g. becoming better-organized)
  • Conflict resolution
  • Adopting a more positive attitude
  • Self-talk
  • Breathing exercises
  • Meditation
  • Exercise
  • Altering your diet
  • Taking more regular and effective rest

Time Management Techniques

Some techniques of time management may help a person to control stress. For example:

  • Becoming more organized and reducing the generation of clutter
  • Setting priorities can help reduce anxiety
  • Using a "to-do" list of tasks that a person needs to complete can give a person a sense of control and accomplishment

Effective stress management involves learning to set limits and to say "No" to some demands that others make.

Manage and Reduce your Stress

If you are one of the many people who want to alleviate your stress, you can learn some simple techniques to help you get out of the vicious cycle of leading a stressful life. Your stressful life does not just affect you, but everyone around you. It affects your relationships as well as any children or co-workers. Most of all, it can actually make you physically ill.

There are many facets to stress. Stress manifests itself in many different ways and can be either self-induced or something that occurs in life. We can never eliminate stress from our lives as stressful situations are part of life. However, we can learn to react to stress in a positive manner and take control of the situation rather than allowing the stress to remain in control. This book will teach you different tips as well as old secrets on how to identify the stressors in your life as well as learn to manage them. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a psychiatrist.

Many methods are available for you to quit smoking. But, nothing is as effective as will power. You need to have strong will power. To reduce craving on stopping cigarete, you can use nicotine gum, lozenges, patch etc. I may provide counseling and methods to prevent relapse through telephone counseling. Let me know if you are willing. Take care.

Dear , for every subject there are different methodologies to understand and learn. You also should take your skills and aptitude into consideration. Some are not good at math and some not at languages. You should know what your strength is and plan your carer accordingly. Take care.

How to fit my body and how to increase my mind power and ability and how to increase my body power.

MSc
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Hyderabad
Hi lybrate-user Try Naturopathy and never use other medicines or supplements, read the below tips to gain maximum health benefits: 1. Make sure you have your head in the south or east direction while sleeping. In this position your body is taking force of attraction. Sleeping in north is very unhealthy and will make you tired and lethargic because your body is taking force of repulsion. Attraction bring elasticity, ease, good blood pressure, sound sleep, relaxation, increase in height while North brings high BP, quick heart beats, muscle and internal body part contraction, your breathing will affect. In Indian culture head of the Dead body during Antim sanskar is kept in North direction. In west direction researches are going on, so don’t sleep till researches come. 2. It is advisable that you consume" cow ghee" take 1 spoon of cow ghee and warm it, With the help of a dropper, Pour one drop of cow ghee in each of your nostril. It may sound weird or a hectic job at first but trust me it is the most effective remedy for any kind of problem related to health. It Makes your head nerves lighter and healthier that too without any side effects. Cow ghee reaches those areas in your head where allopathic and homeopathic medicines fails to reach. 3. In the morning start consuming lukewarm water right after you wake up & sitting in sukhasaan (chaukdi) (see image) it is advisable to even do rinsing with the lukewarm water in your mouth and gulp it after that. Drink your water sip by sip instead of drinking it in speed, this process is done for the detoxification and cleaning of your stomach/intestines that has everything to with your health issues. After this your stomach condition will remain intact at pH7 condition (which is not alkaline or acidic in nature but neutral). The alkaline or saliva (laar) of your mouth should mix with the acid of your stomach to make stomach in neutral. This is only possible if you are drinking water sip by sip, slowly each time you consume water. This will not just help you in attaining a proper health but will keep you away from other health and weakness problems, which comes from the acids produced in stomach. In Ayurveda it is said to through this formula you can live for 100 years without disease or stress. You should also eat your all meals sitting in sukhasana (check image) 4. Other advice is that don’t drink water after your meals (lunch, dinner, breakfast, or any mini meal). Drink water after 90 minutes of meals. Drinking water after your meals reduces your digestion, and as you know if food is not digested it will produce acid, which in turn will increase your weight. Scientifically it is proved that food takes at least 90 minutes to digest, drinking water during that 90 minutes will bring almost 68 types of diseases of stomach. 5. Make sure you are walking at least 5000 to 12, 000 steps every day. It is strongly recommended that you start with a jogging regime also if possible. I suggest you to buy a Pedometer which will calculate your daily steps, Pedometer will cost you just Rs 300 from market but will help you a lot. 6. Start doing surya namaskar, its more than a weight loss exercise. From improving your posture, strengthening muscles to whittling extra inches around the waist, the benefits of Suryanamaskar are many, provided you adapt it the right way. A set of 12 fixed, cyclic postures define Suryanamaskar which when performed repeatedly at an easy pace can bring a sense of well being, almost immediately. However, those with a heart condition, arthritis or slip-disk, need their doctor's consent before starting the routine. 7. You should avoid late night dinners at any cost and make sure you are following a routine while having 3 main course meals of the day. Try having your dinner before sunset and not eat anything heavy after sunset this will surely help you with a better health. Try to sleep before 11: 00 P. M. And sleep for minimum 6 to 8 hours. Lack of sleep is also a leading factor of bad health. 8. Avoid processed food, sugar and its products as well as refined oil/double refined oil. Use pure oil of mustard (sarso), peanut, coconut, cow ghee, sesame. When you put 10 to 12 chemicals in these oils then they become refined oil and bring almost 68 diseases along with weight gain and bad health. Don’t follow what this television advertisement says about refined oil. It is all marketing. EAT PURE OILS. 9. Listen the music you love when you feel tired, music has a therapeutic energy and reduces stress and makes you energetic. 10. Bhramari pranayama is very effective in instantly calming your mind down. It is one of the best breathing exercises to release the mind of agitation, frustration or anxiety and get rid of anger. A simple-to-do technique, can be practiced anywhere at work or home, and an instant option available to de-stress yourself. 11. This breathing technique derives its name from the black Indian bee called Bhramari. (Bhramari = type of Indian bee; pranayama = breathing technique). The exhalation in this pranayama resembles the typical humming sound of a bee, which explains why it is named so. Thanks.

