Hi. I am 25 year old male. I had frequent mouth ulcers, that's why I can not able to eat properly. These ulcers are comes in frequent way. What should I do to stop these pain full mouth ulcers. please suggest me what type of food I have to take and give me some precautions.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
If the mouth ulcer is causing a lot of pain, gently rub a small ice cube over the spot or rinse your mouth with ice-cold water. You could also chew on a clove bud (lavang) and direct the juice generated to the area where the ulcer is located. Clove buds are a great ingredient to cure sore throat too. To prevent the ulcerated area from getting infected, make it a point to rinse your mouth with a little salt water. Remember, this won’t make the ulcer disappear, but it can help reduce the pain. Honey is a natural humectant. It helps reduce scarring and hastens the process of new tissue growth. This, along with its anti-microbial effect ensures faster healing of the mouth ulcer. Chew a few leaves of tulsi along with some water about three to four times every day. This will help in getting rid of ulcers faster and also have a preventive action against their recurrence. Applying a little coconut oil directly onto the mouth ulcer or chewing some coconut (fresh or dry) helps reduce pain and inflammation and hence, ulcers heal faster. Mix some sugar to crushed khus-khus seeds and consume this mixture for instant relief from ulcers. You could apply a little ghee directly to the ulcerated area, or drink a glass of buttermilk two or three times every day. Mouth ulcers left untreated generally go away in a week or so; with these home remedies, you can expect faster relief. However, if you notice an ulcer in the mouth that is persistently present although it does not cause you any pain, do not neglect it or try to treat it with home remedies beyond a few days. Make it a point to see a doctor soon because often, a painless mouth ulcer is one of the earliest signs of oral cancer.

I feel diagnosis is important. You have to visit a oral medicine specialist for diagnosis. Ulcer there are numerous causes stress, trauma, hormonal changes, certain medications, Git disease, vitamin deficiency, anemia and many more reasons. Get it diagnosed by a doctor or dentist and get treated. Sadly trying home remedy without diagnosing and removing the cause is not going to help you. Increasing greeny vegetables and fruits in diet and stress reducing excercises, yoga may help you.

I have a problem of recurrence canker sore. It usually happens every 30-60 days. Please advice.
CANKER SORES- HOME REMEDY TREATMENT They can be triggered by factors such as smoking, stress, trauma, or vitamin and mineral deficiencies. 1. Irritation from poor-fitting dentures, rough fillings, or braces can aggravate canker sores and should be treated by a dentist. 2. Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS): SLS, a component of most toothpastes, is a potential cause of canker sores. Try an SLS-free toothpaste for several months to see if such a change helps 3. Flossing teeth daily and brushing teeth and gums for at least two minutes two to three times daily may help prevent canker sores. 4. B vitamins ? B1, B2 and B6. Take a daily B complex. 5. Lactobacillus acidophilus: (Chew four Lactobacillus tablets three times per day to reduce soreness) 6. Chlorhexidine mouthwash used four times daily can speed healing of canker sores 7. Avoidance of certain kinds of food or beverages (e.g., spicy, acidic, sharp) that cause irritation to existing ulcers might help reduce discomfort. 8. Applying ice directly to ulcers for about ten minutes at a time might help reduce pain as well. 9. Canker Cover is a gel-like protective patch can be placed over ulcers. 10. Hydrogen peroxide might applied directly to ulcers and allowed to remain for about one minute at a time. Peroxides can be used up to four times daily for up to seven days, but more frequent or prolonged use might irritate the oral mucosa. 11. Salt water rinses (one to three teaspoons of table salt in four to eight ounces [120 to 240 mL] of water) or baking soda pastes may be tried to reduce discomfort. 12. Analgesics such as acetaminophen (T. Crocin) or T. ibuprofen daily (contraindicated in conditions with gastric ulcer, asthma, wheezing, and allergy), might also help reduce pain with canker sores. 13. Herbal Aloe vera or lavender oil applied topically to ulcers might have some utility in reducing pain and healing time TREATMENT FOR CANKER SORES Prescription Medications We need more investigations to decide upon treatment. 14. Amlexanox 5% oral paste (Aphthasol), is an anti-inflammatory agent. 15. Sucralfate suspension 16. Topical corticosteroids have been shown to reduce pain from canker sores. Systemic corticosteroids may be useful for patients with more severe or frequently recurring cases. 17. Topical tetracycline regimens may be useful for reducing pain and duration of ulcers. The downside of topical antibiotics is that they might increase the risk of thrush. Oral doxycycline 20 mg twice daily may reduce ulcer recurrence.

