Hello everyone,

I am Dr Neetan Sachdeva I am Orthopaedic surgeon.

Let's talk about Osteoporosis, Osteoporosis is a very common disease now affecting all of us, many individuals, many ladies, elderly men-females, everybody is getting affected over period of time. About one and two females and 1 and 8 men are affected in India with Osteoporosis. Now you may be having lot of big body ache, pains, if you above 35-40 you may be a male, you may be a female, lot of pain, big aches thakawat jisko bolte hain hum log, may be tired getting up don't feel like working you may be approaching a menopause, such cases we usually trying differentiate between Arthritis and Osteoporosis. If we are going ahead with this investigations with like something like dexa scan which is usually done about 40-45 years of age not before that, in elderly men also it is done and post menopause female also it is done and it comes us to be osteoporosis, then we have treatment for that. So what is basically and Osteoporosis, Osteoporosis is porous bones or soft bones. Now the bones they collapse their own self just by small trivial injuries, just by little weight or just buy some activity you may have damage your bones that happen in osteoporosis. In routine we normally have a very good bone strength around 35 after, 35 gradually the bone strength decreases. So about 40-45 is the age when you start having osteoporosis, that is the time we should be very careful. Now what causes osteoporosis? Lack of exercise, not the right food, lack of calcium, vitamin D, you may be suffering for Rheumatoid Arthritis or any kind of arthritis you may be on steroids, obesity, obviously some comb or bit factors are always there for Osteoporosis. So how would we diagnose Osteoporosis, it is mainly the gold stand test is the DEXA scan that is a bone density, common areas which scanned is the hip, the spine, maybe the wrist and other areas are also spine, but spine is the main area where the Osteoporosis is diagnosed. There are some scores which you find on your report those are known as T-scores, T-scores are the value given by WHO from which we diagnose Osteoporosis, less than 2.5 or above is Osteoporosis. The severity of the Osteoporosis is bones treatment, the treatment maybe just adding supplements, maybe some exercise, eating good food, you may have calcium, vitamin D, if you have severe osteoporosis we might give you some other medication. Yes, alcohol, smoking these all things also adds to Osteoporosis. You need to decrease on those and probably stop them if anyone is having them. Osteoporosis is recently controlled very nicely on drugs and it can be controlled by exercise, you may build up your bone mask with all these supplements, and if you're still not happy with all these you may further go ahead test with Osteoporosis and other than this test Arthritis test can also be done to differentiate between Osteoporosis and Arthritis.

So, if you have any further queries you can contact me on my clinic at Rajdhani Enclave, Pitampura or you can contact through Lybrate.

Thank you very much.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Although there can be many causes for heel pain like spurs, fascial inflammation, infection, trauma etc but normally plantar fascitis is the most common cause especially if there is no history of any injury or any s/s of inflammation or infection like swelling, skin redness etc. This kind of pain is usually due to inflammation of your heel fascia. It is chronic pain which get aggravated especially when you walk more and is better with rest. Treatment modalities are aimed at relieving inflammation of the fascia, like ice packs, physical therapy, footwear modification and anti-inflammatory therapy. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation.

Your level of fear is extreme. You may check your prenatal history to examine for any contributing factors. Then meet with a counselor and work out this fear. You need to be in charge od your fear but in your case, it seems that fear is dominating you and is taking a heavy toll on your wellbeing. Some effective emotional therapy will do great justice to your health. These could be hysterical reactions to this undealt fear. You must immediately seek help from a counselor. Your fear is creating an obsession and that will gradually lead to anxiety and compulsive behaviors. Before it gets out of control and difficult to deal with seek help earlier, especially about this fear. If the fear is of recent origin, you could perhaps identify it and deal with it. But if it is from a long past, then much work has to be done to sort that out. Sometimes this kind of nervousness could be genetic too. In the meantime, you must do certain things to build your constitution physically, spiritually, emotionally, and mentally. Mental stability can be achieved by learning a few skills in handling emotions in an appropriate manner. Stress management skills, which have a lot to do with expressing emotions, will need to be a major part of your recovery program. Emotionally you need the help of a counselor and that will help you tremendously to move from anxiety to normal fear. Please persevere and cooperate through all the support you need and you will come through successfully. Develop your body’s health by physical fitness through exercise, good rest (sleep), and a proper diet. Anyway, what you need to focus on is to do vigorous exercise of the aerobic kind for the heart’s fitness; meditation for the brain’s fitness; sleep for a well rested mind and body; a sound spiritual well-being for good confidence and stability; and a diet with lots of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. Vigorous exercise, especially of the callisthenic kind, will make your heart, which is a muscle, grow larger; and then your heart will need to beat less often and you will respond to the anxiety with a calmer disposition. If your mind, constitution, and your emotions are in check and fit, you will never be disturbed again.

I am 30, Male having backbone pain and also joint pains, headache daily please advise.
Dear lybrate-user, Backpain, joint pains and headache at an age of 31, without being overweight, needs evaluation to rule out inflammatory arthritis, but before you go for any investigation, my recommendation would be for you would be to have a look at your life style, be active, exercise regularly, have healthy food and watch if your symptoms improve. Give yourself a time of at least 2 weeks and see if this works. Let us know if this helped you. Thanks.

Pain in ankle then move towards hip why
Unable to identify the pain and its cause.
Our suggestion would be to do hot water fermentation along with Cold (ice) therapy. You shall also keep a pillow under the knee while sleeping, next is you can keep ice in the painful area for about 5--10 minutes.
