While we cannot reverse the aging process, we can slow it down and control the visible signs of aging. Botox is one such treatment that can keep us looking younger. It's mainly used for the facial lines and wrinkles that age, stress, worry, and environmental factors may produce, even on a younger person’s face.
Botox is a drug made from the bacterium called Clostridium Botulinum. Botox is one of the most common cosmetic surgery procedure. This unique treatment is also used along with facial plastic surgery procedures such as a facelift or eyelid lift to maximize its cosmetic benefit. Botox treatments can lift the brow which will make your face look less tired, giving you a more youthful appearance.
It can also be used to treat misaligned eyes, severe sweating of the underarm region, cervical dystonia, migraines and uncontrollable blinking. It can also be used to treat an overactive bladder. In terms of cosmetic enhancements, Botox can reduce Dynamic fine lines and wrinkles, prevent new wrinkles from developing. Botox is commonly injected into the forehead, glabella or space between eyebrows, outer corners of the eyes, chin and neck.
Botox is used only in small concentrated dosage by experts, as it can have severe side effects if used incorrectly. The Botox procedure is as simple as getting an injection. It is administered by injecting a readymade Botox solution into the muscles. This paralyses the muscles by blocking nerve signals to the area and preventing the release of acetylcholine, which is responsible for the muscle movement. Usually the results of a Botox injection can be seen within 24-72 hours. In rare cases, it may take up to 5 days for the results to become visible.
Botox is performed as an outpatient procedure and is considered a safe cosmetic procedure. Pregnant women are advised not to undergo Botox treatment until they stop breast feeding after delivery. However, as with any other procedures, it does have a few risks associated with it. These include: Slight pain at the injection site.
Other possible rarest side effects are:
Temporary weakening of the eye and neck muscles
Rashes and inflammation
The effects of Botox may be influenced by other medications that you are taking and hence before undergoing the procedure, let your doctor know the medicine you are on. Avoid alcohol and strenuous activities for a few days after the injection.
The results of a Botox injection are not permanent and hence they may need to be repeated. Doctors advise maintaining an interval of at least 3 months between Botox injections. However, every time a Botox injection is repeated, the time taken for the lines and wrinkles to reappear reduces.

Breast enlargement is a cosmetic surgery where you get implants in the breasts to make them look larger than their actual size, to change the shape of the breasts, or perhaps to make you breasts look even. There are two types of breast enlargements:
- Silicone Implants: These implants are filled with silicone insides. The silicone gel might be soft or firm. Some of the silicone implants might also have a coating of polyurethane. Silicone implants aren't prone to getting wrinkled. If the gel is soft silicone, then it gives softness to the breasts which feel natural. The ones which are coated with polyurethane claim to reduce the risk of suffering from capsular contracture as well as implant rotating. There is always a risk of rupture in the capsule which might cause the silicone to flow out and spread in your breast, causing siliconomas. Usually the firm gel implant is used to avoid this condition.
- Saline Implants: The implants are filled with saline solution. So even if it ruptures, the saline is absorbed by the body. It might also pass out of your body. The only problem with saline implants is they deflate or rupture faster than silicone implants. They are also prone to getting wrinkled.
Where are they placed?
The implants are usually placed in a position between the breast and the chest muscles. They might also be placed behind these muscles. It looks more natural when placed in between the two muscles.
How Long do They Last?
These implants will not stay for life. They will require replacements after 10 years minimum. Most women get surgeries done in case their breasts have changed in shape around the implants.
How long will it take to recover from the surgery?
It usually takes a few weeks to recover fully from an implant surgery. Doctors might advise you to stay home for a week or two, and to avoid driving. They might also ask you to wear sports bras for a few months. If your stitches aren't dissolvable, then they have to be removed after a week. Probably you can return to your daily activities after a six week gap. In a few months time your breasts will start looking normal and they will feel natural.
You might feel a temporary pain accompanied with swelling as well as bruising. Your chest will also feel tight for a few weeks. Talk to your doctor before taking any further step so that he is able to explain the entire procedure to you.

