Tips to Deal with a Patient Recovering from Brain Surgery

Tips to Deal with a Patient Recovering from Brain Surgery

Undergoing Brain Surgery can be a very traumatic experience, and it is common for many patients recovering from brain surgery to face depression, spells of dizziness, confusion and weakness post the surgery. It can be very critical that family members and friends talk to the patient and be empathetic towards them.

It takes approximately 12-18 months for the brain to heal after a brain surgery and slowly and gradually the patient will regain all his normal functions and get back to his daily routine. However in that time they need the complete support and understanding of their families, as well may need help from therapists. This will help the patient in gaining back their independence as well as confidence in their abilities.

Here are some tips that will help you deal with a patient recovering from Brain Surgery:

  1. After brain surgery, a person may feel disoriented and have some speech or understanding disability for a while. Family members and friends are advised to take pause when talking to the patient, so that he/she can easily understand the conversation. Speaking slowly is not recommended, as patients may recognize it and have an emotional outburst or feel hurt.

  2. Caretakers and family members should also keep reminding the conversation topic at different points to the patient, so that it is easier for them to participate in the conversation.

  3. Family members should also not react adversely in case of emotional outbursts, instead show love and patience to a person recovering from brain surgery.

  4. Caregivers should make sure that the person recovering from brain surgery gets enough sleep and rest to recuperate.

  5. People interacting with someone recovering from brain surgery should understand that the person's ability to learn and remember will improve daily, and any lapses in attention by the patient are not caused by any act of obstinacy. Your care and understanding will be essential for a person to recover.

  6. Family members should also make sure just to give enough care and not smother the brain surgery survivor. It is essential for them to regain their confidence and a sense of competence.

Family members should take the patient for a neuropsychological examination--after treatment, 6 months later, and a year later to see if they are recovering properly. Caregivers should watch out for emotional outbursts, like rage, uncontrollable laughter, withdrawal and depression. In case of such symptoms it is advisable to take the patient for a check up with medical practitioner. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

There can be many reasons for stomach pain not necessarily because of sexual intercourse so it will be better if you get her clinically checked from a gynaecologist to ascertain the reason and then take treatment in the meantime try tab meftal spas twice a day for one or two days and see if it helps.

How long after missing a pill and pill free interval you are protected? Can starting the pill immediately would have been better after you missed second last pill of the pack? If condom failed this time, are you at higher risk of conceiving?

Hello, if you have missed the second last active pill of the pack then the next pill should be consumed within 24 hrs to continue contraceptive protection, however it being the last week of active pill ovulation would have been already prevented and with the last week of sugar pills you should be expecting your menses. Once menses arrive then you can be sure of not being pregnant.

Hello. It is good that your wife's menses is regular. However, post delivery there may have been some hormonal changes which may currently not be within normal limits and thus need to check those. Recent semen analysis should also be done. You may need to see a fertility physician who can examine your wife and then guide you both further.

You should have patience. There might not be any problem as you got pregnant once. It's also important to get a thorough checkup yearly for you to be on the safer side and as a simple measure of keeping fit. Avoid unnecessary abortions as you may have to regret later. Eat healthy and stay fit (learn yoga) and be active. Sit back and relax. It's important that the parents should be healthy so that children born are also healthy. Invest time in health And prepare your mind and body for pregnancy. Avoid unnecessary medications.

Take Folvit tablets 5 mg daily for both partners. Stay clean and keep your home and toilet hygienic. Diet should have fresh items only. Water should be filtered. Avoid vehicular exhaust. Avoid passive smoking. Semen test for you husband, control of diabetes for both, treatment of urine infection are all necessary before you conceive. Stop all other drugs or inform your doctor. There are a battery of tests to rule out subtle diseases and infections. Some of them are costly. Chromosomal assay for both parents is another option.

Hello see as your period started first time, there was no need for ipill. But still you took afterwards that might have disturbed your routine cycle. This may create hormonal imbalance in your body. So now you have to plan mediation accordingly. Let's not worry for this. It's normal thing. Its not a disease. But have to take care of it. Do consult in private consulting area. I want to know about zika virus. What are the symptoms? What precautions one should take to avoid this?
Zika virus is transmitted through mosquitoes to humans and symptoms are vague -fever , joint pains , bodyaches and the fever is not very high like in malaria , one tends to ignore and treat it like just any other fever which lasts for 3-5 days. At risk are Pregnant women , because the babies get anancephaly -means baby with small head and other congenital defects. Recent reseaech has proved that This Virus can be transmitted through body fluids , sexual intercourse , Vaccine is underway and Indian Scientists have made it , they are waiting to get a patent. We are expecting an epidemic all around the world but some places in North America has got no patient of Zika and Brazil has lots of cases , Reasons are Not known.

It is important to take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The medication will be less effective if you miss doses. If you miss a dose of this medication, and you remember within 12 hours, take the missed dose. If more than 12 hours have passed, discard the missed tablet and continue to take the remaining tablets in the pack at the usual time. An additional non-hormonal method of birth control (e.g. Condoms) should be used until the pack is empty. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
