Sir, first of all, it seems you are slightly on the overweight zone. Secondly, this problem is very common with young software engineers and bike riders. Basically the spine and its muscles get gradually affected due to poor posture and ergonomics. Medications will give temporary relief. For better results you need to consult a physiotherapist personally so that with proper assessment, exercise, postural correction and ergonomic changes, your condition can be resolved and prevent future aggravation of the condition.

While buying a backpack make sure that it has a padded back, padded, contoured, shoulder and chest straps, a waist belt, compression straps and reflective materials. A backpack will these features will reduce the pressure on the back, distribute the load to the pelvis and prevent the contents of the bag from digging into the back.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. The treatment of impingement actually depends upon the cause for it, so it can be conservative, injections with physical therapy and surgery if impingement and pain is too much. But a lot of patients improve with physical therapy and supportive medications. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation.

Hello all. I have severe pain in my right ankle and calf muscles, to be precise the muscle right above the ankle and the muscle to right under the knee. My arches of both legs are collapsed a bit. The right leg has more collapsed arch. Even a little pain in knee, hip and back. A cracking sound of bones is usually heard from my feet and knee, even in right hip at times. Sudden pain in some nerve in my back. From past four days I couldn't walk or sleep properly. As I started to put little force on right leg and walk has made my other leg to experience the same kind of pain. I even had bunions. Is this a kind of flatfeet or overpronation. Or is this a neurological problem. Can it be cured?

Hello all. I have severe pain in my right ankle and calf muscles, to be precise the muscle right above the ankle and ...
Yes it can be a flat feet. That's why you. Are getting multiple joints pain of your lower leg. As you said arch is completely collapsed so weight bearing of the body is disturbed. You can get your EMG NCV done to see which all muscles are weak and then take a good Neuro opinion and do regular. Supervised ex's for your lower limb muscle. Nowadays you get custom made shoes with arches or you can get it done with prosthesis. People which will support your muscles as well as help in proper weight distribution. All the. Best.

How to Reduce Knee Pain

Doctor Of Physical Therapy (DPT), Bachelor of Physical Therapy
Physiotherapist, Bangalore
How to Reduce Knee Pain
Managing knee pain.

1. Heat or cold therapy.
Try using hot packs or ice packs on the knee where it hurts for 10 to 15 minutes few times a day as tolerated. Usually ice therapy helps control inflammation and reduces pain immediately.

2. Stretching and strengthening exercises
Hamstring stretch: lay on your back and tie a strap to the ankle. Now lift leg straight up till you feel stretch behind your knee and thigh.
Hold 15 seconds. Repeat 3 times each side.

Quadriceps stretch: stand on one leg and holding onto a chair for support. Now using your hand bend the knee as much possible. Keep leg straight and you will feel a stretch in front of your thigh. Hold for 15 seconds. Repeat 3 times each side.

Quad sets: sit with your legs straight. Tighten knee and hold for 5 seconds. Repeat 10 times on both sides. You can also put a folded towel under the knee.

Straight leg raise: lay on your back. Lift one leg straight up and lower slowly. Repeat 10 times on both sides.

Sitting leg raises: sit up straight in a chair. Straighten one leg and hold 5 seconds. Repeat 10 times each side.

3. Walking and other activities.
Start slow and keep at it. Walking can ease joint pain, strengthen leg muscles, improve posture, and improve flexibility. It's also good for your heart.
The exercises that are easy on the knees include biking, swimming, and water aerobics. Water exercise takes weight off painful joints. Being active may also help you lose weight, which takes pressure off joints.

How much exercise?
Thirty minutes a day is a good goal. Start small, such as 10 minutes every alternate day. If you don't have pain, exercise more to reach 30 minutes goal.

When you start to exercise, you may feel mild soreness in muscle and thats normal. Check with your doctor if you want to try over-the-counter pain relievers to help the soreness. Ice can also help. Don't ignore pain in your joints, though. Contact your doctor if you have any. Physiotherapy can help and treatments such as ultrasound therapy, interferential therapy, tens, etc are combined with specific exercises to improve knee flexibility and strength.

Good luck!