Many men and women suffer from baldness these days and in order to conceal it, look for options available in the market. Though there are many temporary solutions, the most permanent & natural solution today is hair transplantation.
What is Hair Transplantation?
Hair transplantation is broadly achieved by removing hair grafts/follicles from the back of the head which are more resistant to hormonal changes and placing them in areas of scanty growth or baldness. There are two methods to remove the grafts – Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE).
In FUT method, a strip of scalp is cut out from the back of the head and is dissected into individual grafts.
FUE method of hair transplantation involves taking the individual follicular units/grafts from the back of the head one by one by cutting around it through a tiny specialised machine(punch) and removing them. The process is tedious and takes a few hours but is painless after a few numbing injections are given.
The rest of the procedure remains the same in both techniques. Micro-slits are created using very fine blades or needles in the balding areas after numbing them with local anaesthetic injections. Hair grafts are then inserted in the sites on the front of the head or wherever there is hair loss.
Both methods are done under local anaesthesia making them essentially painless.
Advantages of FUT method
Larger areas of baldness can be covered in fewer sittings.
The recovery time is much quicker with the patient often returning to work the next day itself.
The transection rate (the roots that get cut while separating them) is lesser providing superior results. (However, it depends on the skill of the surgeon and his/her staff.)
Advantages of FUE method
As this method of hair transplantation does not involve taking an entire strip of scalp from the back of the head like in strip surgery, there are no cuts or stitches.
There is no linear scar.
Both methods involve surgery hence a proper consultation with the surgeon is required who can explain the procedure and its advantages and disadvantages. It takes several hours to perform the surgery and implant hence it is important to block the day out completely and be mentally prepared for it. Most surgeons will want to shave the entire head before embarking on the procedure so make sure that you factor that in.
It is important to follow post-surgery instructions and take good care of the grafts. Swelling of the scalp & face is common for few days (usually stay for 3 days). You will be on antibiotics & pain medicine for couple of days and will be asked to use Minoxidil and Finasteride.
The grafts are wetted with saline repeatedly for a few days after the transplant. Hair is washed with a diluted shampoo the next day in a specific manner without disturbing the grafts. They will eventually fall out after two weeks and the new growth will start appearing at three months. In FUT method, post-op wound care of the scar is important and the sutures are removed after a week.
Who should opt for FUT method?
People who have larger areas of baldness.
People who would like to get the procedure done in a single sitting.
Who should go in for FUE method?
Suitable for people who have smaller areas of baldness.
People who want to wear shorter hair styles.
People with active lifestyles like sportsmen, etc.
Women with smaller areas of baldness.
People who prefer less invasive procedures and don’t want cuts, stitches on the scalp. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Cosmetic/Plastic Surgeon.
Fat injections also known as Autologous Fat Transfer for Breast Enhancement/ Augmentation is rapidly becoming popular. This is so because it wipes out the requirement for breast implants by using extra fat from your own body to enhance your breast size together with giving a beautiful shape.
Fat injection can lift-up as well re-shape the sagging breasts making them firmer by adding the volume lost because of lactation, ageing or weight loss. Common areas to harvest fat are tummy, thighs & buttocks. In past, there were worries that the fat may obscure detection of early breast cancer on breast X-rays (mammograms), but now it is considered absolutely safe.
While everybody may not be a perfect candidate for Fat Transfer for Breast Enhancement, it has great advantages. These are as follows:
1. It is an absolutely safe alternative as it uses material (Fat) from your own body, so no need to remove it in future even due to some possible rare problems encountered with Silicone Breast Implants (like capsule contracture, implant rupture or infection)
2. Breast Enhancement can be combined with Liposuction of other concerned body parts (Best out of Waste-Utilizes the removed fat for enhancement !)
Still, it has got some disadvantages as follows:
1. Compared with Silicone Breast Implants, this procedure is technically more demanding to create natural curves of breast out of small saggies- needs finest skills and artistic views on part of operating Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon.
2. Each breast has its own limitation to accommodate the volume of newly injected fat and enhancement beyond that may require a 2nd session.
3. Some portion of the injected fat undergo resorption after the procedure and the breasts will decrease in size after some time to require a 2nd touch-up session to get best results.