Dear doctor we have a patient of schizophrenia having auditory hallucinations and is under medication. She is 35 and is taking alkepin 200 mg. We have come to know about DHA derivatives of clozapine (clozaprexine) which is considered to be highly safe and with high bioavailability. You are requested to kindly help us by informing availability of clozaprexine in India. We will be highly obliged and thankful to you.

MBBS, MD-Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Allahabad
Mr. lybrate-user, I would like to tell one thing, schizophrenia is chronic illness. Basically it requires anti psychotic drugs for treatment. There are numbers of anti psychotic drugs availabale in market for treatment of Schizophrenia. Some drugs are FDA approved, some are superior in one trial but not in other trial. Some are popular in few countries but not FDA approved. Actually selection of proper antipsychotic depends on number of conditions viz. Age, sex, duration of illness, associated co morbid condition, any medical condition, substance history, organicity, prior drug response, socio-economical status etc. As in your case female patient having auditory hallucinations, probably case of schizophrenia needs proper medication consedering above mentioned condition. Now come to your basic question, she is taking clozapine 200 mg. It is also very efficacious drug. You talked about clozaprexine. It is considered as a prodrug of clozapine. It is investigational new drug, originally created at Harward University. Atype of fatty acid (DHA) was added to clozapine in order to increase penetration of blood brain barrier. This drug was initially tested in rats, but no obvous findings have been found in subsequent studies. It is not currently available in INDIA. Ihope it might help you.

Hi, I have low memory power I cant store anymore data. I am very poor in study. Please advise.

Hypnotherapist, DCS, BSIC, Advanced Trainee of Transactional Analysis, Advanced Skills in Counselling
Psychologist,
You might be going through some stress in your life because of which your thoughts are going here n there. Counselling helps to contain the mind as well as learn effective ways to deal with the stresses. Get your eyesight checked for any power. Be friends with students who are focused in their studies. You will need to study smarter rather than study harder. Are you enjoying what you are studying or its not of your choice? if it's not of your choice then look for positive meaning in learning that subject. Eg. For geography n history: I will need this knowledge when I grow up and visit new places. This will help you to keep your interest going in that subject. And the last thing is not to compare your results with other people. Each person is unique and has his own strengths and limitations. You discover yours and sharpen your weaknesses. Remember that your current results don't mean that you will never do well. Some people do well only when they are in college, doctorate or at work.

I am a 34 yrs old housewife. Have 2 daughters - 11 yrs and 1 yr old. I am in continuous pressure for not having a son. This tension is multiplied by my mother in law who wants a grand son desperately. My husband is very much supportive but I am unable to control my thoughts and keep on thinking about it. It has led me to a depression like situation. I want to work as I am well qualified but due to small baby, cant go out. Our is a nuclear family. Sitting at home, managing 2 children and continuously thinking about these things has made my life depressing. Please suggest some solution.

Hypnotherapist, DCS, BSIC, Advanced Trainee of Transactional Analysis, Advanced Skills in Counselling
Psychologist,
This is sad, that your mil still wishes for a son in this day and age. Are you also wishing to have a son? what will you lose if you don't have one. These days there are many options like adoption, ivf, surrogacy to get over this problem. Yet this will be your responsibility to take care of another child. Your mil wouldn't be around after some years. You need to be assertive about your dreams. If your husband is with you, then what is the problem in telling your mil unless there are chances of some loss of prestige and respect in family or financial gain. You need to weigh your priorities and decide the pros and cons of each option and see which works for you in the long run with least damage. Counselling helps in taking such tough decisions of life and connect with yourself and your needs and wants and strike a balance with others expectations. Click on private chat to connect with me.