Gastritis, lung & sinus infection may also be the cause of bad smell in the mouth. 90% of bad breath is due to a dirty tongue. We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need deep cleaning. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash until then. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

When I eat an ice cream or drink cold drink. I feel a different type of pain in my gums.

BHMS
Homeopath, Chennai
When I eat an ice cream or drink cold drink. I feel a different type of pain in my gums.
Tooth sensitivity is caused by the gradual exposure of the softer part of your tooth that lies under the tooth enamel, called" dentine" Dentine has tiny tubes ('tubules') that lead to the nerve and are filled with fluid. Eating or drinking foods and drinks that are hot, cold or sweet can cause a change in fluid movement. This fluid movement causes the nerve endings to react in response, triggering a short, sharp pain. Some of the most common causes of sensitive teeth include: Brushing Brushing shortly after acid challenge can cause the enamel to be more easily worn away, as during this time the enamel is softened and more vulnerable. Brushing too vigorously can also cause receding gums, causing further exposure of the dentine. Gum Disease Gum disease (also known as gingivitis) causes inflamed and sore gum tissue.  If left untreated, gingivitis can lead to periodontitis. Periodontitis is when gum disease gets worse and damages the tissues and bone that support the teeth. One sign of periodontitis is sensitive teeth, as the receding gums leave dentine exposed.  Teeth Grinding If you grind your teeth when you sleep or during the day, or if you clench your teeth, you may be wearing down enamel and exposing the underlying dentine layer of your tooth. Receding Gums Receding gums can be caused by conditions such as gum disease, which can expose the tooth's dentine and cause sensitivity. Brushing too vigorously can also cause receding gums. Homoeopathic medicines bring holistic act on each and every part of body thus teeth are no exception, go for a constitutional homoeopathic treatment to get permanent cure.

Flossing & Brushing

BDS
Dentist, Gurgaon
Flossing & Brushing
Flossing
Flossing removes plaque and bacteria that you cannot reach with your toothbrush. If you don't floss, you are missing more than one-third of your tooth surface. Plaque is the main cause of gum disease. It is an invisible bacterial film that develops on your teeth every day.

Within 24 to 36 hours, plaque hardens into tartar (also called calculus), which can only be removed by professional cleaning. Floss at least once a day, and plaque never gets the chance to harden into tartar. Getting into the habit of daily flossing is easier when you floss while doing something else like watching tv or listening to music, for example.

How to floss your teeth
Step 1
Take a length of floss equal to the distance from your hand to your shoulder.

Wrap it around your index and middle fingers, leaving about two inches between your hands.

Slide the floss between your teeth and wrap it into a" c" shape around the base of the tooth and gently under the gumline. Wipe the tooth from base to tip two or three times.

Step 3
Be sure to floss both sides of every tooth. Don't forget the backs of your last molars. Go to a new section of the floss as it wears and picks up particles.

Step 4
Brush your teeth after you floss - it is a more effective method of preventing tooth decay and gum disease.

Flossing problems and solutions
Gums sometimes bleed when you first begin to floss. Bleeding usually stops after a few days. If bleeding does not stop, see your dentist. Floss can shred if you snag it on an old filling or on the ragged edge of a tooth.

Try another type of floss or dental tape. Ask your dentist or dental hygienist for advice. If your floss still shreds, see your dentist.

Brushing
Regular, thorough brushing is a very important step in preventing tooth decay and gum disease. Brushing removes the bacteria that promote tooth decay and the plaque that can cause gum disease.

Ideally, you should brush after every meal, because the bacterial attack on teeth begins minutes after eating. At the very least, brush once a day and always before you go to bed. Brushing your teeth isn't complicated, but there is a right and a wrong way.

How to brush your teeth
Step 1
Brush at a 45 degree angle to your teeth. Direct the bristles to where your gums and teeth meet. Use a gentle, circular, massaging motion, up and down. Don't scrub. Gums that recede visibly are often a result of years of brushing too hard.

Step 2
Clean every surface of every tooth. The chewing surface, the cheek side, and the tongue side.

Step 3
Don't rush your brush. A thorough brushing should take at least two to three minutes. Try timing yourself.

Step 4
Change your usual brushing pattern. Most people brush their teeth the same way all the time. That means they miss the same spots all the time. Try reversing your usual pattern.

Step 5
Use a soft brush with rounded bristles. The right toothbrush cleans better. Choose a size and shape that allow you to reach all the way to your back teeth. There are many different types of brushes, so ask your dentist to suggest the best one for you. Dentists recommends you replace your toothbrush every three months.