4. A thin-lean lady may not be a good candidate for this procedure not having extra fat to inject.
5. Newly enhanced breast with this technique may undergo minute changes in size with body- weight fluctuations. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Cosmetic/Plastic Surgeon.
Rhinoplasty, more commonly known as Nose-Job, is a cosmetic procedure designed to change the shape and size of the nose.
A Rhinoplasty can effectively change the size and shape of the nose to complement the facial balance. It also helps improve nasal symmetry efficiently enhancing your facial features.
How is the surgery performed?
We prefer General Anaesthesia for the surgery to make patient pain free and most comfortable. It’s a Day-care procedure or may need overnight stay.
The operation involves an incision which is made for easy access to the cartilage and bones of the nose. These incisions are generally placed inside the nose, so that they do not appear as scar marks after the surgery is done. Moulding, removal or replacement of the bone or cartilage depends on the demands of the restructuring of the nose. Once the reshaping of the nose is done, the nose tissue is put back into place and a splint is temporarily placed to support the new structure of the nose. The splint is removed at 5-7 days.
Precautions to take after a nose surgery
After a nose surgery, the area around your nose will stay swollen and bruised for around 10-15 days. Thus you have to ensure that-
You get adequate period of rest.
Use cold compresses over the swollen face, this will reduce the swelling and ease the pain.
Do not indulge in relatively vigorous physical activity for 15 days.
Take you medicines regularly.
Risks of nose surgery
Every surgery or medical procedure involves certain risks, and so does Rhinoplasty. Along with some puffiness and bruising around the eye and nose region, you may also experience-
Some amount of bleeding
Injury to the septum area
Irritation of the skin and skin problems
Nasal blockage due to swelling in the inner nasal area
Complications resulting from anaesthesia
Although there are certain risks to Rhinoplasty, the surgery is considerably safe if done by a qualified expert plastic surgeon and the results are quite permanent.
Hair density effectively means the number of follicular units present in one square centimeter. For an average male, the hair density stands at 90-110 follicular units for each square centimeter. When baldness sets in, the density of the follicle becomes thin. The density can then be increased through hair transplantation. Having said this, there are several implications of a successful hair transplant. This article will try to explore the same.
Natural appearance of the hair:
Often there are apprehensions among people as to how the transplanted hair will look like. To answer this, transplanted hair looks very natural, has a thick appearance and are long. High-density transplant is by far the most sort after technique to get a naturally looking hair.
There are a few follicular units that the scalp possesses, which are permanent in nature. Doctors use these follicles for hair transplant in a person. For an average transplant, the density ranges from 45-60 follicular units in every square centimeter. At this rate, a person suffering from grade 4 baldness, requires around 2500 follicles to cover the mid-scalp region. However, for a thick transplant, it is necessary to have around 5000 follicular unit, meaning 100-110 follicular units in every square centimeter. Doctors have a to gauge whether there are 5000 follicular units available in a person. An over-inclusion of follicular units can permanently delete them, resulting in permanent baldness with no scope of future transplant. It is, therefore, necessary to correctly evaluate the number of permanent follicles available and the number of total follicular units to be transplanted.
Once a follicle gets implanted in the skin, it results in a lack of blood supply for the new hair. This is a critical condition since the lack of blood supply can destroy the follicular unit for good. Doctors, take a critical call as to how many punctures need to be made for a successful transplant. Patients suffering from diabetes or atherosclerosis are advised to consult the doctor before going ahead with a hair transplant. Since patients suffering from these diseases already have less blood supply in the scalp region, the effectiveness of a transplant comes under question.
Who is eligible for a high-density transplant?
A high-density transplant is only possible for those persons who have a greater number of permanent follicle units. It becomes effective for those patients whose area of baldness is relatively less as compared to others.
The cost of a surgery depends on the number of follicular units transplanted. Since high-density transplant increases the cost slightly but the results are awesome.
One of the prominent facial features, the nose, in addition to being the pathway for air into the lungs, also plays a significant cosmetic role. A finely shaped, aquiline nose that is proportionate to the size of the face and is something most people desire, and some people would be ready to go undergo surgeries to get that desired shape and size.
