I have sugar in borderline how to prevent without tablets
My gums are very weak what I should do.
If blood sugar levels fasting is between 108 to 125 mg and pp 141 to 199 mg /100 ml, is considered as pre diabetes, or impaired glucose tolerance (igt). At this level diabetes can be prevented by restricted diet, exercise and maintaining normal weight. For gums to become healthy, regular massaging of gums and taking vitamin supplements and maintaining oral hygiene is very important.

Mr Arif, If she wants to become pregnant then TSH levels should be closer to 2 mill units/ ml. That is possible only taking thyroxine tablets is a prescribed dose and checking TSH levels periodically to see if there needs to be any increase in thyroxine dosage.

My friend have diabetes problem so any medicine he should take?

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
Pediatrician,
My friend have diabetes problem so any medicine he should take?
Diabetes affects all organs in the body ? Eyes, kidneys, nerves, reproductive system all are affected, In fact, from toe to hair. For diabetic control, patient should be under proper guidance for regular follow up and advice. It is not as easy task to control blood sugar in the desired normal range. Whatever we eat is metabolised to sugar in the body to provide energy for our daily activities. For the absolute control, one has to monitor his / her blood sugar at regular intervals (Self-Monitoring of Blood glucose ? SMBG). Though difficult, this can be done by a glucometer and keep a record. Get an idea of Fasting sugar (FBS) and 2 hours after food (PPBS), & HbA1C (inform me) and check before dinner and after every major food. The basic idea is to reduce the food intake to 1/3 of what you take now. The dictum of sugar control is diet, exercise, diet + medicine and at later stage medicine+ Insulin will be needed. There are different diet plans of varying calories for each person depending on his activity & lifestyle.

Nutrition is very important in managing diabetes. Not only what you eat, but how much you eat and when you eat influences your blood sugar. Meals should be at regular times with planned snacks. They should be low fat, high fiber foods with a limited amount of simple carbohydrates. Homoeopathc treatment is effective for controlling sugar levels.

Flat foot at times causes pain. But we must rule out other causes as well rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Physiotherapy usually helps any way take paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days caldikind plus (mankind) 1 tab odx10days you will need other supportive medicines also. It may have to be further investigated do ask for detailed treatment plan. Do not ignore. It could be beginning of a serious problem. You must have x rays of your feet done. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. Heat in feet could be due to some neuropathy.

Hello, If hypothyroidism is in control with TSH level between 3 to 4 mU/L, then most of the symptoms will be in check. Since you have not mentioned anything about the thyroid hormone levels or thyroxine dosage, it is difficult to comment. As regards your son taking very long to finish food, it must be his habit, you will have to encourage him to eat faster. Thanks.

Mr. Lybrate-user, looking at your weight and height the bmi is 32.19 kgs /m2, showing grade 1 obesity (normal <23 kgs/m2). For better control of blood glucose it is necessary to maintain normal weight. Your ideal body weight (ibw) should be62 kgs. Therefore to control blood glucose level apart from taking insulin and other drugs it essential to reduce weight. That will also help in controlling lipid levels. Any exercise is as good as other. It is better to start with brisk walking for at least 1 hour a day. Later you can upgrade to jogging. You should also do strength building exercise on 2 days a week in addition to aerobic activity. Plus certain yogasanas and pranayam will also be beneficial. Blood sugar control will need insulin, oral drugs plus exercise, weight reduction and diet control. All these factors together will help. Thanks.

Dosage of the thyroid is always adjusted by seeing the reports, so get your thyroid testing done and check out whats the result, that will tell you whether the dosage is correct or not, do not self medicate yourself.

Hypothyroid leads to a slight increase in Triglycerides, your levels are not high enough to start any medications yet. you have not mentioned your LDL levels. so make sure your TSH is within normal range. Secondly diet, exercise and lifestyle patters have a major correlation with Cholesterol levels, It is important that you modify your diet to a low fat, low sugar diet (take a detailed diet consult for that) and begin with exercise, start gradually increase to 45 mins per dayof brisk walking or yoga, quit alcohol if u take. these are standard recommendations asper American and European guidelines accepted by India cardiac society also, so kindly do not pay heed to anyone who suggests to you that diet has no role to play in cholesterol management.

Eat balanced diet , eat banana, take amino acid rich diets, L- glutamine like supplements, whole grain, oats, green veg., low cholesterol foods, plenty of water in day time, Do test Kidney Function Test every 6 months to monitor levels of uric acid. I am 54 years and diabetic since last 3 months. I take 2 glycomet 250mg, one in the morning and one in the night. I tested my blood sugar afew days ago and fasting is 117 and pp is 127. Glycosylated sugar reading is 6.8 and mean blood glucose is165mg/dl. I feel that this average blood glucose is very high under medication. I walk twice a day for 40 minutes each time. Please could you advice me if dosage needs to be increased?

Your blood sugar levels seems to be quite ok. If you tweak your diet a bit more, you can bring down your hba1c to less than 6.5% which is perfect. Keep up the good work!