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure to correct the size, shape, and proportion of the face. While mostly done as a cosmetic procedure, it could be done as a therapeutic procedure too, where there are structural abnormalities causing congestion and breathing issues. Some of the common indications for this procedure include:
Nasal tip that is enlarged, bulbous, hooked, drooping or upturned
Size of nose out of proportion for the size of the face
Improper position of the nostrils (size or position)
Visible depressions or bumps on the nasal bridge
Asymmetry between the right and left nostrils
Nasal septal/ bony deviation that is visible externally
Depending on the desired outcome, some of the bones or cartilage in the nose may be removed or added. At the time of consultation, discuss your desired changes completely. Plastic Surgeon also can suggest you desired changes possible on your nose to get better one.
Before the procedure: Before going ahead with the procedure, get your expectations right. Nose has a prominent effect on a person’s appearance, and Post-Rhinoplasty, there would be definite change in the way you look, and it is best you prepare for this mentally before going for the surgery.
During the procedure: General Anaesthesia is preferred to make you comfortable and pain-free during Rhinoplasty.
Immediately after the procedure: In sequence, after Rhinoplasty, prepare for the following:
Considerable swelling of the tissue around the nose and eyes, giving a puffy face
A splint that needs to be worn at least for a week to keep the cartilages and bones in their new position
Cold compresses can be used to control the pain and swelling around the eyes and the nose
Complete the course of antibiotics and painkillers as advised by the doctor
Keep the head of the bed elevated for the first one
Stay away from regular exercise for about a week to 10 days
Potential complications include:
Unhappy with the results
While Rhinoplasty definitely can improve the appearance of nose and face at large and improve self-image in most people, it is best to set realistic expectations with the cosmetic surgeon by a thorough understanding of what you expect and what they can provide. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Cosmetic/Plastic Surgeon.
There are many changes that take place in our face and body as we start ageing. While the face starts to show the signs of ageing earliest-in the form of wrinkles and fine lines as well as a sagging chin and neck, the effect of ageing on the body might be slightly late. The skin may sag or you may end up putting on weight in various parts of the body like upper arms, which may look unsightly and bring down your level of confidence as well. Signs of ageing can often make you shy away from living your life to the fullest.
For the sagging upper arms, one can always get a procedure called an Arm lift. This is also called a Brachioplasty. This is a cosmetic procedure that can be conducted to tighten the skin of the arms from the elbow upwards. Let’s see how this procedure works.
What does it do?
- Excess fat tends to accumulate in both arms togather with weight gain. Person face laxity in this area after massive weight loss or with body ageing.
- Arm Lift is a surgical procedure to tighten the skin in the arms through the removal of excess fat deposits as well as skin.
Who can opt for this surgery?
Any person who is medically fit having arm disfigurement can opt for this procedure. Patients who have signs of ageing or excessive weight gain are the best candidates for this kind of surgery. Also, it may be used by the patients who are suffering from sagging skin after losing a great deal of weight which may lead to an appearance of bat’s wings on the sides.
How is this procedure conducted?
This surgical procedure is conducted by a Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon. It’s a day-care procedure. The doctor begins by marking the various areas of concern having excess fat and flabby skin. Thereafter, the doctor proceeds to remove the excess skin so that the arms are tightened getting more youthful look. This is done under anaesthesia to make patient pain-free. The skin that is removed is usually shaped like an ellipse. In many cases, there may be a need to conduct a liposuction if the patient has excess fat as well. Once the excess skin has been removed, skin edges are approximated with meticulous sutures with various Plastic Surgery techniques.
Recovery usually takes 5-7 days. Person can resume routine activities from very next day. Sometimes you might be advised a pressure garment for better outcome. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a cosmetic physician
As we age, we begin to go through a variety of changes when it comes to our face and body. The face is one of the first and foremost areas where these changes begin to show up. From fine lines and wrinkles to sagging skin and even bags under the eyes, there are a number of things that show up as signs of ageing. There are many ways of combating such signs, especially tired eyes that have bags under them.
Fat Grafting and Blepharoplasty are some of the ways that are usually long term, immediate and effective as compared to many cosmetics and creams. Let us find out more about botox for under eye bags.
Bags under the eyes may be caused due to a variety of reasons including age, genetics, allergies and lack of sleep coupled with stress. Age is one of the most common causes of under eye bags. As we age, our skin loses its elasticity due to the loss or reduction of collagen production. This is a substance that our skin produces in order to give a supple and tight appearance. When the production of this element diminishes, it leads to the appearance of fine lines and bags under the eyes. Similarly, lack of sleep, stress and a work routine that demands constantly staring at a computer screen, can all lead to dark circles and bags under the eyes. This makes us look tired and less than appealing.
Fat Grafting For Under Eye Hollows-
Fat transfer has quickly become one of the most sought after non-invasive treatments available for facial rejuvenation and the treatment of dark circles and hollows under the eyes. Fat is plentiful, easy to harvest, and because it’s your own tissue, there is no need to worry about having a reaction or excessive swelling.
Fat grafting (‘fat transfer’) offers an innovative solution for treating eyelid hollowness that may have always been present or that was caused by fat loss from prior cosmetic eye surgery, aging, or significant weight loss.
The presence of under-eye shadows is a frequent complaint that is commonly seen with aging. This happens from a combination of fat loss around the eye and a sagging of the upper cheek. Sometimes, it is an inherited trait that we see in relatively young patients. By filling in the shadow within the tear trough (under the eyes), fat grafting can make an extraordinary difference in rejuvenating the look around the eye.
Blepharoplasty For Under Eye Hollows-
Droopy eyelids are a major reason why some people consider eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) to remove and tighten excess eyelid skin for a more alert, youthful appearance. Sometimes blepharoplasty also can improve your vision by providing a less obstructed field of view, once droopy eyelids are improved. Blepharoplasty can remove excess skin, muscle and sometimes fat from the upper or lower eyelids. In some cases, you might need only skin removed but not muscle — or you might need the procedure done on both upper and lower eyelids. Many people express satisfaction with the results of blepharoplasty, such as a more rested and youthful appearance and more self-confidence. For some people, results of surgery may last a lifetime. For others, droopy eyelids may recur.
Side Effects: When you take a consultation from the doctor before the treatment, do not forget to talk about possible side effects and management of any pain that you may experience after the procedure. Scars from the surgical cuts may take six months or longer to fade.
Gynecomastia is a condition characterized by enlargement of the breast tissue in men. It occurs when there is an imbalance of the testosterone (male sex hormone) and estrogen (female sex hormone) in the body. It may a cause of embarrassment in men.
The primary cause for this condition is an increase in the level of estrogen in comparison with testosterone in the male body. Testosterone controls male characteristics such as body hair and muscle mass. Estrogen is responsible for controlling female characteristics such as breast enlargement.
Men usually produce small quantities of estrogen in their body to maintain certain sexual functions. Complications occur when estrogen levels in the male body increase too much in proportion to testosterone. The condition can be classified as follows:
- Gynecomastia in infants: Half of the infants are usually born with large breasts due to their mother's estrogen. The effect tends to wear off in a few weeks.
- Gynecomastia during puberty: Gynecomastia occurs during puberty due to changes in hormones. The condition goes away without any treatment in six months to 1 year.
- Gynecomastia in men: This condition may peak in men during the age of 50-80. Statistics show that at least 1 out of 4 men in this age group has this condition.
Some other causes for this condition in middle-aged men are as follows:
If the cause of the condition is medications, then discontinuing the medicines should stop the effects. It can also be treated by taking medicines to reduce estrogen levels in the body.
If the Puberty Onset Gynecomastiadoesn't doesn't regress spontaneously within 2-3 years of onset, it can best be corrected with help of Liposuction Surgerythrough through a very small key hole incisionin in the chest area skin. It gives very decent and natural looking result.
Post-surgery, patientshould should stick to a proper and healthy lifestyle to retain the new shape of the chest area. We advise application of a customised Pressure Garment for your comfort and better outcome.
